DC reveals hip and edgy new look for Lex Luthor

Wait how does the computer system change what the race actually is? I thought Kyrptonians naturally had that stupid amount of abilities, only reason the race mostly died off was because they didn't train enough.

Sounds like you're mixing up Superman with Goku or...something. Because I don't think this has ever been a thing with Superman's background. I want to say originally it was said that Kryptionians were all as naturally as strong as Supes, but they quickly did away with the idea since obviously no race that naturally strong would all die out when their planet exploded.

Superman just instantly got his power when he came to Earth and got that yellow sun fix. He never trained to improve his power, just to get in control of said powers (such as what was portrayed in Man of Steel when he first gets the suit). He didn't train to get said powers unless they rectonned it at some point that he trained insanely hard on his spaceship as a toddler when he was flying through space, but that would be some next level DBZ shit right there.

This is the only lex i know.
Actually if we're going by the actor who Lex's design was based on, then he's Greek-American.

And here I thought the New 52 couldn't get any more 90's.

I can't wait for this silly wave of experimentalism DC is going with to come to an end. At least for their core books. I don't mind the smaller books and trying new things or reaching out to new audiences.

I always thought powersuit Lex was super cheesy. I mostly experienced Superman as a child through the animated series, were Lex was a cunning yet ruthless businessman who preferred to work behind the scenes and in secret to undermine Superman. To see him have a fistfight with Superman in some sort of Gundam outfit is jarring. Yes, I know he got the damn suit in JL but he was off his rocker then.

I'd like to tell myself it'll last. It's been so much fun having Luthor be a member of the Justice League. I'm sure he'll split after Darkseid War.

The oddity here is that Darkseid War seems to be taking place before all the status quo changes in the solo books... So, it means he won't be going back to be a villain for a while.

Yeah, I'm sure that will last or not be some false tactic lol. C'mon now.

It could be, but the way they sold him I could believe it. Basically he's doing it out of self interest, as in, if the league fucks up he dies too because the planet goes with them. WW had him lasso'd.

Cold is just trying to play Lex though.

I don't think ridiculous character designs are exclusive to the 1990s...

True, but during the nineties it skyrocketed in comics. Over-the-top use of shoulder pads, utility belts, coats, mullet superman (i take that back, mullet superman was cool), blue and red superman, Deodato Thor, Guy Gardners redesign are just some ot the things that pop in my mind when i think of the 90's. Some of DC's redesigns now make me think of that period again.

That can't be lex...

Wtf is going on with DC?

Jared Leto's tattooed joker is horrible enough.. Now this?

Is this what Lex will look like in BvS?

......I don't see how this is really all that hip or edgy at all? It's dorky, but it seems like a regular dorky comic design, not overly tryhard dorky. None of the redesigns seem that extreme except for Bats armor, and i guess Supes in jeans and shirt but he's been wearing that for a while now hasn't he

He doesn't look so bad, in fact he -

While Luthor will be retaining the familiar green and purple color scheme that's been his hallmark for decades, it's clear the villain is opting for more of a street level approach. His traditional armor has been replaced by a trenchcoat, sunglasses and gauntlets. If anything, he seems to be taking fashion advice from Static of the Static Shock franchise.

- aaaand now I can't unsee this.

It's interesting, I've always thought he was white until someone else also said he was black. I guess it is based on perception, I can see the case for either. You're right though, Timm based him on Telly Savalas
Also Superman might be based on the last live-action Superman at the time(Dean Cain(Big Show's co-star from his latest action movie)). So DCAU Supes has some Japanese in him.

Nothing really edgy about that, it just looks stupid. Ditch the glasses and give him gloves that cover all his fingers and it would be fine.

I would take the 90s designs coming back if it would allow me to get more Jean Paul Valley.

You seem pretty concerned. You should really dig and find out the answers to these pressing questions. Please, let us all know exactly what the fuck is going on with DC, and save the uninformed and casually disinterested amongst us.

Ehhhh... I like corporate Luther, but I also like corporate Luther that evolves into classic super evil genius Luther, who then devolves into corporate Luther because he turns a new leaf, who then evolves back into super evil genius Luther because fuck being good, etc, etc...

Question: what is it about the New 52 stuff that people like? Genuinely curious.

Personally?

Snyder's Batman has been consistently great

Lemire's Green Arrow run, while short, was the best run GA had since Grell couple decades ago.

With Gotham by Midnight they've finally found a way to make a story about Spectre that's not just works, but actually doesn't retread previous works.

Same thing with Grayson, great story, very fresh take on the character

Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Swamp Thing got long quality runs under New 52.

New 52 also brought a lot of quirky fresh comics, like Harley, Gotham Academy and Batgirl.

I also quite enjoyed Justice League Dark.

For me that's it. But I'm sure there's more
