Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

I just wonder how a 3ds and vita version would look. There is a huge gap between a 3DS and an Xbox One and this time the game is only for the current gen console. Anyway they will probably outsource these ports to other studios like for MM9 so the ball will be in that studio's court.

Fucking stop this.

Vita owners buy lots of games for their Vitas. They Kickstart projects just for Vita tiers. The small install base spends lots of money on their systems.

The same is true for Wii U.
Why?

It's true; the platform is dead at retail. The money Sony gets from Vita owners buying games is like pocket change compared to what they're getting off PS4 alone. Yeah, it's nice to have it around, but they won't be in trouble if the Vita money stops coming in, not by a long shot.

The system is just a bit of a disaster compared to what it could have been, on the larger picture. But hey, maybe it's the Saturn or Dreamcast of its time and I don't know any better. I love those systems FWIW, but they were commercial disasters. Same with the Vita. Same as the Wii U.

And the Vita has too many JRPGs to give it sway with me, personally.

Thought this might be appreciated here.

Alright seriously -- so if these games are so unpopular, as developers claim, then why in the world do they appear to be this...popular? I really don't understand this, and it seems like it is true of many different 'unpopular' game genres, many of which have seen similar success on kickstarter (Pillars of Eternity?). It's just strange. I guess the reason is that developers don't see a 'modest profit', which must be the type generated by medium-popularity games like this, as good enough these days.

Not counting the money portion, right now it's just shy of 13,000 backers. Not that I agree with the thinking, but it could be that publishers don't see those types of numbers (which would amount to regular sale prices w/o the draw of bonuses for backing at higher levels on KS if it was published/funded traditionally) of the core audience on first day/week as worthy. Of course the actual sale numbers would be higher than 13,000 by the end of 1st day worldwide.

You're the 100000000x person to reiterate this on GAF, we get it. The Vita has a tight knit community that supports the small amount of developer support the Vita recieves. Does it really bother that much if a developer puts a game on a system that isn't a success in the main stream market? And don't derail the damn thread bro.

Oh and the 3DS has a fuck ton of JRPG'S....

That's the demographic supporting it, so that's what they get. No harm in that. It thrives on a niche fanbase, and they will eat this game up.

Anyway, the artist is no Kojima, but I like the style. It's more Ecclesia than Portrait.

I really don't want them bothering with Vita and what not.

It will only dilute development.

It doesn't dilute your development when you suddenly have more than twice your planned budget.

And this is just the Kickstarter money. Who knows what the publisher is providing.

Also the average donation is still roughly $75. That's pretty impressive.

Dreamcast actually beat Wii U and Vita to 10 million units (launch aligned) if I'm not mistaken, and the industry back then was a fraction of the size it is today.

I really like when Vita is in the stretch goals.

But I'll make a exception for this game and say that they shouldn't try to get it (unless it's a really stupid high stretch goal, like $3m+). They should focus on these 3 versions to make the game look the best they can make.

Also, I expect TONS of secrets. Really, tons and tons of secrets. It must be like SOTN in this regard (using the rings to access the inverted castle, the gears puzzle and many of the other things there).

And last, but not least: Special input commands and magic (hell, they can even copy the glyphs). Magnes gave us some really cool exploration potential in Order of Ecclesia.

The planned budget was not $500k, it was 5 million dollars.

The Kickstarter goals represent roughly 90% of the game's initial funding.

Right. But what I'm saying is you suddenly have extra resources AND might receive more money from your publisher who has more faith in the project.

Just conjecture.

I can't help but back a new Castlevania game with this star cast and limited edition physical copy. You got my 60 bucks IGA. I like everything I see, except for the character designs.
