Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

No haha. No reason to switch to using motion.

Well, there are, I've explained them, yet you seem to think not caring about that is a valid response. Being able to position your character without using a thumb, which can then be used to do other things has many benefits. If you don't see that, then that's on you.

I usually only use Y at the start of the match. I hold the gamepad up to the most comfy position then press Y to center.

I did let a friend play it for a while and he was swinging the gamepad around like crazy. He is a gamer but he was playing the game like someone new to driving games, moving his whole body around when he wanted to swerve one direction or the other.

The non-motion controls are actually more fluid, because you use the same thing you use to turn. Less parts for better aiming!

You also don't need to fix them when they constantly break lol

The motion controls allow significantly more fluid, precise, and quick motions than a joystick ever could. They actually make camera movements close to the precision and the speed of a mouse possible.

That doesn't add any advantage though. You can do everything you can with two sticks that you can with the gyros, and it requires less interfaces to boot, making everything more fluid than gyros could hope to be. You have to get a good feel for moving your thumb carefully, but that's about it. I guess gyros could be better for people completely new to the genre for the reasons you're saying?

This actually isn't true, assuming you know how to use the motion controls. Two sticks don't allow twitch aiming, or anything close to a mouse. The advantage really is significant.

Wait so you're saying me being able to keep my eyes on a kraken while evading in multiple directions isn't a benefit? With just a stick, whatever direction you go is what you see. With motion I can rotate my character and my camera in opposite ways, allowing me many more options to get out of danger. Lol new to the genre, have fun with your inferior controls.

Motion controls has more range of "analog" motion than a thumbstick. I can go from targeting the far left end of my vision then to the far right faster than you can on your thumbstick unless we're comparing different sensitivity levels.

I use motion and I like it, but it does break every so often for me when things get hectic. I have ended up facing 90 degrees away from the TV.

I should probably play the single player.

That shouldn't ever happen, hah. How do you end up this way?

You can most certainly use twitch aiming haha. You just need to practice.

Err... Have you ever played without the gyro? Because you can do this haha. What are you even talking about?

Edit: just re-read your post. You know I'm arguing in favor of not using motion controls, right? I think we're agreeing with each other haha

Turn up your sensitivity, use the Y buttton more, but that shouldn't ever happen unless you're swinging the controller around.

Guess we know where all the Japanese people are coming from. :D

And hopefully some decent sales in the US too.

Like I said, small motions with it in your lap, it's not designed for huge movements

Sometime I'm doing super good with it and sometime I'm super awful.
But I'm a fan.
Yeah, it doesn't matter how the game is going. It's just fun. And for me, the flick feels like the closest I'm gonna get to a shotgun-like blast.
Krak-ing up in front of someone is the best feeling ever, even if you don't like the roller at all.
I -love- doing this after someone pops the echolocator, you can almost plan a line who you are going to sneak up on and flop all over. All the folks use the NZAP right now are my personal heroes.
Only started to use it, love the sprinkler.
I almost want to use the dynamo solely for that. I've seen sprinklers put in some devilish places today. The shorter flick and slower run speed with the roller down, though, is a high cost. :[

Just played it for the first time. I thought I'd get used to the controls, but they're pretty awful. Turn speed is too slow and I keep pointing in the wrong direction with motion controls. What is everyone using for setting?

Go to options, turn off motion controls, set Y axis to inverted, set sensitivity down to -3.5, there you go. Splatoon is controllable now.

What? Twitch movements have nothing to do with practice, but with the sensitivity of the device you're using to move the camera with. It's literally impossible to do a twitch movement like you can with a mouse (or gyro controls or pointer controls) with sticks.

You just turn up the sensitivity, which requires practice to use well.

Inkredible! Do we know any worldwide numbers yet?

You just turn up the sensitivity, which requires practice to use well.

You can turn up the sensitivity, yes, but then that reduces the amount of finesse on the slower end of the scale when it comes to camera movement. And even then mouse (or gyro controls) still allow greater precision, technologically. They still also allow greater speed, period.

Finally got a set of clothing I'm happy with
CmsiAHz.png

Shame I rolled bad abilities on almost every slot. Really need ink saver main or special charge up on the N-Zapper but I just got a bunch of special duration up instead.

Exactly the look I'm going for! Down to the eye colours of the inkling.

The shirt main stat sucks though. Too bad cuz it's the best looking shirt I've seen so far.

That shouldn't ever happen, hah. How do you end up this way?

A combination of switching between sitting and standing, messing around with my toddler son and getting chased by rollers.

Never going to switch to analog sticks though. Seems way to harder to me.

I have never enjoyed online multiplayer so much. I am SOOOOOOOO glad that voicechat isn't here because not only is the matchmaking good, but I don't have to listen to 12 year olds calling me "faggot!" every three seconds and saying they'd beat me up if they knew me in real life.

Game is so much fun with the ability to just play and smile :)

This just factually isn't true haha

The only time I use it is when I start the game in different positions than the last time, like leaning back in a chair instead of sitting up straight or holding the gamepad at an angle instead of right at the TV

Ya it's good for setting the default position before the match, hate using in match. Pity it's the only way to quick turn... they should make L3 do quickturn.
