Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

It blows my mind that they have sold 13 people at $2000 the right to make a weapon, and 3 people at $3,000 to monsterfy their pets.

Some rich Castlevania fans out there.

SOTN is forever one of the top 3 games for me and I loved all the ones I've listed. Good to know it sounds like Order of Ecclesia was one great last 2D Castlevania hurrah from Iga.
I had heard that IGA had less input on this one than almost all other handheld Castlevania and it was made by a different team at Konami. Could anyone confirm/deny?

Also, I don't to bump my own posts, but I thought this was information worth sharing:
(Follow the link if you want to read, information in an official e-mail regarding the "8-bit level", and that it may turn out to be more "16-bit styled")

Wow, almost $2M already! All this talk has me hyped to replay SOTN and *finally* get around to all the DS games. I played and finished all the GBA ones, but I think series fatigue kicked in and while I bought all the DS ones, I never did play/finish them, barely getting an hour into the first one. Can't wait to finally get into 'em. :)

I'm not a fan of that particular implementation, but I'd like to see a weapon change IGA's "slash slash, backdash/evade, slash slash" combat system up a little. Give the enemies a bit more HP and make them slightly more aggressive to change up the combat. Tie it to that weapon only so it is more a "challenge run"/alternate take on combat than the main focus.

I like the Metroidvania formula, but honestly it's gotten a bit stale. Furr--er--"Dust"'s combat is kinda brain dead easy with that projectile and twirl attack, I'd like to see a bit more engagement.

SotN's... directional magic system wasn't the best, but I'd like to see a weapon take that style and change the combat up a little.

Have you played Valdis Story? It's got a pretty good combat system.

Man, the Bloodstained tumblr is awesome.

Aren't all the games fairly similar anyway? I think what put OOE over the top for most people was Shanoa
Shanoa does look pretty cool, but I thought it was it's seeming blend of "classicvania" with linear-ish levels, and "metroidvania" style gameplay.

I really should play any of the games besides SotN, it's the only Castlevania of this type that I've played, though it was enough to make me a fan of Igarashi.

Is this game really good? I'd like to play it on something other than PC, but if that is the only place it will ever be then I might get it there. Seems likely that it won't come to anything else, like my preferred option of Vita, since it came out a while ago with no word.
Are you thinking of Circle of the Moon maybe?
After some research, maybe I am? I had heard that OoE was developed at least by an unusual team from the other most recent (at the time) games in the series, rather than Igarashi's standard team. I thought I had heard he didn't have much influence on it either, but I really do not know.
A dreemer must dreem!

Ah, Iga, or some say Igavania...

I'll stop now.

Lol, what are you even referencing (if anything).

BTW, just a quick question since I don't have much knowledge regarding Kickstarter funding paces and longevity, do most keep at least a pretty steady pace for most of their campaign if they get this big already? Do we expect them to slow down to a good $300,000 a week from now until the funding ends now, or quicker/slower?

Man, the Bloodstained tumblr is awesome.

Yeah, and you can get this cool wallpaper from the background, a little over 1600x900. It's replaced my Xenoblade X wallpapers for now, will probably switch back once we get US release news, I can't be completely loyal to Bloodstained :).

Oh, and I hope a stretch goal includes a live orchestral (not simulated) option for the soundtrack. From the samples, notably Ippo Yamada's I hope they also tighten up the composition a bit (the violin seems a bit busy/disruptive). I also hope we can get some songs like the end theme of SotN, or the menu themes of DXC/Rondo of Blood and SotN

Sorry but I don't back kickstarters that don't have prototype gameplay footage. But this is fully funded so I don't need to worry, just need to put it on my radar and buy it when it comes out if it turns out good, here's hoping :)

The playstation blogs flickr account actually has much of the concept art/ artwork in a very high resolution.

Oh, very awesome! Thank you for bringing this to our attention, the wallpaper I inked earlier is cool, but the one complaint I had was the plain white background didn't seem like it fit, even a simple black background will look better I think, and since this includes the logo and other assets with well done transparencies, I or anyone else can do a lot of things with these.

I actually planned to go higher with my pledge than I ended up going. What I wanted was lower than I expected it to be and the higher level stuff is too expensive for me to justify.

Still a decent size pledge IMO at least and I'm really happy this finally happened. I've missed Castlevania and I don't think I'll ever stop but this is the closest we're ever going to get.

The main characters are based on IGA and his wife IIRC so I don't believe the game had less of his influence than the others. This is also the first time I've heard of something like this.

I also think it's cool that in effect, we will get 13 more weapons due to backers. Though, we don't know how many were in the game to start.

It's a real bummer about Ayami Kojima not being on the project, but I'll still end up throwing $300 at this.
Or at least try since I'm blowing more than that on Yooka-Laylee.
So many good games being revealed. My wallet is crying, but I'm excited as hell.

What is your pledge amount?

Are you saying that the backers that back the game with 28 $ (the most basic that includes game), aren't getting the "backer" content?

That's inaceptable imo and people should make a fuss, the backer content should be avalaible for everyone that gets a copy of the game by backing it, not just to some "premium" backers.

The community has put a lot of faith on them and gave more funds than they need or deserve, imo... they should have more goodwill with them

I'll be honest I'd rather the content not be locked for anyone. Not everyone is going to know about this game before it comes out and not everyone has funds on hand for the kickstarter.

I would prefer it that the game itself be the same for everyone, while physical limited edition goods, input on content and such obviously would have to be limited to the KS.

What is your pledge amount?

I pledged $300. I can't justify $200 for a map or $750 to put a quote in the credits (Although I might reconsider if I think of something).

Although I expected roughly what's included in the $300 level to be $500, so I can't complain.

Yeah, I think the "leave your own mark on the game" stuff is awesome but I'm not really creative enough to feel the need for it. It's also quite expensive but I don't think it's unfair.

Yeah her lack of involvement is my only real disappointment with this project, however I am still happy with the art. Did they confirm it's Hirooka, it looks a lot like his art in OoE to me.

Has he ever commented on whether he shopped this around to the console manufacturer's, or has PC/multiplatform always been a hard and fast rule? I have a very hard time believing MS, Sony, and Nintendo all refused to lock something like this up as an exclusive for the rumored 5 million dollar budget. I mean MS blew more than that on a fake Phantom Dust trailer and some test environments, and I'm sure D4 was also in the same ballpark.

They didn't directly say but they basically stated it was shopped around to anywhere that would be viable.

I suppose it's possible they refused single platform development though and for what it's worth Yoshida from Sony has actively promoted the project and pledged on his own as well.

Eh, looks nothing like Hirooka to me. It's someone they call Natsume.

Maybe I need new glasses, or maybe I just made the assumption on the expectation. Either way thanks for clarifying.

So the physical copy is just for backers right ? I still don't know if I should grab that or not... It seems a bit expensive.

The way they worded it said it's an exclusive physical edition for backers which to me implies there will be a regular physical version available at retail. However it doesn't implicitly state such so I don't think we can be sure at this point.

if I pledge for a hard copy I will be able to change my address at a later date, right? We'll probably be more moving again within a year so I'm worried about that aspect.

There ought to be a customer service line set up after the campaign ends. You'd be able to email them and request for an address change. I've been in a Kickstarter (Veronica Mars movie) before where I moved and they let me change my address.

Yeah, you should be able to do that. The past Kickstarter projects that I've backed always asked me to reconfirm my mailing address before they deliver the goodies.

Very good, I hope David Hayter stays far away from the Snake voice. I really like him as gold ol' Solid Snake, but if he goes anywhere near "gravel monster" with Gebel... Personally, I wish they didn't promise him as a voice actor, it comes off like they have just contacted him for anti-Konami publicity. It seems like he did a good job not sounding like Snake in SWTOR as the Jedi Knight male, but that kind of just sounds like his normal voice from what little I've heard. I also can't tell if that voice has range. Ah well, it is done, let's hope he does his best (again, he IS Snake for me, but it doesn't seem right for him to be Gebel).
Seems to be around 50% the same people between it and PoR, comparing credits at a glance.

Yeah, IDK. I thought I had heard that here on NeoGAF, maybe it really was Circle of the Moon the poster was talking about. Interesting trivia about the main characters, I can't find the info on the wiki though, where can I learn more?

Maybe they could get Nolan North instead. WARNING: KIND OF BUT NOT REALLY SPOILERS FOR RESONANCE OF FATE LMAO

Well that's pretty typical for kickstarters, it should pick up again quite a bit in the last day or two.

Yeah I know, it's interesting how they always just stall like this, like the donations just instantly drop to a trickle and always around the first 48 hours or so before picking up again near the end. I wonder if it's necessary to run these things for 30 days when the majority of donations come in the first 2 days and last 2 days.

I would guess it lets enough time for people to plan their budget over a month. And the surge at the end might be a result of people hesitating for a month.

Not really that interesting.

First wave of publicity + instant support from hardcore supporters = initial spike
People who don't camp in gaming sites but are still interested in the project = slow uptick
Fence sitters + Final wave of publicity + people waiting for specific stretch goal to be met(and yes, this is counter-intuitive but people do it) = final spike

If you didn't run it for a decent time period you would lose out on money from non-hardcore supporters and from the fact less media outlets would find the ending of the kickstarter to be newsworthy.
