Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

What if IGA made a 20 million dollar bet that nobody wanted a new Castlevania-style game and made this Kickstarter as a sort of high-stakes game with the Yakuza. If he won, and the Kickstarter failed, they would fund his dream game: a mobile f2p dating sim. If he loses, and the Kickstarter is a success, he is at the mercy of the Yakuza.

Really makes you think. Maybe he's sitting in his office, stone faced and terrified, and that's why we haven't had any stretch goals.

Wow, already pass 1.4 million.

It was inferred with the $500,000 they would have a total $5 million budget with the publisher backing, but there is still month to go. I wonder how much more it can get with a whole month left, if it has enough steam for another million or 2 if not more.

Broken? Sure. Uninteresting? Nope. The final battle with Dracula with tough af. I really enjoyed playing as Albus. Ascerbatus all day every day.

I would have much more prefered to play as a more traditional combat character. The problem I have is that albus's gun is just "hold the button for dps cannon" and his spells feel too powerful for 90% of the game...I never played him all the way to dracula, I just get bored halfway through and switch back to shanoa. I'd rather take alucard or something. Albus was TOO strong. (The teleport is kind of hilarious)

I legitimately wonder what's going through Igarashi's head right now. He, and his team, are probably very humbled by the amount of support he's received for his project within the past 24 hours.

On another note, I shared the Kickstarter information on my FB feed. Many gamers like myself have shared it across the board. Markman included :).

I personally have a friend who donated $175 to the Kickstarter and currently he's in Japan for a while.

I would love for this to come out on the Wii U. Can anyone explain that bit they mention about Nintendo in the FAQ section? I really don't understand what they're saying.

Theyre using Unreal 4 which doesnt compile to Wii U, (until now) If they want a WiiU version they would have to remake the game in another game engine like Unreal 3, Unity 3d, or one of their own

They're saying it's going to be a stretch goal if the KS is successful enough. That's what I got from the FAQ answer. My guess is they'll have to lower the resolution or something else though to make it work.

Kickstarter is since today available in Germany and you don't have to use credit cards (250€ debit). Good move to promote it.

Kickstarter support told me:

Thanks for reaching out! We've introduced SEPA direct debit for backers based in Germany, pledging less than €250 towards a German project. Because your previous pledges weren't to German projects, it isn't possible to switch over any existing pledges to use this payment method. That said, you will have the option for all German projects that you support!

Been thinking about it ever since I pledged 100$ today but finally gave in and raised my pledge. You just don't get a chance such as this one where you get to support the creators who had an impact on you plus getting cool shit from them too. I hope we see the other stretch goals soon and more updates!

Backed! I never finished SOTN. I have it on xbox arcade but got distracted by other stuff by the time I started playing and never got around to finishing.

LOL @ David Hayter

will be interesting to see what the rest of the stretch goals are for this one.

Makes you wonder if it was purposefully timed to coincide with the Konami hate. I wouldn't be surprised if it was, and if so, it's working really well! That'd just be a plain good business decision.

That's what I was thinking too, although I don't think it was done purposefully. Could it be contributing to it's success because people are frustrated with Konami at the moment?

Or people just really really want a new ____vania game.

Which makes total sense, seeing that UE4 supports Android and iOS... -_-

It's not a matter of power, per se

Epic provides platform support: build your game once, compile it to PS4, X1, PC, iOS, etc.

Epic doesn't support WiiU because the market is too small, it's not worth their time for the number of developers that would use it.

I wouldn't be against iOS and Android versions. In 2 years, the Vita and 3DS will probably dead and cellphone tech is rapidly catching up these days. As long as they included controller support, why not?

No prototype, no gameplay, not even a render target. All of this goes on blind faith. Igarashi is a passionate man and I wish him success, but that's way too little to entice me.

Not sure how well it would work on Android - although with the OUYA supporting Unreal 4, a version for that would be possible.

I'd be against it for the same reason I'm against any other ports to lower-spec platforms: because they would hold the game back.

Clearly, there is already enough support for this game on PC, PS4 and XB1.

There are Kickstarters out there that go on completely blind faith, but that's not very accurate for this one. This man has tangible experience producing products that people like. That's why it has funded so high already based on just a concept.

Same here, but I understand how others would be apprehensive, and rightfully so. If it weren't an igavania, I'd demand the same. I would not have backed Yooka-Laylee without gameplay footage, for sure.

So the whole achievement/stretch goal thing has clearly proven to be way more than they can handle. My fear at this point is that instead of saying "oh shit, we snoozed and you guys have already hit our next few goals" they'll just bump up the amounts on the remaining goals.

Agreed, some apprehensiveness is certainly understandable, and a bit of proof-of-concept would help that. I just disagreed with the "blind faith" comment — I'd say it's more of a guided faith. :)

Yay, Coop, 2 playable characters, nightmare difficulty.

Would an inverted castle be too cliche at this point? What stretch goals would be doable for this campaign?

31 days to go? How much do you think these guys are going to end up getting?
Well, very early in the campaign I predicted 2 million. I now think that was rather low (looks more like 3-4 million), but no one else predicted anything so I don't think I lost :P

It'll slow down a lot after today/tomorrow

So the goals have been smashed to lots of funny little pieces... they gonna give an update? :P

They're resting!

I assume they had all that planned out already, including graphics they'd have to redo. It'd be pretty obvious if the next stretch goal appears and it's above the current pledge total that they're trying to be greedy and get more for stretch goals. I really doubt they'd do this, because everyone would just call them out on it.
