That is correct. Singleplayer is built around the Splattershot. The Amiibo challenges are specifically made for the Splat Charger and Roller respectively and have you play the same levels again with those weapons, hence why they're extra challenges.

Sub/special weapons can be found within levels though and they can be used only in the level they're found in.

No, if amiibo didn't exist we would likely have the opportunity of playing with other weapons without the need of buying the toys. Or they could have released is as DLC, too.

I didn't expect the subtitle to be all that popular really since there were way many clever suggestions to choose from already, haha. My reasoning with this one was wanting to tie it back to the Inkling culture since they've generally been said to love music. Each header is a song reference, and with the OT title I wanted to reference both the focus on style/customization and the whole 90's vibe many people think the game evokes - hence the reference to a prominent 90's song which is partially also to be taken literally.

That said if we reach OT2 I definitely think the other subtitles people have been suggesting will get some use.

Got mine and have been playing for like 3 hours now :3 Really enjoying it. Tried a few different weapons, my favorite one so far would be the .52 Gal but I don't really like the sub-weapon that comes with it so I'll be looking for something better.

Thanks for explaining. While I said I prefer some of the suggestions (like Prepare to Dye), your title's still better than Squids Next Door :P

If it was normal DLC I wouldn't be able to buy the 3-amiibo pack, beat the challenges, get the gear, then sell or trade the amiibos on kijiji.

The second hand amiibo market is strong and since the Squid amiibo is only in the 3-pack it will be a rare amiibo and could end up being worth as much as I pay for the entire 3-pack.

I hated amiibos at first when I only had Fox but since I got into the second hand amiibo market I've been buying used and trading and having a lot of fun trying to unlock all the Mario Kart amiibo suits for cheap. Currently I've spent $45 on amiibos and have owned 7 different ones at once and 9 different ones total.

Personally, I take no issue with the use of amiibo in Splatoon. I do take issue with the game not being feature complete until August though.

Also, there is no ranked turf war? Seems odd, as that is the most strategic mode. The two ranked modes look like they prioritize kills more than the balance struck in turf war.

I don't hate amiibos, I only dislike content locked exclusively behind them. So I personally take issue with the use of amiibo in Splatoon, especially because it is really hard to find amiibos if you don't live in NA/Europe/Japan.
 
Just got the dispatch note, but the demo dampened my hype a little as I haven't had to use the gamepad in a while and I didn't like it. Hoping a full version gets me into the swing of things. Didn't cancel as £25 was too good a deal.
 
Great OT thread. Waiting for Friday is going to be so difficult. We gotta get some NeoGAF (SplatGAF?) games going on Friday night! Hopefully the servers don't freak out.
 
All these people getting their copy early isn't making this wait easier, ha...

Anyway, nice OP! Can't wait to finally get average with charger weapons :P

By the way, you can order equipment from other players in the ingame plaza, yeah? I'm guessing the amiibo exclusive gear can't be bought that way? (I only want the schoolgirl clip tbh)
 
DPD tells me my Squid Amiibo Boxset will arrive from Shopto in about 5 minutes. Comes with dogtags/keychain too which is pretty cool (I preferred that over yet another t-shirt haha)

NNID is Captain_Spanky and will be on from around 10pm tonight, so hit me up GAF!
