Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

You know what I don't get? Why don't they just try to implement 3DS connectivity like in Smash? That way you have gyro controls and a secondary touch screen for the map and teammates.

Because the Gamepad already comes with every Wii U?

Anyway, I'm downloading now. Gonna watch another episode of Cowboy Bebop while I wait. Why haven't I seen this show before?!

lol

Sounds like I might get one of the Amiibos later on if the challenges are a decent "hard" distraction.

Alright I ordered a stupid Amiibo. It will be my first one. Hopefully it doesn't take long to get here.

This is a good series to get as they've already gotten over their butt-ugly learning curve for the Smash line, lol.

Not exactly sure to be honest. Alternatively, there's the circle pad pro or N3DS for not gyro controls.

The thing with Splatoon is that it's not just gyro or motion controls. The gyro controls work in conjunction with the right stick. You also need to use the triggers and bumpers, so the New 3DS could work, but it really wouldn't be a good allocation of their time.

Because even then, you have to load 4 Inklings on one Wii U. The game already drops to 30fps with just 2 players.

Oh okay, I haven't actually touched Splatoon yet, so I was misinformed about the controls. I thought it was a one or the other thing.

The splitscreen online thing is likely locked due to the difference in framerate and possibly graphics. It'll also require extra work. A bit like four-player splitscreen in Mario Kart.
Oh right, I forgot to consider the hardware limitations. It'd probably be a lot tougher to stream to a bunch of 3DSes than Smash.

Right, it wouldn't work unless the 3DS could somehow render stuff on its own.

This game is really, really legit.

Did my part, I've stopped at rank 10 for now. I find the Splattershot Jr weapon set a really good noob-friendly and all rounded set, I've barely played with anything else. Bubble shield is just too good.

Amazon still hasn't shipped my copy of Splatoon.

It's still "guaranteed" to arrive tomorrow. I swear to god Amazon, if it doesn't show up...

Exact same deal with me. The hell is Amazon doing?
Add me to the club too.
I have ordered the bundle + the 2 other amiibo, all seperate.
I have Amazon premium with 1 day delivery (when you pre-order you are guaranted to get it launch day or even day -1/-2)
It is now past midnight here and still show as "no yet dispatched"

I'll be sure to ask for a compensation as I'm not paying 50€ per year for premium for situation like this.

I've had stuff turn up without being set to despatched so don't fret just yet.

Seems there really isn't any protection against spawn camping in this game if everyone gets taken down at once. Had a round earlier where we ended up with 3 rollers on our team, so some guy with a Splattershot painted the immediate area around our spawn so we couldn't use squid form and then stood himself in such a position that he could shoot at us the second we leave the protective zone, but far enough away that we couldn't reach him before we got gunned down. And this was just one guy handling 3 people, had the others joined in we wouldn't have stood a chance.

Sounds like it would have been possible to overwhelm him if you splatted as much ground as possible. That said, the time you lose from the spawn lock must have been prohibitive already

Downloading!

Going full digital again. I someone needs to add some points to their eshop, i always find this site quite handy: Mspoints.de

So how do we find each other on Gaf? Just add people from the OT and join their games?

Could grenades or super jumping get you out of that?

Nintendo should patch in Smash like spawn invincibility for that.

Pretty sure there's a short spawn invincibility. Someone will hopefully know for sure.

I stand by my point, however, that there's no real spawn camping. Having three rollers is pretty unfortunate, heh.

Edit: didn't realize that image was so big haha

My boyfriend thinks the splash screen to the testfire looks like this:

Ugh, 10pm hurry up (It's 4:48 pm here)

You guys~
Blaster equipment set is so much fun especially when you have a good team back up.
Actually I am quite curious about this, as I also want to play around with the Blaster but I'm thinking it might be sort of impractical!

I haven't actually played with the Blaster so my analysis will require some practical experience to temper it, however...

- The Blaster has low to medium range, no auto-fire and has low firing rate.
- It can OHKO and 2HKO with some aiming, but the .52 Gal can also 2HKO and has a better firing rate, whereas Chargers can OHKO at safer distances.
- In the Blaster's equip set, only the Blaster itself can spread ink, and it already has a low firing rate.

So, I have a hard time imagining why I would want to be using the Blaster when the other options seem to make more sense. What exactly could you do with the Blaster that would be harder to replicate with the other weapons?

Could grenades or super jumping get you out of that?
Probably depends on how many enemies are there and what weapons they have. Dropping a grenade makes a bunch of ink but the enemies could cover it back up.

Super jumping wouldn't work if all 4 players are rounded up at the spawn point.

This sort of situation sounds like it'd only happen if it's a total rout though, which hopefully won't happen often.

IIRC the spawn points themselves have force fields that stop ink and prevent enemies from moving into them, but that's still not a super large area by any means.

Alright I added m'self to the spreadsheet. EU timezone. I'll have the game tomorrow afternoon if all goes swell. I'll try to add some people then as well since I don't have much gaffers yet. :D

Still don't know if I'm gonna go physical or digital with this...

I feel like I'll play it more if it's readily available, but I have this weird *guilt* at not owning physical copies of a ton of Wii U games like 3D World, Donkey Kong, Wonderful 101...

I'm kinda tempted to pick up the physical versions of those games one day just because. :)

Pretty much, he kept a near constant rain of fire down on us such that attempts to quickly cover some ground and break out were short lived. I finally managed to make a break down the side while he was being kept occupied so others could spawn on me, but by which point the other 3 had mopped up the rest of the map and there was no hope to recover from losing a whole min with them running rampant on the map.

Could grenades or super jumping get you out of that?
Unless I'm missing something, you can't seem to jump unless there is another teammate to jump to - which isn't possible when everyone is locked in the base.

The immediate area around the spawn has a small protective area, but when the enemy has unhindered line of sight to you after that it's like charging through no mans land.

I have no doubt it's entirely due to our team being all rollers, but it seems a bit unfair that the game doesn't appear to balance teams by weapon types or give any chance to get out of a lockdown situation if you do end up with a team that has no ranged combat potential.

Sucks that I'm going physical, but I feel like if/when nintendo closes these servers, I'll be able to sell the game.

Than again, the resale value at that point... hmmm.

Splatoon get!

NYC Best Buy, I pre-ordered. I got a couple of weird emails today, first one saying it had been delayed until May 22 and then another that it would be ready for pick up tomorrow. But my order status said it was ready for pick up today so I just printed it out and went. Took them forever to locate it but I got it.

I can't even try the arcade games, waiting for the 8 players to be found: it only takes 3-5 seconds to make the teams! Online is amazing, best Nintendo online game, as it makes you forget it's online. Seamless, perfect.

Performance is superb, no lag whatsoever, 60fps. Beautiful.

I appreciate little touches like the miiverse integration - both grafitis and personal messages above avatars on the plaza. I spent 5 minutes reading them, Splatoon is praised so much I wonder if Nintendo filters messages. Maybe everyone thinks it's amazing.

I'm at at Level 4 so far. This is such a unique game.
Getting something this new, mixing many genres, with an old school arcade dominance... well, it doesn't happen that often in gaming. We hold a rare game there.

Thank you Splatoon developpers, you just made me happier than I was.

Right, well. I've only managed to do this once in my team and it was in one of the bigger maps. It took some effort to push back the team all the way back to their base so my stance on it is basically that it's deserved at that point. And it wasn't like they couldn't do anything, they could still try and take us out (granted, they weren't hamstrung by rollers), throw grenades, etc.

Ultimately, I feel like Turf War should have some logicality to it in terms of how a game progresses, at least on some maps. Others like the skate park are more about intensity and wild swings so it's good to have maps where the better side can systematically work towards domination, if that makes sense. I appreciate that variety.

Its tough with the Wii u since the boxarts are amazing and the limited nature of some if the print runs but many of the games would be really nice to always have ready go.
