Hatsune Miku Project Diva series general discussion thread

I'm been loving the trailers of the mirai series, and I'm curious, do they run in 60fps in 2D/3D? They look really nice for the 3DS so I'm curious on the framerate.

Also I'm looking forward to mirai DX, hopefully the Puyo minigame makes it in the western release!

I visited Round 1 Arcade in Socal (I live in LA) because I heard they had some Project Diva Arcade machines.

Some thoughts:
1) I don't like the buttons being in a horizontal alignment like this. It felt weird and awkward, would've preferred a diamond shape.
2) The buttons started hurting my fingers after about 6 songs. ;_;
3) You really do not know how badly I want 60fps Miku on Steam/PS4 after playing this.
4) The music videos have higher graphical fidelity in arcade, but the PVs for the PS3/Vita Diva games are much better in terms of variance. Even a song like Sakura Rain had more movement, expression and transitions on console. I give SEGA a lot of credit for that.
5) Miku's face is kind of scary when it doesn't have any shading or contours on it, up-close in high definition. I know they're going for full performer-in-bright-stage-lights+super_anime look, but it wouldn't hurt to show some more natural face shadows...
6) I feel like console did a better job showing "outlines" around the symbols you are supposed to line up, making things a bit easier to time.
7) I did my best to play new songs that I hadn't played on console, but I couldn't resist a few replays; the slide bar is a new addition which changes up songs I'm used to.
8) Unfortunately in order to record progress in the game and collect points and unlock modules you need a special card... which you register to another card service... which you register to something in-game... and it's confusing as hell.

I'll see if I can go out there on a semi-frequent basis to play more songs that won't hit console. This time I'll wear headphones... it was tough to hear over the Initial D machines behind me ;_;

Which Round1? i live in LA and was meaning to go too.

The one in Puente Hills mall.

I played a lot of games there... they had an After Burner machine and one of the older Taiko games (the one that was ported to Wii). However unlike the Wii version this Taiko game had extra content that I assume was "DLC" so I played those songs.

Oh, that one is a bit far from me.

Good to hear they have some good games there though, sounds like a good time.

It's a JP DLC release day for F 2nd (yes, they're releasing something on a Tuesday). I'll probably be streaming it tonight, with a possible surprise preceding it. Stream will be at http://www.hitbox.tv/starcreator in probably an hour or so from now.

EDIT: Now streaming... something.

EDIT2: Still no DLC, but I've switched to Dreamy Theater 2nd in the meantime!

EDIT3: Wrapped a couple hours ago. I have it all saved on replay, though the replays are totally desynced for some reason =/

Plus bonus highlights:

So this got some attention elsewhere, but for those who are only subscribed to this thread and rarely look through new threads (like me): today's Weekly Diva Station update mentions Project DIVA Arcade players can access a questionnaire on DIVA.net that asks what platform players would like to see DIVA Arcade ported to. People who respond will receive 300 VP. See this thread for more.

Okay, instructions for accessing the survey:

I haven't gotten past the last step yet, but that should be everything required, I hope. Some DIVA.net functions are only opened for 30 days after you play the arcade game 10 times: http://miku.sega.jp/arcade/en/divanet.html I can't confirm if the survey is one of these functions yet.

I managed to get my Aime card in the mail and go through all the DIVA/SEGA/Aime registration nonsense using my phone on site. Way too late to do the survey (no thanks to SEGA's ridiculous time limit) but I wanted to play with a card anyway at Round 1 again.

So funnily enough after my 6th credit insert, the game popped up a warning message I couldn't read and restarted the machine, eating my credit. Sure enough, the game is running on Windows 8 and has proprietary boot software to run the game (but that's nothing new for a game running on proprietary hardware). Still, I never thought I would be so relieved to see the Windows 8 loading symbol in my entire life.

If there's some downers to the Diva Arcade game it's the multi-button system. When buttons you have to hit in unison display on the screen the note colors are all changed to RED, making it way harder to react to them. That's just mean especially when you have to strike in the heat of the moment. Notes that you hit with a FINE instead of a COOL apparently don't count towards your overall pass percentage or something... there was one song with 500 notes where I only missed 5 overall but it gave me a score of 90%... and lastly, the slider bar begins rubbing your fingers raw after about 8 plays.

The arcade game has some modules the console versions do not have. Most importantly the Valkyria Chronicles Squad 7 module. Nice.
The game however does not autoassign characters based on their lead songs. So if I pick a Luka song, it'll still assign Miku as default if I have set her as default. A bit weird, but it means I just have to pay closer attention. I still did a KAITO song by accident with Miku assigned which was weird.
The Vocaloid point system is a bit strange to wrap my head around. I relied on the "Trial" system to get a bonus 5 points for every song I cleared but from what I can tell there's no difference for vocaloid points awarded regardless of what difficulty you choose. It's a rather abusive system awarding very few points but it doesn't matter for me since I got the module I wanted.

It is heartbreaking to think not only this game, but also many arcade fighters such as Persona Ultimax and Guilty Gear Xrd are running on Windows, but are never considered for a Western PC release... it reminds me of what PG_jp said on Twitter where Japanese video game companies still do not have a company-wide global strategy when it comes to game development from the beginning. Looking forward to the PS4 release of Project Diva Arcade, which is then given to SEGA of America 1 year after release, where SEGA of America subcontracts the work out to a third party studio who has to work on localizing it using raw HEX editors and filling out 2000 forms for Sony for another 6 months. Global. Strategy.

Not sure if this is the best thread, but does anyone know what's happening to Mirai DX on 3DS in Europe? It was announced as retail and digital for May 29th, but there's still no way to preorder it and SEGA is quiet. Did I miss something and it will be digital only in Europe?

Actually checking on Sega's blog announcement, it seems to only confirm retail for North America. I would assume if you can't preorder it by now, it's probably not coming to retail.

I think you can read it both ways and I'd expect them to be more explicit if that was the case. They also partnered with Koch Media for the release, which is usually responsible for the physical distribution of games and wouldn't be necessary for a digital only release.

I'd take a digital only release if I have to, but the complete silence is a bit worrying

Oh my god I didn't even realize these arcade machines had IC cards like Initial D do. Round1 in Arlington, TX has two of them. You monster look what you've done to me!

The guys I played next to two days ago had awesome looking Miku IC cards. I just have this generic AIME card which has a fish face on it. :P

Arcade is hard! But it's a lot of fun. It's too bad that a typical consumer can't buy a machine and connect it to SEGA's service, I would totally consider (though knowing SEGA they would probably charge 20k a machine and 2k to connect to their server per month)

I'd imagine Arcade has modules from all games in the series, since that VC module is obtainable in 2nd. But obviously looks so much better here. i still need to head to a Round1 soon, it will probably eat through my money real fast lol.

I wish I had those arcade machines in here, but no such luck =(

I spent considerable time playing Arcade when I was travelling and managed to get a few songs on extreme. Still, the combined notes sometimes confuse the hell out of me.

I do not think this year will have a new Hatsune Miku because of that new Idol rhythm game they are producing, but I do hope we will see a new one in 2016.

Oh, I did not play the PSP games, if that's what you are referring to.
I remember trying to see if I could download them onto my Vita a while back but apparently they were never listed on PSN. :/

Round 1 at my location actually removed two of the Diva machines that you see in my first post above, leaving only two remaining. They had more rhythm games from other companies overall on display though (not that I care because I really suck at those fast maniac rhythm games). Probably just a temporary reallocation of space.

Round 1 really rewards you for putting money up front but yeah the credit system is really there to try to tune you out from how much money you're spending just like real credit cards. At least the machine gives you two song plays per 5 credits. Doesn't completely remove the sting though... and just makes me want a PC/console port even more...

Alright I just got confirmation that the game is delayed from Koch Media Germany (distributor for SEGA games here)

Translation: The title has been delayed, new release is most likely end of August / beginning of September. More information to follow."

Not too happy, but at least we know a phyisical release is still happening.

This is only for EUR region and physical right ?
I really hope US release is still on track. Probably my most wanted game this month along with Splatoon.

Thats quite a lengthy delay, thank goodness IA/VT Colorful is out the end of June.

Rhythm games. Rhythm games, everywhere.
Wallet dies.

So far only EU. SEGA said they would announce retailer pre-order incentives though and never did and they've been awfully quiet in general so we'll see.

Wait wait WAIT A MINUTE

DON'T TELL ME THAT'S WHAT THE 2 BUTTON DOES

I pay six credits for one play! If I've been misreading the 1 and 2 as "Players" when it meant plays all this time I'm going to feel like the biggest freaking idiot... Who would be fine with it since it meant more play. A happy idiot.

Has the Japanese F 2nd DLC ever gone on sale? I've been holding off for a long time now for the DLC because it's so expensive. I have both the PS3 and Vita versions so I'm sticking with the JPN release.

My impression was you can choose between 1 song no-fail or 2 songs, but with possibility of failing. Not really sure, since I've never chosen 1.

No, it has never gone on sale. Would not be surprised if it never does.

You can still fail songs with one play, but you're allowed to go through the whole song instead of it giving you a DropxOut mid-song.

This changes so much. Tomorrow is Saturday, too, so I get to put this information to use! I thought it was for a competitive 2-Player mode where the systems could link and you went for score.

Electric Angel is not showing up as free on the US PSN web store, even though I bought the song pack.

Is this happening to anyone else?

I know rhythm games don't really get a push, but has there been ANYTHING from SEGA even remotely promoting Mirai DX? A demo's getting released in Japan, so maybe we'll get that.

SEGA of America is in kind of a rough place right now.
I have my preorder set and all, but... haven't heard a peep outside of Japanese Twitter.

I'm not liking how much the game dropped off the map. It was listed as a May release date for months. Yet now GameStop has a placehder of December. That wasn't so just last month.

Did NA's launch also get pushed back?

Gave up even trying to go for the Plat in Diva F 2. Grinding from the first game x10 no thanks. Dunno what was wrong with the first formula of beat the game on normal & Hard, then grind your favorite songs to buy everything.

Wonder if Sega is gonna ditch the retail release.

Yeah, man gating all the stuff in the Diva Room is absolutely awful. I was okay with banging it all out in the first game, I just cannot be fucked doing it in 2nd. I have all of the items I need to do it too.

Shame Mirai got delayed. Just this morning I was thinking about going to pre-order it. Funny enough at one point it was even showcased on the gamestop tv thing they play in store. So wonder what happened.

SEGA's NA office getting closed down is probably the cause. I remember listening to a podcast interview with a Sega employee recently. When asked about Mirai DX's release date he couldn't give an answer.
