Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

I don't know what they are waiting for to be honest. They haven't updated the stretch goals yet, not even the last two that were met....wasting momentum

No prototype, no gameplay, not even a render target. All of this goes on blind faith. Igarashi is a passionate man and I wish him success, but that's way too little to entice me.
They have released several prototypes across many consoles.

Yay, Coop, 2 playable characters, nightmare difficulty.

Would an inverted castle be too cliche at this point? What stretch goals would be doable for this campaign?

I'd like to think at least a third playable character would be feasible. Maybe even four, if we're lucky (and they want to do some type of throwback char a la 8-bit Simon).

Gimme all dat replay value.

I went and did it... I hope Igarashi comes through on his promise. Also, duckroll slayer incoming? =o

I wonder if anyone has mentioned duckroll's ultimate weapon yet.

I'm a backer. Hoping for a good variety of environments beyond the standard castle -- some forest and subterranean areas would be nice.

Honestly, disregarding what it actually is kickstarting, this kickstarter is kind of shitty.

They're trying something new in an effort to help spread awareness... but ugh is it dirty to lock actual game content behind forcing people to spread awareness.

Hey, you want fries with your burger? Go tell 10 of your friends about mcdonalds and come back.

The funny part about this is that we have actually already unlocked this they just haven't updated the social achievements yet to reflect it.

Yep. I imagine they'll have fun trying to keep track of all the various tweets/vines/shares/photos depicting certain things they want. Once they manage to get through the backlog, I imagine at least the first two will be unlocked.

While I understand they're resting due to the heavy work on the livestream and getting this up and running, the maintenance of this overall kick-starter since has been quite the horrible display and especially so considering the demand it's managed to bring in compared to their apparently abysmal predictions.

We're already on hour 15 nearly 16 without a single update both on the social media aspect and the actual Kickstarter page. I think someone mentioned it before, but this is the very first time I've ever seen a project backed that didn't send out an official update to the backers offering thanks and showing some sort of celebratory material.

I hate to punish Igarashi or the project at hand, but if the new stretch goals end up requiring more funds than already gained, I'll be pulling out and picking up a copy once it's actually released. We definitely should have at least one extra goal unlocked with a second being a very good chance... never-mind that failed backer achievement system they have going.

Yeah, I think we can say without a doubt that IGA wanted to make a new Castlevania game ever since he got taken away from the series. The success of MN9 was just what has shown to him that finding success on Kickstarter is actually possible. In an interview he stated that the Japanese games industry is rather isolated from the rest of the world and Kickstarter didn't grab the attention of Japanese developers until Inafune started his campaign. That explains why he is taking MN9's campaign as an inspiration.

If he had no passion for this project, then I very much doubt that he would have left Konami in the first place. It was definitely a safer environment for someone in his position and he wouldn't have had to worry about getting funding in the first place. After all, it took him half a year to get where he is now.

He was working on at least two Castlevania games before Konami said "we'll put our efforts into MercurySteam" which only proved to be a mistake. They threw everything he was doing out the window the moment they could attempt to put the franchise into the AAA space. It's that emphasis on AAA that probably killed the series, too.

First, I backed this game almost as soon as I got home and am wholeheartedly in support of it and Igarashi.

Then I saw this in one of the tier:

Includes exclusive backer-the mighty swordwhip and super-powerful hidden boss.

Get out of my indie game. Seriously get out.

This is for in intent and purpose a pre-order bonus, and as a person who has backed the game and will definitely be getting this content, I urge Igarashi and his team to not to make this or any other gameplay content exclusive to backers.

Give backers cosmetic bling, I'd love to have something shiny to show that I am a backer but don't make gameplay content exclusive to backers! Seriously just don't.

Make all the game available to everyone that buy it.

If you notice, it's incentivized on the first physical version of the game. I think it's to sell the possibility of the game having a physical presence, which we know will be short lived for such a game. Diehards want it at retail, but retail seems to be a $60 or bust for games. I have a feeling this will not be a $60 game at launch.

And when are they updating the achievements?

Seriously, I have no problem whatsoever about that, but update it >.>

I feel like 10 achievements would already be achieved if they count it.

Honestly, disregarding what it actually is kickstarting, this kickstarter is kind of shitty.

I don't think they thought this through very well, or maybe they just honestly didn't expect so many pledges, because this metagame thing is starting to get in the way of them getting more money.

I disagree completely. I expect those thresholds to be met organically. I think they just want to prod people a bit.

It's no skin off my nose to subscribe to their social media channels.

The 1.75 million needs the crystal lens? wtf is this ?

You need the Crystal Lens to see the next stretchgoal. Without them, we'd see the goal once we hit the 1.5 million goal anyway.

It's a funny idea, but I really think it only works well when you constantly update the achievements. Right now it's kind of a mess.

And it's not like they'll go "Well, fuck, we met the budget but there are 10 tweets missing. Guess we won't do this super sweet boss rush mode"

Just got up to check this and glad to see they added some more stretch goals, but disappointed in how they did it. Figured the ones they showed already were the ones from the crystal lens achievement unlock, but they still haven't updated the achievement progress. Now they may have to aim too high with their expectations for the ones that are unlocked by the achievements. Kickstarters make the bulk of their money right at the start, and a final push at the end.

I don't actually mind this in concept but their execution of it has been total shit.

I mean, I already sorta hate stretch goals to begin with, but now tying stretch goals to social media awareness bumps it up to the next level of shady.

Hopefully by the end of this if the social achievement haven't been fully unlocked but there are enough backers, they just waive the social crap and unlock it all anyway. I mean, I get why they did it, they wanted to help give incentive to people to spreading the word about the game and get more money, but ugh.

I was thinking that. Considering the way the Stained Glass designs work on the weapons, it might be pretty doable to sneak the logo in.

Don't be overt or blatant, of course. It shouldn't be obvious to someone who doesn't know what you did. :)

That has been my biggest disappointment with this kickstarter. It had a nice plan, but it's just not being updated like it should. I mean we defiantly would already have the crystal lens and maybe even the diamond one if they were keeping it updated.

The social media goals weren't lofty, and are a neet idea, if they kept it updated.

The only way that the gamification of stretch goals works is if its fun, engaging, and responsive. At this point the community is playing the game on its own...we're mashing buttons but nothing is happening on the other end.

the hell is the crystal lens? why do I want that? I want to want that.

And here's how you unlock them:

Also, I think it's a bit unrealistic to get 15 cosplays (5 for each character) by the end of the kickstarter period, no? Unless they use the term cosplay loosely.

It is kinda strange how well this whole thing was planned\thought out and we haven't seen the page updated all day. I realize certain key staff members have been putting in crazy hours but you'd think there would be a dude who's sole job was 'update kickstarter page'.

I'm not actually going to make a weapon to spite duckroll FYI. Maybe a little joke in there but I'm totally going to take this seriously, lol

Was it already mentioned that Kinda Funny Gamecast today released an special episode just about this project? Special Guest: Iga Himself!

Wonder what that boss is. I'm hoping some crazy-ass Martyr Logarius or Manus or Darklurker-style secret boss with tons of unpredictable attacks.
Bets on the 1.75 mil tier being "Time Attack Mode"? Looks an awful lot like a stopwatch.
Also a really appropriate mode for the genre, since speedrunning's such a big part of Metroid-style games.

I'm taking mine seriously as well! I kinda wanna make a "speedrunner's weapon" or something with a weird scaling gimmick so that it won't be something you just use for a levels then throw away.

That's why small references are better then overt ones.
Also good. Hope everyone that paid for it does the same/they have a lot of oversight on what gets in. Would rather it not be a bunch of out of place logos/items from other games instead of cool original stuff.

I eagerly await the crazy backlash when screens come out and aren't identical to the concept art.

2.5D implies it'll look like MN9, right?

Good! Make something that will truly make you happy for being able to use. How often do you get the opportunity to change something in a game that will make it a lot more fun to you?
