Like I said, the gameplay is on-point (& it's not just my opinion from playing all 4 Testfires). It's just the content that may be seen as lacking at launch. Obviously that will be rectified for free later on, but it won't be in the game the critics review.
 
Not sure why people are worried about the score the game will get. It kinda amplifies the problem with Metacritic being way too important and the content of the reviews seem insignificant. The content of the reviews are much much more important than some number. And they're opinions, you may not agree with it, but that doesn't make them wrong, unless it is based on incorrect info or something.

I personally won't give it a score until one week after release. The servers could explode as far as we know. I'm pretty sure they won't but still.

These same impressions have also been talking about how much of a surprise the single-player is...

The only missing and quipped on content is party matchmaking.

The single player is why I think it'll land somewhere in the 8/10 territory.

As per my comment on the previous page:
The very simple fact that I can still listen to a gaming podcast be it Bombcast, BeastCast, IGN NVC or what have you, and see the guys reviewing it making comments about how "surprised" they were by the single-player, of all things, and it not being a bot showdown, makes me think people have strange expectations.

Call of Duty does not get lower scores for single player does it? fair question
this was a 4 v 4 title long before we knew it had a single player hope this does not harm scores

any good place to read the spoilers yet? I want to know it all thx

Why would a rich single-player experience, where most expected bot-arenas or corridor shooters, hurt the score?

Call of Duty also isn't getting that hot of reviews anymore.- average score for the latest release is approx. 8/10.

This is so confusing for us non-native speakers. First time I heard that was on Jersey Shore, now I think you're like on of those people.
 
In a way. Nintendo letting us play and being quite blunt about the stuff the game has / will get and won't have makes it a lot less dependable on reviews.

I think a lot of people interested have already decided to buy or not.
I enjoyed the testfires and will get it.
 
I can only play monday unless I go sell my 3DS and DS Lite at gamestop for some eShop cards damn college loans

Friday would be best I want to keep up and get gud fast

From what I've seen, this is how I see the game. By the time all is said and done, it seems like it will have lots of content; at launch, multiplayer seems like it might be a little light. However, how reviewers decide to review this (core gameplay vs. on-paper content, out-of-the-box stuff vs. free additions, etc.) remains to be seen.

Regardless of reviews, the game seems fun.
 
I think this is the kind of game that will get scores mostly in the low 80s but 10 years from now will be remembered as a true classic of the generation, while most higher rated games are forgotten. Reviewers will fixate on "lack of features" while ignoring stuff like "Incredibly fun even for people who don't usually like multiplayer shooters."

In nearly 30 years of playing video games, Splatoon is the first time I've ever been excited for a multiplayer shooter.
 
So ok then let me ask you: Are you ok with having to play the same map ten times in a row for instance? Does that sound annoying to you?

Glorious. I like how you also didn't fix me saying "Splatloon" - which is my favorite way to say it in real life, so thus that is how I type it on "GAFloon"

I'm also not sure if anyone is splatting avatars (probably not, still worth a shot), but a female inklingzard would be the highest badge of honor I could wear here on GAFloon.

I'm used to people choosing the same stage over and over again in online multiplayer games, so yes.

I didn't mind it in the stress test and I know we're only getting 5 maps for the first week, so I'm ok with it.

I'm sure it's going to bother some people though and it's understandable.

So you're asking if I like to play on Blood Gulch nonstop?

The quantity of maps is irrelevant if they end up being relegated to "Is it Blood Gulch?" or not. Or Sword Base HQ if its Halo Reach... as I still play that but haven't touched Halo 4 in a long while.
 
I played the retail demo, the first three levels ozzed charm and innovation on top of being a blast to play through. Friday seems like an eternity away now, my only remaining question is whether I should start with single-player or jump straight into multi turf war...

What say you GAF, multiplayer or single-player first?
 
Since mentioning avatars, I thought about a change but I don't know to how to photoshop.

If there was a way to have smash, mario kart, and splatoon in one avatar...

I'm going singleplayer first to master the gyro controls, trying to learn new controls in a competitive environment is an absolute pain. No reason to rush the singleplayer though, a hour or two campaign and then straight to online.

Singleplayer to start with to hone your skills, learn the movements effortlessly then after a while, jump into online and when you begin raging, take a break and resume singleplayer.
