Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

No shit. Figure out what you want, GAF. Half the board just spent the last month shitting all over CDPR for not delivering a game on par with their lofty reveal trailer. Now you're up in arms over the reveal for Fallout because it might just be the thing you've supposedly been crying for: a realistic look at what the game will look like when it releases with no B.S.

+1. This trailer looks like the game will look.

There is a middle ground, you know.

Like, there could be an honest display of graphics that looks good. They aren't mutually exclusive things.

No.

But that's not the case here, is it? 4 looks significantly better than 3 and NV and I really don't know how you can deny that.

I think that's a matter of opinion and the reason for such a divide amongst people that think it looks fine vs people that expect more.

I agree it looks better but it's not the improvement that I believe it should have been given their budget/talent/experience.

Probably not the same people.

Also you can't really blame people who wanted a bit more.

These people never get more. They get custom builds ran with sli-titans at 30fps as their first gameplay trailers and scream in the forums how the game looks amazing. Yet when the thing is released its basically a kids drawing of a painting compared to the vertical slice. This thread is absolutely pathetic and a testament that bullshit marketing does seem to condition the gullible.

As someone who spent a lot of time in FO3 and NV when I saw the trailer my jaw dropped on how much of a graphical improvement there was. Also, that doesn't mean anything when it comes to game play, it's too early to tell. However, this constant comparing everything to the Witcher is grating. Comparing the Witcher to the Fallout series is like comparing apples to oranges and not every game has to look, feel, act and be the Witcher.

I do feel for devs.. on the one hand, you can show something that you might not achieve, and you get backlash when the game actually comes out, or you show something more achievable and less impressive and you get the backlash straight away.

I hear you, it's a pretty sad state of affairs. No wonder devs are leaving for greener pastures in mobile. You can bust your ass for years on a project, only to see every rock, crack, speck of dirt and blade of grass scrutinized to hell and back with a microscope before it even releases. It's insane.

Just a guess, but maybe what they want is a game that has a legit reveal trailer AND looks good?

Who wants to talk about more fun things that matter?

I'm thinking a car might happen this time, which would be a pretty cool way to travel. A nice balance between fast travel and walking. Hell, I'd be ok if they get rid of fast travel if they had a car in this game. I hope it's upgradable with blueprints you find in the world, too, and make it like some Twisted Metal monstrosity.

I hope there is a healthy selection of crazy weapons like in the past games. And please have a combat shotgun like the one in F3. I need another Terrible Shotgun.

apparently there was a reddit leak on the game last year. A lot of what was posted is matching up with what we have seen so far.

the leaker states she used to work for Bethesda and was fired hence the revenge leak.

Damn, no one in the comments believed her. OP redeemed.

Sounds pretty plausible. And also at least partly explains why this looks so cross-gen in most ways (NOTE: I said cross-gen, not last-gen). It's because it WAS cross-gen, even if it isn't anymore.

Just give it up, people are going to throw W3 at you and pretend that game doesn't have huge fucking technical problems.

This is one of the craziest threads I've ever been in on GAF.
Most people don't seem to notice the technical flaws in The Witcher 3. Hell, that game was repeatedly nominated in the thread for "which current gen game has the best graphics."

TW3 manages to look pretty damn good though despite the fact that a lot of its individual parts are pretty underwhelming. I'm still amazed they pulled off that kind of scale with consistent polish and detail.

But even in a world where TW3 doesn't exist... a lot of what I saw in that FO4 trailer looked pretty damn bad. My hope is that when it actually looks clean at 4K, it will be passable enough to enjoy roaming around the open world. And I'll hope against hope for someone to mod in AO with something like ENB (or ReShade if the depth buffer is compatible)... though I'm not holding my breath. Especially since Borris doesn't do ENB for DX11 games it seems...

Thought the trailer looked amazing, much better than F3 or NV. Cannot wait to see gameplay at E3, and then dig into it later this year!

At least it better release this year. I am not sure I can take waiting much longer to be honest.

Oh lordy I do believe I have the vapors.

Honestly I am really excited for this game and I hope that it will reach my expectations of how much fun I'll get when playing it.

Well at least their won't be a downgrade backlash.

You never know....

I usually agree with EviLore about the state of the community when it comes to review threads, but now I believe he just tunes out and goes to his happy place when it comes to E3 threads.

It does look a bit 'off' to me, but I think my expectations were in check with it being a Bethesda game and that this is in-game with an unknown release date.

If that's all you give that's what people will look at.

If you want people to consider the story give people something to chew on regarding the story.

If you want people to consider the gameplay give people something to chew on regarding the gameplay.

They hint at those things and lay down an artsy trailer of panning shots and vague quotes. People will, naturally, scrutinize what they are given.

Weird. I thought what people wanted was something that delivered on the lofty trailer, not being honest about how unimpressive it is and then delivering that.

A game with a early trailer that's about as bullshit-free as it gets in regards to misleading vertical slice builds, yet now this forum gets into a uproar. Man, you people are something else.

Its nice they aren't trying to hide how bad the game looks, I agree.

The vertibird and airships in the trailer might suggestion that some kind of travel will be available.

Regarding the graphics POTENTIAL complaints, we might see them during release. The trailer showed very sharp shadows, high polygon count and huge draw distance. We might see a slight downgrade in each aspect.

I am worried the most about the art direction. Fallout 3 in particular had a distinct style of assets and (low-res) textures that gave the vibes of a unique retro-futuristic settings; the grey-green color palette did help in someways. The only place that looked atmospheric and unique was when the death claw appeared in the trailer of F4.

It kinda looked too clean and generic in comparison to F3; it is remarkable that the latter acheived such atmosphere given its ugly LODs, low-res textures and low polygon count that made it look fake in a lot of ways.

ANYWAYS, I am looking forward to playing it. I just can't resist roaming around in an open-world while collecting stuff, getting into dangerous high-level areas, having random encounters/side quests and making various builds/equipment setups (all of that in a post-apocalyptic settings).

you see that dog water bowl

do you see that water bowl

u can mOVE THAT water bowl and put it on someones head

thats why there is no aa or ao and the dog has muddy textures #justified

Maybe it's because I was playing vanilla PC fallout 3 a couple weeks ago but I definitely thought the graphics shown in the trailer looked relatively impressive (I guess that's the keyword, relatively). I've never thought any Bethesda game looked that technically impressive but it was the artistic design that made Fallout 3 so visually interesting to me and it looks like that will carry over into Fallout 4 which has shown a much larger color palette and what looked like good lighting and shadows.

I thought the dog's animations looked pretty good but his fur was the only thing that really stood out to me as looking bad.

The internet would break down shots with red circles highlighting every flaw they could find no matter what kind of footage it was.

To me this thread exemplifies why as gamers we get what we get.

It never became so clear to me as it has with this thread but today's gamer, in general, doesn't deserve honest marketing. We flat out don't.

People seem much more happy being given bullshit vertical slices of games on reveal so they can ooh and ahh and hope the game will release in that state. knowing that it won't.

you release an honest trailer and people will shit on you. In huge numbers because it doesn't look like the bullshot trailers they have come to expect. You be deceptive and make a bullshot trailer and people will come out in droves in aww at first and then you get only a small minority that carries the deserved outrage when the curtain is pulled back to reveal the truth once the hype train starts to roll.

I can't shake my head enough at what I've read here today.

Is it really unreasonable to expect games to look better than previous entries?

But it looks better than the previous entry

My point in comparing other games from this gen is that they set the bar for what to expect, and not in a 1:1 comparing game A to game B style but when most games from this gen look better than F4 that's a reasonable thing to point out.

You are comparing apples vs oranges here, there is a long explanation about dynamic vs static mesh, if you choose to ignore it, well... Free country.

Having good graphics and gameplay are not exclusive and you're upset that I expect better graphics from a modern title, how is that so unreasonable?

Again, I'm not upset...

There was probably plenty of reasons behind Fallout 4 visual fidelity, engine, budget, schedule, number of dynamic objects, etc etc...

You can arbitrarily be upset for it not "being good enough for you", but I would rather try to understand the why, instead of throwing a tantrum.

I'm really looking forward to it too. I enjoyed FO3, and FO:NV was even better. I need to get around to playing 1&2 now that I have them installed and updated with the recommended mods.

I liked what I'm assuming are the prologue parts of the game shown in the trailer. Hopefully we can experience that part of the story, maybe a mad, frantic dash to get to the vault.

People still haven't adjusted to the fact that this generation is not a normal generational leap in terms of graphical horsepower with having to jump to 1080p. Its getting old. This gen is underpowered for 1080p, games aren't going to look as good as we normally expect for a new gen and after eight years of the previous gen. Just deal with it.

The game looks great for an open world title and more cartoony look should fit Fallout just fine.

Agreed.

Its like a bunch of spoilt children up in this thread.

Its nice they aren't trying to hide how bad the game looks, I agree.

This is how an actual game looks like during development. How surprising that it's different from a million dollar custom trailer aimed solely to hype the game with no intention of delivering.

One noticeable thing in the trailer is the Dad looking at his child in the crib looks very similar to the MC at the end of the trailer. Maybe its a story of the dad's struggle after he looses his family.

The leaker also says that you can get a sex change after the story ends and there may be female MC dlcs.

Even though I usually play as a guy in games when given the choice (Saint's Row 2-4 being the main exception), no gender choice for the main game would be kind of shitty. If it makes for a better story or something then I guess it's not the end of the world. But the odds of Bethesda coming up with a good enough story to justify the change are low.

People are seriously comparing Fallout and Witcher in this thread. The fuck guys. Two entirely different RPGS with different philosophy's going on.

Visuals still look very similar to Gamebryo to me, just with light shafts everywhere. Whatever, F3 and NV were graphically shit as well and those were my favorite games last gen. Hyped.

That is not what I said at all...

Sure it was. You basically said "play something else if you don't like it" because I pointed out that dynamic pots and pans weren't a good reason for limiting the potential of the game, as you implied. I mean you said it nicer than that but that was the message all the same.
