Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds featuring Hatsune Miku, Ichiban, Joker, Steve releases Sept 25, 2025

"Still polishing the car physics", thank goodness, it didn't feel particularly good to play in the beta in my opinion.
It wasn't bad but it was weird.
I like a lot of what I see here, but car physics are what make or break a kart game for me. Idk how to say but the cars look too stiff compared to other racers like MK or CTRNF.

That's because they don't use squash and strech during animations, which is fine too, but also the animations themselves (like rotations and whatnot) have no ease-in and ease-out, they just play from start to finish with the same speed and no momentum or flavour.

It all added to the feeling of a very "whatever" game during the beta. I love Sega kart games and All-Stars Racing Transformers was awesome, so i really hope they are working on all this stuff, because judging from the beta they still had lots of work to do.

Does this mean they ARE going to have a bunch of SEGA characters?

I really don't care for the Sonic roster at all which is why All-Stars Racing Transformed was so appealing to me in the first place.
I guess 10 to 13 characters if we look at the remaining slots on the official asian website. (there are also Sega stages unofficially confirmed like Lava Galaxy Force 2 and Two Points Museum).

If the game is successful, there will be more stages and characters after the first year of content.

(Galaxy Force 2 is deeeeeep cut for old Sega fans... we're not forgotten 😍)
It's the beta version, the recent built is prettier.

It looks like they learnt their lesson from Team Sonic Racing and are going back to Transformed style (still the best Kart racer ever imo).
Shame the tracks are still mostly Sonic tracks, and not the mix of tracks from Sega's history like in Transformed.
I think it's a huge mistake for them to include so many Sonic Friends. Nobody but the most hardcore Sonic fans are going to know who most of those random OC looking characters are, and they could have used the Transformed type roster to drum up essentially free advertising by including lots of old fan favorite characters. I like that we have even a handful of guest characters now, but those D tier Sonic characters should have never made it in to begin with. I'm expecting that they'll probably try to nickel and dime us with season passes full of guest characters after release.

But yea, Transformed is easily the best arcade kart racer of all time as far as fun, which is what should matter in this genre, IMO.

Oh sure sure, like most of those Sega characters are even known. No one cares!

So, you're saying these literal nobodies are more interesting than characters from a series like Bayonetta/Shinobi/Streets of Rage/Panzer Dragoon/etc

Jet the Bird(?):

Vector the Alligator(?):

Something called "Omega", I can't even tell what it is:

Pink Hades Zazz the...uh...:

I just can't agree that nobody would care about having fan favorite characters from other popular Sega franchises.

Most people don't know of Panzer Dragoon, Shinobi, or Streets of Rage, let alone have played them, so I don't see why you care about obscure Sonic characters being in there but are fine with characters long since forgotten.

Bayonetta is the only recognizable name in your list and only because of recency bias.

There's a difference between "most people" that might not know these Sega franchises, and the "almost nobody" that has any knowledge or affinity of these dollar store OC characters.

Plus, Sega has a bunch of franchises returning in the future, at the very least, it would make sense for them to include Shinobi/Virtua Fighter as free marketing for those IPs/games.

What is your reasoning for not wanting a nice selection of fun fanservice guest characters exactly? You seem to be really against it. Are you a Sonic purist or something?

Yeah, the ideia of think 'Sonic' friends are more popular than SEGA characters is absurd.

The only popular ones in the entire Sonic franchise are Sonic, Tails and Knuckles.

I'd be willing to bet Vector is more recognizable than any of the characters you mentioned simply due to being in more media than video games. TV shows and comics.

That said, I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool to have old forgotten characters from Sega's past and will be far better than whatever 3rd party collaboration junk they have. I just don't see the point of being upset about obscure characters over another set of obscure characters.

There are at least 10 popular Sonic characters:

But there are also Sega popular series like Streets of Rage (the last episode passed 3 millions copies without crazy marketing), Crazy Taxi, Outrun, Yakuza, Persona, Golden Axe, Valkyria Chronicles, PSO, Monkey Ball, Puyo Puyo, Virtua Fighter, Sakura Wars... Most of them had been million seller.

Ok, IPs like Burning Rangers are very obscure for most gamers but not series like Streets of rage. (plus, there are every year in most top 3 of best brawlers of all time).

Unfortunately, we'll have only 10 to 12 Sega characters... unless the game is successful.

I can't help but feel that this game needs to launch at either F2P or $20 and rely on battlepasses and all the normal online nonsense if it wishes to compete.

which is a shame because it sounds like it's actually quite decent.

A large scale open beta is 100% necessary.

It will be more popular than previous episodes:

The Deluxe Edition is crazy popular...
Sega will make a lot of money thanks to the collab characters like Steve, Sponge, TMNT.

Of course, Sonic and Sega boys will first be mad but then understand that it will allow more Sonic/Sega characters as well.

Sega stated that they'll expand the life cycle (season pass and free doc characters) after one year if the game is popular.

For free marketing only, Sega should add active IPs like Shinobi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi, Puyo, Samba, Monkey Ball, PSO and generate even more hype for Crossworlds with movie characters/Tracks like the Upcoming Outrun.

well that's good to see at least.

and honestly, along with all that, they should just push heavy into the console wars angle.

create drama about it being multiplatform, throw shade like they did at the announcement. Just get more eyes on the game as possible.

Yeah, there are already dramas (nobody gave a shit about Team Sonic Racing), even VG outlets are fueling the consolr war 🤗.
When it comes to kart racers, I have admittedly been on Team Mario Kart. I didn't mind others like Crash Team Racing and Sonic Racing, but they never gave me the same satisfaction that Mario Kart did. Going into Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, I had that same worry, though I told myself I was going to keep an open mind. However, when I left, all I could think about was how much I wanted to go back and play it again. I don't say this lightly, but I could see Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds truly competing against Mario Kart, and maybe even coming out on top.
💋💋💋

Sega must keek provoking Nintendo. 🤝

Gameplay video I grabbed from the media kit.

The collaboration between Sonic and SpongeBob shouldn't end there. I'd love to see a 3D platformer combining both franchises, a Sonic 4X SpongeBob: The Movie, along with an RPG, a new Columns, and even Space Channel 5: Part III featuring both universes… and of course, Ulala. ❤️
