Yes, without a doubt. I have yet to see a benchmark where the 970 performed 30 FPS less than a 980. Ever. In fact is usually within the 5-10fps range of the 980.


No reason at all a single 970 can't do 1080p@ 30+. In fact, I would bet it does 50+ on release.

I would say med-high settings for around 40-50fps avg.
 
Why wouldn't a 970 do 30 FPS ultra? they are claiming a 980 run ultra at 60, and the 970 is a slightly weaker version of that, correct me if I'm wrong..

I hope to run it at ultra 60 FPS with an overclock

I am hoping that my 3570k and 7950 will do 1080/30 with no problems. The 3GB of video ram should help. And I think we will get quite a few improvements down the road with patches on PC, which may not be the case on the consoles.

Do I need to buy an overclocked 980? What is the general opinion on overclocking video cards? I've read that it decreases the life because there is more heat generation and could cause some instability depending on high how you go. I'm wondering if it's worth it or not.
 
Excuse my ignorance, but aren't i7's largely overkill for gaming? It's been a bit, but I remember that being the sentiment in the "I need a new PC!" thread(s).

I've been looking at upgrading my motherboard and processor since upgrading to the 970 and I'm looking at cost/benefit ratios lately.
 
My 970 FTW+ 2.0 awaits with bated breath.

That was old advice that was solid before the news about DX12 came out. Now it's a better recommendation to get an i7 processor for sure. But an i5 won't be bad. It's just that an i7 won't be overkill anymore.

The only one that said that was Gopher, and he said it was fine UNTIL he put the Gryphon head on his horse. This cause the frame rate to dip below 60 at times when riding.

It likely will be for a while, it's just that when DX12 hits, more cores will help in rendering tasks a lot more efficiently than they could in DX11.

With the insane per core performance of modern CPU's though, you're basically just future proofing for posisble PC exlcusive titles that heavily utilize the CPU for non 3D rendering tasks.

Lol, people who call a 980 "midrange" don't know what they're talking about. It's a high-end card (as opposed to an "enthusiast" card such as the 295X2 and Titan.)

Why wouldn't it do 60? Its a pretty powerful card in its own right. I'm pretty sure the 970 will run the game a 1080p60 in ultra, maybe tweak a few settings or get a few dips here and there...It's still a high end card!
 
Guys I've got 4 Titan X running in sli on a 720p monitor. Do you think I can run this at decent settings and get 60fps?
 
I would love to play this on release, but my only option is a PC with these specs:

GeForce GTX 660
i5-3450 @ 3.10GHz
8gb RAM

Am I ok or should I wait until I get a ps4?

No way to know now. No benchmarks whatsoever since no PC review code released yet.

Your PC specs (processor wise) is way better than the PS4's, but who knows how closely optimized the PC/PS4 version is to one another.

So unless you're really itching to pre-load or something, I'd wait.
 
So how GPU-intensive is TW3 going to be? I still haven't been able to get a cooler to overclock my 4670k.

Edit: I meant CPU-intensive.
