Sony: "No concerns" about any lack of PS4 software this Holiday

Last one sure didn't. Awful decision to put it on the PS3.

GT6 did so poorly that Polyphony Digital stopped updating their Gran Turismo series shipment page (after more than 10 years of updates).

Gran Turismo. It's bigger than Halo actually.

Halo 3 outsold GT5. Halo 4 probably outsold GT6, so that is debatable.

EDIT: Also, Gran Turismo is Europe's baby, and they don't need to do anything to wipe the floor with the XB1 in Europe. North America is the only real battleground region.

Last gen, Sony took a lot of risks with the PS3 first party line-up and delivered early on. Why is this not the case this gen yet?

The few risky projects that came out so far have had a lackluster critical and commercial reception. Except for Bloodborne (I consider it risky because it makes drastic changes to the Soul series combat mechanics).

What? Which early risks paid off for Sony? The first few years of PS3 was filled with bomb after bomb, including uncharted which opened to less than 200k of sales in NOVEMBER. Warhawk, which was heavily downsized after a challenging development? heavenly sword? Folklore? Where were the rewarded risks?

Sony is reacting to their money pit spending of last gen. This is the new AAA landscape. Fewer titles. Larger budgets. Annualizable IP.

Sony has already released two new IP this year. Should they hold them until the holidays every year so we can avoid this conversation?

Yeah but, for studios that have made their own engines, it still takes a while to convert that engine made specifically for a certain console or set of consoles to run on a completely different architecture.

Knowledge of the hardware had nothing to do with the flops that were Knack, Killzone SF and The Order. They were just poor to mediocre games. Even the problems that plagued DriveClub I'd attribute to bad management or lack of resources.

Even the notoriously difficult to work on PS3 had a much better library of Sony published new IP or exclusive games at a comparative timeframe.

So will that make 3 Forza games before GT is even talked about? Seriously, Sony needs to reign in their studios instead of being so off hands. I appreciate the creativity coming out of Sony studios but I feel like more often than not, the games don't play very well and could use some guidance. Eh, I'm just a frustrated Sony fan, I guess.

Are they hands off or giving these studios time? GT is not Forza which has become and annualized franchise. GT is one of Sonys biggest IP's. That's not something you rush

I buy everything 3rd party on PS4/PC and only get WiiU/XBone games if there is no other option. So unless I walk in to a store and there isn't a single game on the shelf from anyone this winter, I think I will be fine.

Fuck else are they gonna say

seriously

Came to relay this sentiment, not much else could be said whether they have something up their sleeve for E3 or not. "Our first party lineup blows this holiday season, get another system if you want exclusives," probably hit the cutting room floor.

Why are people talking about gt and forza sales? this is off topic and not related to the quote in the OP.

This is too funny - we've gone from vita has no gaemz to ps4 haz no gaemz...

Im love seeing how many people rip on tearaway and im sure 98% havent even played it....and yet people clamour for 3d pltformers and new ips...

People should just go back to their annualized AC and CoD and outta this thread.

Obviously he cant talk about unannounced games
I just dont get some people

Quantity isn't really quality in this case, though. I thought FM5 was a big letdown. Horizon 2 was great, but, it's not really what GT fans would be looking for. It'll take a big shot in the arm for me to get hyped for 6.

I only mentioned Forza because it was brought up in the OP and I realized that it was the third game before GT even came out. I wasn't even aware of the other conversation about GT going on. My apologies.

The PS3 from launch until 2009 had very few good exclusives, but starting Feb 2009, the following exclusives were released in the next calendar year:

- Killzone 2
- inFamous
- Demon's Souls
- Uncharted 2
- Heavy Rain
- God of War Collection
- God of War 3
- Ratchet & Clank: A crack in time
- MLB 09: The Show
- A new Singstar
- Fat Princess

Yes, Sony published ALL the above games between Feb 2009 & Mar 2010 in what was arguably the best 12 months of any publisher ever, before those games PS3 "had no gaemz" too.

Sony's first party takes a long long time to start a gen, but when they do, they don't stop until the console cycle ends.

be concerned before E3 doesn't make sense.
I have to admit, on the other hand, that the many delays occurred and in general the pace of Sony exxclusive releases could be worrisome

How many people in this thread have played No Man's Sky ?

Also I think it's ok to not be interested in Tearaway but still be looking forward to other platformers/new IPs

Edit- Off topic :(

I've seen people mention Until Dawn, but wasn't that supposed to be a Summer release?

It's still slated for a summer release, as far as we've heard. IMO it's a candidate for being delayed since I heard Sony say in a news article that it was good fit for Morpheus. IMO he probably wasn't serious enough to go through on it though.

One could probably change that statement from "PS4 has no games" to "PS4 has no exclusive AAA 90+ metacritic western-appealing games that I want that aren't Bloodborne." Compared to the competition (only excluding PC, as it's far and away leading), PS4 has several more exclusives.

No one cares what comes out in pre-season.

These past few months have honestly shocked me with how much some people seem to think like this. Yeah, those last 3 months make a lot of money, but they aren't the only ones that matter. I don't work for those companies and I want to play games all year around not just shoved into that tiny time period.

For me personally, Bloodborne DLC is all I need for the "holiday season", I've already put over 1k hours in Bloodborne, but I understand why people want more.

No Man's Sky will either be delayed or be a letdown to most people. It's too ambitious and the studio too small. I will be genuinely shocked if it comes out in 2015 and lives up to the astronomical expectations they've set with their near-Molyneux level hyping.

It didn't outsell GT5 but it still sold more than Forza 5, at least from the little info we have.

Besides, the second GT of every gen always sells less than the first, GT5 sold ~16 million (w/prologue), while GT4 sold ~10 million (w/prologue).

What is this lull in game releases that they are referring to?

It's truly remarkable. MS and the gaming leave conditioned the hardcore gamer to think that any 1st party game not released in the fall is null and void.

Sony has plenty of exclusives 1st party and otherwise releasing throughout the year.

Let's revisit this topic after E3 and let's revisit this after the holiday when both consoles sell very well.

sony first party having hard time on PS4, its almost 2 years, many lf them still have zero game releaseon the platform.
lets hope things will pick up soon.

I don't get which is the right way to approach threads like this one, should we approach them as hobbyists who are writing at a videogame enthusiast forum discussing a console's future line-up or should we approach them as potential sales prediction/results thread? I mean PS4 is the clear leader sales wise and we all know it, does that mean that people aren't allowed to criticize or judge a line-up just because PS4 sells more than the competition? if that's the case then there's no need for AAA PS4 exclusives at all I guess since Sony has all the 3rd party devs on board and the system is selling well as it is!

Anyway for me so far I'm only excited for Persona 5 and hopefully some Bloodborne DLC for the PS4, Halo 5 & Gears 1 Ultimate for Xbone and Star Fox, Fatal Frame 5 and Xenoblade X for the Wii U. It's not some crazy fall for me but it's still decent enough, that being said E3 is close so there's still hope for some pleasant surprises.

Personally, I'm really tired of Sony hyping No Man's Sky.
Just let the guys at Hello Games go radio silent for a while until they have a firm release date and better build to show off.

Why are people talking about gt and forza sales? this is off topic and not related to the quote in the OP.

Because there is nothing to really talk about.

Gara obviously didn't spill any announcements.
We don't know what else Sony will offer until E3 at least, so this interview gives us nearly nothing interesting.
There is nothing to discuss really and it only triggers list wars and weird comparsions...

There are a dozen of interesting questions the interviewer could have made, this was certainly none of them, because it was pretty clear that there would be no proper answer...

Not really too suprising that the topic is going into a particular direction :P

Are you mocking Tearaway because of its lack of commercial pull, or just because you think it looks crap? Because yeah, it can't compete with the likes of Halo 5, RotTR or Forza 6 in the charts, but it'll still be a great game that'll likely review better than any of those big releases. And exclusive or no, the PS4 is going to be doing most of its selling on the back of major third-party partnerships anyway.

Personally, I'm really tired of Sony hyping No Man's Sky.

They've been silent since PSX last year haven't they? That's half a year now.

Not to disagree with the man in red (specially one as dashing as you) but I think that's a valid area of discussion in the topic: Sony mentions there will be no lack of "strong" software. What do they mean by that? Do they mean sales-wise (which is where the gt vs forza discussion comes in)? Do they mean critical acclaim? Do they mean that "well known" Sony IPs will be presented at E3 and then released before the end of the year?

The truth is I don't know if E3 will hold any surprises (in terms of new IPs or surprise releases before end of the year) but I also think it would be silly to deny that Halo is pretty big. Was the Halo IP hurt by Halo 4 and MCC? I'm sure it was. Is it enough to relegate it to a second-tier IP? I honestly don't think so. Microsoft is already starting to rev the Halo Marketing Machine, they are going to bet big on Halo 5.

Now, I'm not saying that Sony lied about "no concerns" for the Holiday lineup. I'm saying that I want to know if they think they can compete in terms of quantity (could be), quality (possible), or IP/Brand recognition (i.e. launch buzz). The latter is, I think, unlikely. Well, unless they pull out a secret Gran Turismo launch for the Holidays (which brings us back to sales).

Ah, but it does make sense. If Sony have unannounced titles ready for Holiday 2015, which they say they do, then how can we express our "concern" after E3, when opportunity has passed us by?

Naming Tearaway PS4 as a game to be excited for is :\

E3 will bring the games I'm sure.
I think they only named Tearaway because it's one of the (very) few games they have announced, and they didn't want to announce any games in this statement. That being said... Tearaway is not a terrible exciting game...

Funny that people are worried about Sony's lineup when I've got a ton of games coming up that I'm looking forward to. MGSV in September, Battlefront in November, NMS (possibly) in December, maybe Bloodborne DLC too. I think I'll make it through Holiday 2015 a-ok.
