Ahahaha that's to good. You can tell which posts they cherry picked too.
8-bit seems like a weird novelty considering the games people associate with IGAvania are 16 bit plus.
I really like the art released for Miriam so far. I kind of hope they improve the art and design of Gebel and Johannes though. They seem a bit plain right now.
there is no content for the game itself locked now that they have a special backer edition digital copy. Kinda odd that the backer content itself its not for all the backers thought (now that is available both physical and digital)

I think Miriam's design is a bit busy overall tbh. Not that fond of her clothes. I'm ok with it though.

It's certainly livable. My big issue is that it's such a stereotypical direction to take the design in and it works against the game as a period piece.
Are there really people boycotting this game and the kickstarter project over the anime tone of the designs? I've been hearing on a lot of Japanese blogs about "foreigners" causing a ruckus about the kickstarter over the fact that main character is a woman and the art style is heavily anime styled.
But on GAF, nobody seems to take issue with the designs at all...
I had completely missed that. Do they specify somewhere what that 'exclusive backer-only content' is?
The physical copy of the game for Xbox One, Playstation 4, or Steam (PC/Mac/Linux) will include exclusive Kickstarter-only content:
The mighty swordwhip
A super-powerful hidden boss
A Kickstarter Edition slipcase
I don't think so. The outfit's kind of in line with what was going on with Charlotte or Young Maria. (Even Mina in AoS was just a shrine maiden) It's not super stylish and cool like Shanoa, but I still think it fits. (And even then, there's the possibility of your outfit changing with your equipment. really cool if they let you equip capes and have it show up on your model)
I think it's a huge downgrade from Order of Ecclesia and Ayami Kojima, but it's not anime bad as SMTxFE or Neptunia or other games, plus these are just illustrations, the game's look will be different. I just hope the story will be light and we won't get something like Portrait of Ruin.
Are you saying that the backers that back the game with 28 $ (the most basic that includes game), aren't getting the "backer" content?
That's inaceptable imo and people should make a fuss, the backer content should be avalaible for everyone that gets a copy of the game by backing it, not just to some "premium" backers.
The community has put a lot of faith on them and gave more funds than they need or deserve, imo... they should have more goodwill with them
I'm thinking about doing the $125 tier but can anybody tell me if I can select two platforms? I'd like to get a physical copy for PS4 and digital on Steam if possible. Also, does anyone know if the digital copy is the backer edition or a standard digital copy?
I think you can; as I want the same thing for PS4 and PC. The Digital copy may be standard but don't quote me on that.
I need confirmation on this. Once I get it, i'll bump up from 100 to 125.
Also, I personally don't think backers belong in the credits unless they actually contributed something to the game design - like the ones at 'design a weapon' tier. Their work/idea technically made it into the game, which deserves credit.
I think the Dracula X take on Maria and Charlotte were both kind of bad in the same way. Namely, they were inauthentic for the setting and strayed too far into anime cliche. But let's be clear, I don't think pink dress and pigtails Maria in Rondo was bad for that particular game or the identity of the series at that time. But that wasn't Iga's era. Iga's CV was Baroque, regal, and more grounded in realism and history for its style. It felt more sophisticated. Kojima's reimagining of Maria with short curls and boy clothes in the PSP remake had much great verisimilitude.
On the other end, Charlotte's design was just trash (Johnathan with his '80s looking gear was too). Her head looked like an egg somebody had drawn eyes on and her costume was totally wrong for a WWII era story with the miniskirt and the thigh highs. They also wasted the WWII setting in general, but that's another discussion.
Like I said, the designs in this new game are livable, but I believe they could have been more than that.
Yeah, well said.

Well, it's a fair criticism. A self-respecting warrior shouldn't be fighting monsters in a mini-skirt and high heels, for instance. It'd be refreshing to see a character design that shows integrity instead of just being drawn to be sexy or cute for its own sake. That doesn't mean it can't be stylish, either (see: Shanoa). You simply can't show cleavage in a mainstream game anymore without someone calling it sexist.
Yeah I can't stand that. Looks so goddamn stupid. At the very least I would be happy if they stopped the stupid pigeon-toed poses.
Nah the only good thing about LoS was the art direction. Game was gorgeous.Well Lords of Shadow design was horrible, so I'm glad they went to the anime style.

YO. WE NEED TO HIT THAT STRETCH GOAL.Haha, 8bit level stretch goal at 2,25 mill.
Wonder if that'll be a classicvania linear level, would be fun if so.

Yeah I meant mostly the first game. I wasn't a big fan of the character designs in Mirror of Fate, and I haven't played LoS2 (though I really dig Gabriel's design in LoS2 but I can't comment on the rest).
Would be kind of neat if it were a more proper Castlevania tribute too. Inti Creates is quite capable of that, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was more Mighty Gunvolt and less Mega Man 9/10.Saw the new stretch goal, 8 bit level should be awesome wonder if our MC will remain 2.5D in this 8 bit area or if she'll revert to an 8 bit style herself

I thought the first Lords of Shadow was quite a looker, and kept things fairly naturalistic (though Gabe Belmont's hair, neck, and gloves always looks silly). Character design wise, things started getting weirder with the latter two games. The new character designs were really exaggerated and kind of busy, and characters took on color associations (Simon was red/orange, Trevor was turquoise, Alucard was dark turquoise). It was like they were caught between a desire to keep things naturalistic, and a desire to inject the exaggeration of a shonen anime into the design.
This would be awesome to play with my friend if they add an online co-op mode. What do you think are the chances of them doing such a thing as a stretch goal?
I don't think that's the kind of thing that'd work out very well over the whole game without fundamental design decisions. This would be awesome to play with my friend if they add an online co-op mode. What do you think are the chances of them doing such a thing as a stretch goal?

Boss rush on the other hand, I imagine it could work for that even if balance is wonky. But it'd probably be fun to do it that way anyway.
