That new Carol Corps cover is fire. So excited. But first, A-Force tomorrow!

Are any of these romance comics good or just tacky? Parody? That Secret Love cover has me cracking up and I'm wondering if the book itself is that self-aware.

You know at first, I wasn't remotely excited for A-Force but I'm fucking pumped now.

I initially didn't care either, but after I heard that G. Willow Wilson was writing it (I've heard good things but never got to Ms. Marvel) and hearing them say all the right things in interviews, I'm all in.

I hope my comics shop has the killer Singularity variant. I haven't preferred a variant cover yet but this one is so cool.

Please read Ms. Marvel.
okcoo

I'm with you, though. The art and the story have sold me for sure. I'll be heading to the nearest comic store to pick an issue.

Up this week:

A-Force #1
Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars #1
Loki Agent of Asgard #14
Master of Kung-fu #1
Planet Hulk #1
Secret Wars Battleworld #1
Spider-verse #1
Ultimate End #1

I'll admit, A-Force has my eye but I think I'll focus on Deadpool and Spider-Verse today.

Off-Topic but the Edge of Spider-Verse compilation already has the first issue of Gwen's solo comic. =/

Ultimate End
was really weird in that it doesn't seem to fit what happened in Secret Wars. Are these the real 616 versions? If so, why is Cyclops not Phoenix? Everyone also seems to have their memories intact here and some people have returned from the dead. Also, I know I've read that scene with Ultimate Tony and Cho before, but I can't remember what book it was in.

That scene refers back to the UU crossover in All New X-Men, I think.

I was a bit confused too. It wasn't a great issue. It seems to me like they are their real versions. It's definitely the 1610 people anyway.

Ultimate End takes place here (as far as I can tell):

Like every other Battleworld, it's comprised of new versions of old characters. Ultimate characters from their universe and Marvel characters from Marvel Now (except for Iron Man, who is the Heroic Age version?). And it's set up that they've seemingly been occupying that space for a while.

Much like the other alternates, that Cyclops isn't the Cyclops who survived the universe collapse.

So it's really not the end of the Ultimate Universe. That's still the conflict you saw in Secret Wars #1.

So there are probably two versions of 616 Cyclops and Spider-Man? Raft survivor and recreation.

Was that the same Spider-Man who'll appear in Renew Your Vows?

Also, isn't Manhattan supposes to be an amalgam of 1610 Manhattan and 616 Manhattan? But it's not the original characters from those two worlds, just very similar versions?
Ultimate Tony seems to have a pre-Battleworld memory though.

Can you spoil this for me? I'm on the fence about picking this up.

Not much to spoil. Just set up that we mostly knew already. The premise is executed as well as you would hope.
Cap is looking for his "warbound" Bucky. It's what has him set off for Greenland. Cap is a gladiator who fights in the "Killisieum" run by Arcade in Doomstadt. Cap wants to know where Bucky is, tries to kidnap Arcade, doesn't work. Cap gets brought up in front of Doom and Strange and they tell him a section of Greenland no longer is easily controlled and that they had Bucky go there to attempt to assassinate some Hulk leader. Bucky got found out and kidnapped. Strange tells Cap to go kill the Hulk leader, free Bucky, and live freely in Greenland. Doom has an agent in Greenland that Cap is told to meet up with. Turns out to be Doc Green. Then there's a story written by Greg Pak. Seems to tell the story of the Earth that became Hulk ridden that got incorporated into Battleworld and became Greenland.

So far: Raft survivor, Ultimate End version, Renew Your Vows version, MODOK version. Not counting the off-shoots in Spider-Verse.

Don't think so? Renew Your Vows Spider-Man lives in the Regency.

And yes, that seems to be the case.

Oh interesting, I wondered if we were ever going to reference that again since the crossover happened so close to SW.

So what's worth picking up today? I was planning on grabbing Battleworld #1, but $5 is a bit steep. Spider-Verse seems to be the standout so far but I didn't read the event and don't really follow Spider-Man that much.

Edit: apparently Battleword is only $4. Guess I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, but I'm just thinking in terms of Ultimate End and the main Secret Wars books and what it'll mean for the eventual fallout. I suppose the Raft versions will be the "real ones" that will populate the new main universe, but with the resurrected ones thrown in the mix things get complicated there.

Who in the UU knows that Peter is alive again? Is he even alive again in the world of Ultimate End?

Definitely a lot of questions to be answered. The issue felt really short.

Peter's circle: Miles, Jessica, Gwen, MJ, Aunt May. No clue on the second question.

Ultimate End #1: I was sold a bill of goods!
I expected this to be about the end of the Ultimate Universe, instead it's about a weird amalgam of the 616 and Ultimate Universes that have been occupying Manhattan together.
Offers more questions than answers. Great moments with 616 Spider-Man dealing with Ultimate Universe ramifications.

A-Force #1: I like the idea, but this was all set-up I guess? It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Odd point for me, why is She-Hulk the leader of Arcadia? Miss America is still a boss.
Also, Miss America x Lady Loki is my new power couple.
Image Jorge Molina remains one of my favorite artists though.

Spider-Verse #1: Various Spider-People -
Spider-Gwen, Spider-Girl (Anya), Spider-UK, Spider-Man India, Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir, collectively called The Sinister Six in-issue
- are trapped in a world controlled by Norman Osborn. Where does this take place? I assume Manhattan? Crowded place in Battleworld. Still not a fan of Andre Araujo's work.

Uncanny X-Men #35: This issue deals with what happens to Cyclops' X-Men-in-training now that their leader is gone. And the lingering issue of Mystique and SHIELD. Pretty psyched about their potential future as Bendis never really got a chance to dig into these characters. Also, I admit, I'm loving new Dazzler. Great friggin' issue.

Dear lord that Lawful Stupid Peter Parker is horrid. Great UXM frame, tho.

I was just thinking of how I was so angry at post-Brand New Day Spidey and MJ, but now that Silk and Spider-Gwen especially exist, I'm kind of like...done with MJ...

Planet Hulk, Battleworld and Shang Chi were all pretty good.
A lot of the stuff felt like set up that I wasn't particularly interested in. Ultimate End in particular lost my attention almost immediately.

Oh, the new issue of Moon Knight was a real step up, art-wise, from the previous one.

Honestly, with so many of Peter's supporting cast getting either killed off or thrown on a bus they needed to repopulate his book and they've done a good job with it.
