The Witcher 3 | Review Thread

Jeff has always been more interested in fun mechanics than anything else. So this shouldn't be too surprising.

Yes, that's why I take notice of his reviews. But here fun mechanics are not really what WRPG are all about.

Where did I say he wasn't? I just don't see why that reply was needed to my comment.

Why not? You asserted that the PS4 was the version CD PRoject Red probably thought was best... we all know that's not the case at all. So whatever reason there was for sending only PS4 code out early, probably has nothing to do with the version they think is best. Further eroding your assertion is the fact that apparently everyone is having framerate issues with the PS4 version.

Odds are that the dev team on PS4 simply happenned to finish the latest optimization pass before the other platforms. Maybe because PC has extra features that need to be optimized (like hairworks), and the Xbone has a different memory structure.

But who knows for sure. All we know is that your assertion is likely incorrect.

The fact that Jeff Gerstmann still pisses people off people in this community for being honest is hilarious and pitiful. Members decrying games journalism and crying about videogame media in general, someone is honest with themselves not liking the most hyped AAA product of the month, so that means he doesn't like videogames.

There will be people that don't like this game, crazy I know.

You would love internet way more if you wouldn't take everything so literal. Calm down and take a deep breath.

Cant wait to watch vinny play this in the quick look.

Hopefully he can justify giving it a perfect score with no criticism.

From what I read of GamesRadar and Kotaku, it seems to be a fun game with a lackluster end. Will be fun to pick up when I get back from vacation.
Also the framerate seems to be unstable on PS4.

Kotaku was actually very positive on the ending:

Instead, Geralt and Ciri’s story has an honest to goodness ending, and it happened to be an ending that I found unexpectedly affecting and satisfying.

Why the hell is everyone shitting on anyone that has a negative opinion about this game?

I don't mind people disliking the game if they honestly dislike it. That's fair enough.

However it's the people decide entirely upon themselves that a game is "bad" when it's critical reception would go in the face of this and say the contrary.

There is a difference between calling a game bad and simply disliking it. One is making an objective statement on it's quality, the other is subjective view. Of course this is simply stating the obvious.

Reviews don't quite reach me this time around, but I'm super curious what the actual game will be like. Just from a critical perspective I wanna be able to compare it to DA:I's design on my own so bad.

Hyped, but the few comments about combat being a little boring are slightly worrying. I felt it looked a little uninspired in the videos I've seen and thought I kept seeing one 'finishing move' too often, the one where he chops the dudes head off. I figured it was just down to the player being early in the game and not having done much with the skill tree yet.

Also wondering if there are other weapons usable like axes and spears, or is it just the swords and the crossbow?

Did every reviewer just use the PS4 version? I don't see any PC reviews on Metacritic....

Or is that just metacritic being metacritic?

Have you ever been on a product page on Amazon or something and then looked at a very positive review, and then went and read the most critical review?

I feel like everybody does this for everything except for video games, because for some reason it gets personal.

You said an interesting thing.

because people LOVE giantbomb for their humor and laidback attitude

they feel closer to real people than most "gaming journalist"

I see. I read some articles and watched some vids, but I have never been much into their way of looking at things.

I'm never sure on this. I think the reason GAF can be such a negative place sometimes is because there's such a large Giantbomb following. A lot of them seem to dislike video games, I stopped following them after the Driveclub review and then podcast turning into a wrestling podcast. I hate how much they used the phrase 'hot trash' and the heavy breathing and smacking of their lips before it. It's just all so negative.

Edit: sorry that was OT.

Thanks, this is pretty enlightening.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the OT!

either way I thought witcher 2 was fantastic. So If this game builds upon it then yes yes. this year has already been amazing With bloodborne and with this and MGSV I'm crying inside

Stop reading reviews before you experience games/movies/albums yourselves and you'll enjoy things more. I've been doing that consequently for a year now and it's working.
Or for some things that you're not extremely hyped anyway, just read them but still keep your expectations in check and try not to let other opinions influence your perception beforehand. I did that with Lightning's Returns and I had a blast going in with zero expectations.

Dude, he literally just said that the game didn't "grab" him. Like, it's probably not his kind of game. You're letting your blind rage cloud your reading comprehension here mate.

Assuming you're talking about Gerstmann here, like everyone else is doing.

(But given how tired the mods are of this already, this is my first and last post on the subject.)

Scoring what I had hoped it would. Looks amazing. Have the game preloaded onto my 3770k SLI 970 FTW rig. And have the Collectors Edition with 1 days shipping on PS4..

I believe it's been stated that you can turn off the cinematic kills, which is something I imagine myself doing after a while. It should be noted that some reviews really liked the combat, some found it too easy while some found it too hard.

Can you adjust difficulty on the fly? I don't have a lot of time to play games with my kids so I was planning to play on easy. Though with recent review comments of the game being easy, I"m hoping i can bump it up if its too easy.
