Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

From all the interviews and livecasts IGA seems like a supernice and passionate guy.
Yeah, seeing him play indie games and talk about programming tricks in SotN makes it hard to conceive of him purely as the money-grubbing mastermind producer.

I think he genuinely wants to make a good game in his namesake genre, and is capable of doing so.

From all the interviews and livecasts IGA seems like a supernice and passionate guy. The kickstarter is not run by him though and I'm sure Judd and co had a heavy hand in the planning of tge KS. Succes for this means more future endeavors for the partners. I'm sure banking hard on konamihate is part of the gameplan. I honestly believe all IGA wants to do is make his dream game.

he does seem like a swell guy! I just hope he didn't partner with Businessman Inafune

not doubting that but I just hope he doesn't end up in a partnership where the business side of things dictate what he can or cannot do... It's like getting out of a bad environment only to end up in a different place with the exact same nonsense.

I'm liking that Konami is trash GIF with him though lol

Perhaps bloody tiers?

?? what do you mean? I would want a Digital Deluxe one for sure.

Yeah, I think we can say without a doubt that IGA wanted to make a new Castlevania game ever since he got taken away from the series. The success of MN9 was just what has shown to him that finding success on Kickstarter is actually possible. In an interview he stated that the Japanese games industry is rather isolated from the rest of the world and Kickstarter didn't grab the attention of Japanese developers until Inafune started his campaign. That explains why he is taking MN9's campaign as an inspiration.

If he had no passion for this project, then I very much doubt that he would have left Konami in the first place. It was definitely a safer environment for someone in his position and he wouldn't have had to worry about getting funding in the first place. After all, it took him half a year to get where he is now.

Do we know when they will update the stretch goals?
The game isn't going to come out for another 2 years. I'm fully expecting them to stretch everything out (in general).

To answer more specifically, they'll probably wait for the initial rush to finish and then determine how to mix up the stretch goals and possibly add new tiers.

Jeebus they are estimating this for Spring 2017

Way too early for me to get excited about this.

If there is one thing I dont enjoy about these kickstarters is how its basically the ground floor of development lol

A cold reminder of just how long it takes to make these games. I am so happy that all these devs are getting to make their dream projects though.

Somehow missed this news yesterday. Could be awesome, but the developers and planned 2.5D nature of the game means I'm going to need some alpha footage before I do anything. It's not like Yukka Laylee where it was clear from their videos that they'll be able to deliver what was promised. Never forget MN9. Never forget.

Nice, funded in a day.
Tempted to fund the digital reward because $28 is a nice price if it is a physical $60 release.
Want to see footage though.

First, I backed this game almost as soon as I got home and am wholeheartedly in support of it and Igarashi.

Then I saw this in one of the tier:

Includes exclusive backer-the mighty swordwhip and super-powerful hidden boss.

Get out of my indie game. Seriously get out.

This is for in intent and purpose a pre-order bonus, and as a person who has backed the game and will definitely be getting this content, I urge Igarashi and his team to not to make this or any other gameplay content exclusive to backers.

Give backers cosmetic bling, I'd love to have something shiny to show that I am a backer but don't make gameplay content exclusive to backers! Seriously just don't.

Make all the game available to everyone that buy it.

Yeah, I hate that shit too :/

This is a very dangerous precedent on an already bad platform.

I think the difference between a pre-order bonus and a backer bonus is that the game might not actually exist without the backers. That said, I also think that one of the earliest stretch goals should have been to add "backer-only items" to every copy of the game. It sours me that not everyone will get a boss and swordwhip.

This kickstarter is plowing through its stretch goals so I hope they get more up.

Seems like a good bet that a lot of the social targets should have passed their second milestone by now, that is, assuming they had values for future milestones planned out.
They forgot to update them last night while they updated the stretchgoals.
They also seem to have ignored it and opened the 2 castle level goals ahead of schedule.
Doesn't seem they were preparing for this response. Was asleep during the stream last night but did they mention the fact all the goals were gone on it? lol

Like, I'm happy they had a conservative estimate. As fans, we knew 500K was definitely doable and 850K for Hayter was a great endgame to work towards. But when funding came so quickly and so passionately, they really should have restructured the Kickstarter. The backer achievements were not paced or designed to be unlocked in a day, the stretch goals are unclear and people keep donating without any incentive to do so.

Bring out stretch goals for another million dollars.

I am also not a fan of backer only rewards. Just let them know through the questions and comments that you don't like it. I have seen over Kickstarter projects change stuff like that. I have already told them about me not being a fan of that.

They were nearing $1m as the stream ended last night. They added the last two goals around that time, but there was a guy from the KS team in charge of updates that mentioned they had been going maybe 30 hrs with no sleep? They're gonna have their work cut out for them this morning.

Bloody Tears is one of the main Castlevania themes from the soundtrack. Originally from Castlevania II but has been on many, many titles since. You'll know it as soon as you hear it.

Good pun :D
Bloody Tears is so good. Hope we can get an iconic song for Bloodstained like that

Just woke up and all stretch goals have been met. Fangamer needs to step it up asap and update the goals if they don't want to lose momentum.

I have posted a comment on this already, unfortunately its being drowned out by people arguing over a Wii U / Vita port and demands for more stretch goals in general.

Just about every post right now is people talking about additional stretch goals and what they should be (including the aforementioned Wii U / Vita port).

I'm tempted to demand a talking purple dildo whip that quotes Shakespeare in Hayter's 'Old Snake' voice just to see if people would pay attention.

Not to be a dick but do you understand the point of Kickstarter?

Sure the comments are not ideal. Also use the direct question option and Twitter is also an option.

I guess that explains the sloppiness but I still think they might as well re-work the whole thing at this point.

They are based in AZ so it's 06:52 there. I guess you will see the update later tonight.

At the risk of getting hanged in here....

Can anyone tell me what, if anything they're doing with this game to set it appart from the other igavania games? Because there's already like 12 of those out there in the same format repeated ad nausem, and if this is just that but "now I get to be a part of it!!!", then I can't see myself really buying into this at all.

I mean I played these games to death back when Konami was churning them out all the time, but it's not like with games like pillars of eternity or yooka laylee where I'm buying into something I haven't gotten in any real capacity because it seems like every other month there's an indie metroidvania coming out to scratch that itch.

Like a big fine woman, I backed that thing up.

Put down 60 for a physical copy on a system I don't even own yet.

If this gives even half the enjoyment I had playing through SOTN over the years, it'll be worth it.

It's made by the guy who actually made/designed/worked on real Castlevania games

I hope they don't add very many more stretch goals, some projects that kept making money just kept adding stretch goals, and now have this monstrosity of a game that will be worse quality, with features a lot of gamers didn't want, that changes the game to be different from what they originally promised. Just throwing money in doesn't make a new feature not affect the rest of development. They should have a set number of stretch goals and not add any more, no matter how much money they get over their goal, unless there really is some dream feature they wanted to add but didn't think was possible.

Well,
- it's by Iga, who hasn't made a game in the genre for a really long time
- it's on PC
- it will have a decent (> indie) budget
- coop!

I like indie 'vanias well enough, but I still consider most of Iga's games to be a step above them. And now he'll get to work on high-end platform with a great engine. What's not to like?

I think it's a fair question. What sets it apart is it isn't Castlevania and won't use reused art for the first time ever. Othet than that I'm not sure.

this is the main course

Also you can add "does not have to confirm to Konami's will to make a Castlevania game that is a rip-off of God of War".

Brand néw assets, new plot and characters, coop

Also there hasn't been an Igavania in 7 years and none of those indie metroidvanias have Michiru Yamane

I would love for this to come out on the Wii U. Can anyone explain that bit they mention about Nintendo in the FAQ section? I really don't understand what they're saying.
