Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

...I honestly got emotional looking at this picture. Geeze louise, I've missed Castlevania...

I don't think they thought through the $3000 reward very well. Who would want their beloved pet to be an enemy they have to kill?

The Polygon article comments about how nice a person he actually is. Really this KS success couldn't happen to a guy that deserves it more.

After reading that and seeing in two instances recently where he was quick to deflect all of the fame pointed to him as being the sole guy that made his games great, I agree. He stands out as a very kind and considerate person who simply wants to make games.

He's really earned much more of my respect lately. I have to wonder how different things would be for what people typically think of his games if he wasn't mandated to release them annually and given more time to grow his projects.

I'm actually conflicted, I want the game but $28 is pretty high for a code compared to a $15 average. I suppose $5 wouldn't hurt, but sucks that I'd need to pay full price later on.

In any case, glad to see these awesome KS projects finding their audiences.

Eh, igavanias have always retailed for 30-ish on GBA/DS, so it's not any different than that... and these will have HD 3D art assets w/ shaders to help make them look 2Dish. So if you compare this to past igavanias, it's par for the course but with higher rez assets.

it's sad that we're at the point where people expect to be able to "buy" a game on kickstarter for $15 regardless of anything else.

I suppose that's one way to see it. I'll have to ponder a bit on it.

I pay $60 for some games (even on Steam, gasp) so you can toss that out the window.

IGA is one Zen dude. Was he always this humble and kind? I never noticed this side of him until he escaped Castle Konami.

I remember a lot of people used to accusing him of refusing to talk about SOTN in interviews, or for stealing credit for things he didn't work on, or for being bitter about LOS or whatever. As it turns out, it was pretty much bullshit. Who knew?

The same is said of Yoshio Sakamoto or Eiji Aonuma or any other franchise spokesperson and it gets to be really tedious after a while.

Man, what possessed them put to those horrible outlines on those sprites. Never liked that.

Probably to make the character stand out on a small handheld screen. Note that it's most prominent on Soma and Shanoa.

The real question is what's up with the glowing shadow trail that follows Alucard as he struts around the castle?

When was the last time Sony straight-up advertised a Kickstarter on the day it was introduced?
Yoshida backs a lot of Kickstarters and throws out tweets for them. Cool dude.

Maybe if they can get a $10m budget...

Eh, I doubt it would take more than a year for a duo of professional spriters to do a conversion, considering that they'd have clear references for everything. They'd never go through with that though.

It's great to hear about this game. I truly enjoyed many of Igarashi's Castlevania games of the past. Count me in as someone who's very excited to see how this new game will turn out.

You know that's just one part... they still need to program the sprites, etc.

It would be another game, entirely.

Me too, wanted a 2D game. We didn't get it, though, so I'll try to fight for a good 2.5D game, at least (as in the graphics area).

He sure is! It's been real neat seeing the more personal side of IGAsan, creator of my favorite teenage-year games. Seriously, they were formative in helping me discover my gaming tastes.

Overall, what an absolute blast it's been being a part of this whole reveal. I'm beyond hyped, and $300 in my wallet has his name written on it.

I've been traveling most of the day. Anyone know where I can check out a replay of the stream today?

Ha yeah, I was just about to make an edit regarding the likely coding issues, but got beat to it :)
