There are 2 sides to every story.

Either it isn't actually Chief, or there's a very good reason behind his actions. I wonder if that's a scene we'll get to play in first person, or will be revisited in the comics. I'd imagine that perhaps whatever he's up to has something to do with Halsey's direction. Maybe?

Finally, the big picture is being brought into play. This episode absolutely crushed it.

I'm just worried about the scope that Halo 5 must cover. There are a lot of new (old from the books) Spartans to introduce, probably 1 or 2 Forerunner AIs, a whole suite of Elites, possibly a new villain, and a proper introduction to ONI.

If this campaign doesn't hit 10 hours+ on normal, I'm not sure how all this will be covered.

I have no idea what's happening.

I can't say I agree with the big picture being revealed. I mean we know why Locke is after him but Chief's own mission and motivations are still obscured.

Wesley, pls. As if this is real.

I've been riding the #TeamLocke train since the live action trailers were released, sir. I'm definitely not Anti-Chief or anything, but I'm stoked to see how Locke approaches what seems to be one hell of a quagmire.

Exactly.

For some reason after listening to the episode I just couldn't get this quote out of my head.

Why use John? Why vilify him in public?

Because we have to chase him. Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now, so we'll hunt him. Because he can take it, because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Dark Knight.

That's an excellent parallel.

I think we're going to see Locke slowly realize how much of a pawn he is as we progress through Halo 5, and just how badly he and the Chief were setup, in different and branching ways, at the hands of ONI.

Before people jump to team Locke, remember that ONI was (book spoilers ahead)
supplying weapons to religious fanatics to keep civil war going on Sanghelios and researching genetic manipulated plants to poison the population
, so this spartan could even not be the Master Chief.

ONI doesn't want peace talks between humans and aliens. Maybe Chief was still under orders when he went to the embassy, and ONI orchestrated the mission's collapse. I could see this being the first mission of the game or something.

I can see it now..

[scene: ONI underground deep sekrit laboratory]

ONI Tech, Level 3: "Guys, we need to find a way to frame the Chief, he's acting too high and mighty these days, he's bro's with the Arbiter dude, and Lord Hood still wears 117 pajamas.. how do we bring him down?"

ONI Tech, Level 1:
"Hey! I just found some green spray paint.. are you thinking what *I'm* thinking?!"

[scene: Two ONI techs in green painted armor flying through the air Ferris Bueller-style in a Warthog headed towards the Embassy]

True true, maybe the mission they use to frame him, but also the final straw that breaks Chief from his duty?

just slap some MJOLNIR gen II styled after the MK VI and you've got yourself a Master Chief in the eyes of the public.

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe Halsey gets in touch afterwards and brings him together with some other disillusioned Spartans to try and stop apocalyptic shit. Meanwhile Locke is sent to eliminate the Chief or figure out what he's up to.
