Batman: Arkham Knight Gameplay Video – Time To Go To War

Unless that has changed the PS4 has already been confirmed to run at 1080p.
Well, I certainly hope that's true, but the footage in that trailer did not appear to be 1080p native to my eyes. Again, hard to tell through the compression but the telltale aliasing and shimmering you get with a sub-native presentation were present in that footage.

All good features

Problem is these are FPS killers :/
I don't see any "problem" there. Isn't it great that those optional feature put the current highest end hardware to good use ?

High-end features demand high-end hardware, no way around it. Are you expecting a game sponsored by an IHV to be very light on the hardware ? Of course not.

I very likely won't "max out" AK at 60fps on my 970 and you know what ? That's great, because it means Rocksteady and Nvidia have aimed relatively high in terms of scalability.

The previous video which name I don't remember was said to be PS4 footage and has been pixel counted at 1080p. That said, a richer (in terms of effects) 900p backed by solid AA might be easier on the eyes than a visually cutback 1080p presentation.
There is a real argument to be had here and it would not surprise me at all if some developers would opt for the former. If I was a console gamer I know I would prefer higher grade effects over IQ, and I don't use downsampling in games because the gain in terms of IQ, to me, are not worth it if I have to drop some settings. I prefer to use FXAA over MSAA because my hardware is simply not up to the task if I don't want to compromise the visuals.

I think there are quite a few console gamers which would agree with me (and understandably others who wouldn't).

Looks great, but with all the preorder incentives and DLC I will wait for the inevitable "Game of the Year Edition". More than enough games to play at the moment...

In case you are interesting in knowing what effects we are talking about :
GameWorks-Games-Batman-Arkham-Knight.jpg

The cape uses the standard Physx sdk (APEX) on all platforms, but the PC version will offer several GPU driven physics stuff like Asylum, City and Origins.
I've always been a sucker for good physics in games and even if it's purely cosmetic I greatly appreciate them. Turbulence also has to do with particles and smoke.

Nvidia and Rocksteady have yet to demonstrate those effects, I'm particularly intrigued by Faceworks....

Physx added a nice touch to Origins, that is the only Batman game I've played on PC though. I kept my old 760 around for Physx, hope it gives me a little boost here :D

Normally it should but bear in mind that sometimes a dedicated Physx card can actually bring down your performance. I've seen it happening on the Geforce forums, frankly I never thought about using my old 570 as a Physx card because of potential driver conflicts.

this gonna be 60 fps on consoles?
I don't think they have ever confirmed 30fps but considering all the console footage has been 30fps it seems like a safe bet. I don't believe they could get the game looking as it does to run at 60fps (aside from some very isolated segments) on either consoles.

So if the dev give us the ability to use guns to gun down fools, would that be totally ok and in no way clashes with the Batman's ideology as long as we don't use it?

Yes it would be ok. As long as the dev never forces you to shot anyone what's the problem? There is no problem.

Good thing they have Batman using the Woman Disabling Grip.

With their ultra sensitive nerve endings located in the upper arm, all women can be incapacitated by a man firmly grabbing them around the humerus/biceps region.

Wow! Guess I'm playing this, Witcher 3 and MGS V for the rest of the year.

I'm going to guess that, in this case, we're really looking at PS4 footage.

For one thing, the frame-rate is not completely steady. Also, while it's tough to tell from the video, it does not look like native 1080p to me. There are enough issues with the footage that I actually do believe we're looking at the near finished PS4 version.

This. And if this is what the PS4 version looks like, then I'm more than satisfied.

I think the context here is that you're in an armored vehicle shooting others in armored vehicles. Fair's fair in that context. Batman can easily take out the vehicle without killing the driver inside.

I'm a bit of a PC gaming newb and while my rig meets minimum specs, the processor is just shy of reaching recommended specs. Should I still go for the PC version or PS4?

Ivy just knew she'd get that work if she tried to fight back. She's smart.

I was excited for this game, then they announced the season pass and ensured that i'll just wait for a game of the year edition that includes everything around christmas time.

It doesn't even feel like a summer release for me anymore. I hope its amazing. Can't wait to play it this fall.

For me, I find 1:1 pixel mapping to be the starting point. Get that done then worry about AA and graphical flare is my approach when tuning games on PC. I'd have to stick with 1080p console games with no AA so they're mapped to my screen properly. I'll also be dodging 4K for a long time due to this. Buying a 1080p TV to replace my 720p tv last gen was a stupid mistake I regretted shortly after.

"Hey commissioner, I was there when batman brought poison ivy in. Strange thing is he brought up some sort of holographic communication display on his wrist and the person he was talking to was your daughter Barbara, sir. I saw her clear as day sir."

I am... worried. I am not feeling the Tankmobile at all, combat seems overly floaty and jump around-y and on the technical side I don't see what people find so impressive. I hope to God I'm wrong, I have played all three Arkham games and I love them but this just seems... off.

So sup with Batman causing a whole bunch of collateral damage and killing a bunch of civilians in cars and firing missiles near crowds in this? I thought you were cool, Batman.

All the dialogue with Poison Ivy was...Offputting. Scarecrows VA is good at least.

Unreal engine 3 makes me sad. We all know the technical limitations from this engine.

I do trust Rocksteady, but...

This game should be at least running at 60 frames to be impressive using an old engine.

Really hope they just shut my mouth and deliver something amazing in terms of quality and performance (since most of the third party releases are failing to deliver both).

Really, that's what you have to add?

I don't get it...it looks incredible regardless of the engine. Like it looks far above say Gears of War 3 and it is open world.

What are you talking about? It's a heavily modified version of the engine.

Y'know, she can just go in without a fight without you trying to project some kind of sexism agenda, jeez.

Holy crap this looked amazing, I'm only gonna have 5 days to play this before I'm gone for a month and it doesn't look like I will be able to put it down, can't wait.

Keep an eye out for every other character that Batman takes somewhere. Note whether they are
1) Incapacitated or not
2) Tied up or cuffed
3) being moved around with the patented Woman Disabling Grip or not

Arkham asylum was my goty 2009 and arkham city my goty 2011, but for some reason I am not really hyped for this game (yet). Maybe it is the focus they have on the batmobile, maybe it is the pretty bad sounding voice acting, or maybe I am just kinda tired of the series after three games. Hopefully the game will turn out great, but winning goty like its predecessors in the trilogy? I don't really expect it.

So after watching the trailer, I don't really understand some of the people claiming the combat looks the same as previous Arkham games there are some immediately obvious changes even the pace of combat has speed way up.

Still just going to wait for the GOTY edition.

I think the Batmobile looks dumb as hell personally, both mechanically and visually. Never did like the tank style Batmobile designs, except maybe the one from The Dark Knight Returns that was literally a tank.

Yep, But Gears of War is very old, and not to mention, it's for Xbox 360.

It should look much better than 360 games, and it does, by comparing to Akrham City (will not mention the Origins disaster) it looks much better, but from a new generation perspective I think it's weak. Come on, just look at Infamous Second Son and other open world titles.

But why? Why would she?

Getting caught is always part of the plan for supervillains.

Even this console footage of Arkham Knight looks better than Second Son. I would compare youtube footage of both games to see the differences.

A game engine doesn't matter as much as a talented team. This looks just as good as any current open world games, if not better than some. What are you watching?

Again...they are working with their own HEAVILY modified version of UE3. It's very dismissive to just say, oh...it's UE3.

My most anticipated game of the year so far. I think everything looks great (maybe not the tank combat, but I will have to wait and see how much of it we have to deal with). I wasn't one of the people wanting the batmoble in one of these games, but the driving parts looked pretty fun to me.

I also wasn't bothered by the voice acting. Hell, I didn't even know there was a problem til I started seeing all the complaining in this thread. lol. Guess maybe I just don't have the right ear for that kind of thing, but it seemed fine to me

But why? Why would she?
It's supposed to be a homage to the way women were treated in the past. Batman was created back in the 1940s remember? Obviously by modern day standards something like that would seem patronizing and plain sexist, but in this context its historic genius. Rocksteady sure did their homework!
