Just because the rumor is packaged in hyperbole doesn't mean the core of it can't be true.

I don't find it that hard to believe that MS bought the IP and reworks the existing assets into a xbox exclusive

There's no indication that Konami has any interest in selling any of their IP's. They're not in bad financial shape at all. In reality they're actually doing just fine. They're just focusing in other areas now. And they're using their IP's for those other areas. They even have a Contra slot machine.

The game being 80% complete is hilarious when all the information we have from Kojima and Del Toro indicates the game was barely in preproduction.

Exactly. If it were 80% complete then Konami would've made sure it was completed because of how much money they would've already put into it.

I don't take the details for fact either and that is not the point.

Rumors like this are always shrouded in misinformation and i'm surprised people use the obvious hyperbole as a reason to dismiss it all together.

The real rumor here is: Xbox to buy Silent Hills

The details don't matter.

I can absolutely see this happening in some way.

Well keep an eye out for it at E3 then. The fact that every part of the rumor is ridiculous might keep the rest of us from buying in.

Wow, you should make a thread.

LMFAO

I'm totally grilling Konami at E3 - well, maybe not grilling per say but a few friendly questions certainly. Even the PR said it was bracing itself for an absolute barrage of questioning over Silent Hills, haha!

"We will now be answering questions from the press. Yes, you sir, in the front."

-"What happened to Silent Hills?"

"We appreciate the response fans had to P.T., but please understand that it was merely a proof of concept. We will take fan feedback into consideration when moving forward with the Silent Hill series. Next question."

-"What happened to Silent Hills?"

"Are there any OTHER questions? Yes, you there ma'am."

-"Fuck Konami."

So no Rare at E3 maybe? :(

They already said they'd be at E3 "and beyond"

Better be a fuckton of content then.

Well look at it this way:

Games launching this year that are announced and have been seen: Halo 5 Guardians, Fable Legends, Tomb Raider (somewhat), Quantum Break, Gigantic (Its in PC alpha) -> These will all be at E3 and probably Gamescom too, its natural to do that.

Announced but not seen anything of: Forza 6, Gears of War (Black Tusk), Scalebound, Crackdown -> All of these will probably be at least at E3, although I've long speculated Crackdown will be held until Gamescom like QB was last year

What isn't announced but we know is coming somewhere along the line: At least 1 Rare game, Twisted Pixel, Press Play, Lionhead new IP -> We know all these exist because Rare/TP/PP don't have anything announced and have to be working on at least one thing

Phantom Dust is a complete wildcard at this point, no idea if/when it will turn up anywhere. Decisive Games - Microsoft's new strategy game studio, I don't think Kudo would have mentioned it in the recent re-org if they weren't close to announcing something but its not a guarantee. KI Season 3... could be too soon.

Any other partnership they have renewed or made new ones that they've been working on, I don't think we will be lacking content across both, thats already a lot to show. The rumoured NFL game... something for Rare's 30th anniversary could be things too. They'll be showing off OS/some third-party too, that will fill 3 hours across both conferences.

I don't get the Banjo hopes and dreams. Didn't Playtonic staff leave Rare to be able to make a platformer? How would a Banjo game being greenlit after the exodus make sense?

The lead designer of Banjo is still at Rare. I had thought Rare are making a new Banjo although I'm less sure now, but I doubt Microsoft/Rare would decide not to make a new one because of Yooka-Laylee. The Playtonic guys left at different times, some more recently than others I think, could just be the stars aligned for them to do it together and own it themselves.

I'm still not sure why it is so outrageous to believe MS bought the Silent Hills IP.

Perhaps it would less outrageous if the rumour didn't suggest they'd be paying a comparable amount to what they paid for Minecraft for a horror series that is barely alive and no-one to develop it. Phil would probably be fired on the spot for suggesting that deal to Satya.

Here we go. The Microsoft has bought everything train has started again. It's a little late this year.

You will probably see Silent Hill iOS/Android game before Konami let's go of the IP.

From Microsoft's perspective, it does not make sense to spend even 50 million buying that IP. It's heydays are behind it.

Entertaining that ridiculous rumour for a moment here, if Microsoft did somehow obtain Silent Hills as an Xbone exclusive, the meltdowns would be off the muthafukkin' charts. A certifiable shitstorm on the scale of the FFXIII betrayalthon. It'd be pretty funny.

No it wouldn't, not even close. The game was wondrously enticing because of Kojima, Reedus, and Del Toro. Those three are no longer involved.

So if MS bought the IP for billions, then they'd be buying a name, not an actual game.

Is Konami worth a billion dollars?

Asking myself the same question. Microsoft paid 375million for RARE when they were still very relevant. Konami Gaming division probably worth around the billion dollars mark

I might be wrong but i didnt made a thread about Silent Hills being 80% complete

Silent Hill deal was in the billions? Yeah, no. The Xbox division would never get that amount sanctioned for Silent Hill of all things. Never. Fake as shit.

If MS spent a billion it would be for a lot more than Silent Hill franchise. No way that franchise alone is worth that much.

Maybe they bought a lot more from Konami. I can see MGS being worth a billion.

Maybe its MGS + Silent Hill for a billion.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

GAF wouldn't make it. The amount of profanity and meltdowns would be historical. I honestly wouldn't be surprised at this point. MS threw down 2.5 billion on Minecraft like it was nothing. Anything is possible.

That still doesn't answer my question though. Why would Rare of today be making a game they were told no which eventually lead to Playtonic being formed and Yooka-Laylee being funded?

Why not make that Banjo game with your talent intact? I'm not really convinced that they're making another Banjo game. At least not in the traditional platformer sense.
