The Witcher 3 | Review Thread

Hyped, but the few comments about combat being a little boring are slightly worrying. I felt it looked a little uninspired in the videos I've seen and thought I kept seeing one 'finishing move' too often, the one where he chops the dudes head off. I figured it was just down to the player being early in the game and not having done much with the skill tree yet.

Also wondering if there are other weapons usable like axes and spears, or is it just the swords and the crossbow?

No idea if the combat is going to be good, but the reason you keep seeing a finishing move is because whenever you deal a killing blow on the last enemy in a group, it will always be a "finishing move" that cuts off a head or a limb or something. It's flair, not an input.

Stop reading reviews before you experience games/movies/albums yourself and you'll enjoy things more. I've been doing that consequently for a year now and it's working.
Or for some things that you're not extremely hyped anyway, just read them but still keep your expectations in check and try not to let other opinions influence your perception beforehand. I did that with Lightning's Returns and I had a blast going in with zero expectations.

You got a point man, i remember enjoying games way more as a kid where i just looked at the boxart of a game.

Same with movies, i found myself enjoying lower rated movies way more than those "best movie ever" stuff.

I can't believe they did it. In a world where nearly every game that has come out in the last year has been completely disappointing, they achieved greatness. All hail CD Projekt Red.

I had to stop listening to their podcast because the dude doesn't like ANYTHING?
"eh" "meh" "ahhh eh"

Jeff's a cool guy but dude gave CoD:AW his GotY last year... yeah

As much as he insists that he doesn't hate games and isn't jaded.... more often than not, that's still the vibe I get from him.

Did every reviewer just use the PS4 version? I don't see any PC reviews on Metacritic....

Or is that just metacritic being metacritic?

It does seem like the PS4 version was the only one they could distribute easily enough and have predictable performance at the time. Kinda sucks for other platform holders, but I don't expect much variance as platforms are rarely called out in reviews anyway. Personally, i'm more interested in an depth performance analysis post launch

The fact that Jeff Gerstmann still pisses people off people in this community for being honest is hilarious and pitiful. Members decrying games journalism and crying about videogame media in general, someone is honest with themselves not liking the most hyped AAA product of the month, so that means he doesn't like videogames.

There will be people that don't like this game, crazy I know.

Review threads on here are largely an echo chamber. I laugh at people who say shit like he's in the wrong industry, needs a break or ask if he even likes games. Anyone who has watched or listened to any GB stuff should know he loves games. Gotta label him a contrarian though for not going with the general opinion of most hyped game #237221.

Still not sure whether to go PC or PS4 for this not sure how my 280X and i5 will handle it. Still gotta finish 2 in the meantime anyway.

Lol at all the Gerstmann hate. The guy simply said it didn't grab him. The game is reviewing spectacularly, why do people hang on the one thing that isn't super positive? Opinions and stuff.

Thats what gets me. I can understand not liking W3 but saying COD AW is GOTY?

Thats an opinion I can ignore for any gaming recommendations...

I believe it's been stated that you can turn off the cinematic kills, which is something I imagine myself doing after a while. It should be noted that some reviews really liked the combat, some found it too easy while some found it too hard.

Ah okay. I think they look pretty cool personally, as long as there on auto pilot like AC3 I'll use them. Just hoping for some variety.

if you want to get into the lore and world, it's recommended. they're dirt cheap now anyway so why avoid them?

Personally I have to avoid them for the time being as I lack the hardware to play them. I think I'll pass on TW3 until I can do things "right", though, myself.

Dude, he literally just said that the game didn't "grab" him. Like, it's probably not his kind of game. You're letting your blind rage cloud your reading comprehension here mate.

Assuming you're talking about Gerstmann here, like everyone else is doing.

(But given how tired the mods are of this already, this is my first and last post on the subject.)

I didn't even say anything about Gerstmann. Blind Rage? Where are you getting this from? Are you talking about some one else?

Okay, that makes sense

Why not? You asserted that the PS4 was the version CD PRoject Red probably thought was best... we all know that's not the case at all. So whatever reason there was for sending only PS4 code out early, probably has nothing to do with the version they think is best. Further eroding your assertion is the fact that apparently everyone is having framerate issues with the PS4 version.

Odds are that the dev team on PS4 simply happenned to finish the latest optimization pass before the other platforms. Maybe because PC has extra features that need to be optimized (like hairworks), and the Xbone has a different memory structure.

But who knows for sure. All we know is that your assertion is likely incorrect.

Read my comment again. I specifically said between PS4 and XB1. Where does PC come into that conversation?

Didn't they say there will be no (or barely any) fetch quests because they hate fetch quests? Reviews are saying it has many fetch quests...

Better than your PS4, is the short answer. How much better, we don't know yet. Still, on PC you have options. On consoles you don't. That would matter to me, might not matter to you though.

Great, thanks.

I own both of them but haven't touched them haha. It's more a question of time. Witcher 3 looks great so if I'm not missing much I'd rather dive into that straight.

you'll be missing a lot of cool backstory and character moments from the first two games. but that's up to you.
