its just internet trolls. Many of us are learning about this as we go. Its no different than a boy asking about the vagina in sex-ed class. Some keep the old parts, some change it up, some choose to keep it private apparently. Just be respectful

That is wrong and very close minded. Imagine, for example, you see someone in the distance - they're blurry and you can't make out your gender, so you refer to them as "them". When they get closer and then you can tell they're a woman, would you not then refer to them as "her"?
I would understand you not understanding it, but point blank refusing to use their preferred pronouns? yes, that's douchey.

I think sometimes people just make honest mistakes because they don't really now about how touchey the pronoun thing can be at times, but when you're aware of it, why not just do it? :/
