Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

They've used Gamebryo (or a modified version of it) exclusively since 1999. Of course it's Gamebryo. That doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be buggy, though. The engine gets blamed when Bethesda's QA is really to blame. (Although I'm sure that QA is really tough for the kind of big, complex games they make.)

Gamebryo isn't the problem here, this is true.

It's Bethesda + Gamebryo where it goes to total shit.

I mean, Catherine was on Gamebryo, RIFT was on Gamebryo, EL FUCKING SHADDAI: ASCENSION OF THE METATRON was gamebryo.

If it was a different engine, Bethesda would still be lazy.

Oblivion was some kind of graphic monster when it was announced. Skyrim looked realy great for its time. So what are you talking about?

Yeah, oblivions first playable unveiling was using a lot of complex graphical effects (which were subsequently removed from the game btw).

It's a bethesda game so we already know it's going to play like shit.

In what universe did Skyrim look great for its time?

The least we could do is just wait and see. Its a new console gen and this is their first offering so although you may be right, at the same time things might have changed. We'll know once its here though

I feel like you have a strong opinion about one of these games. :3

"It looks fine. It may not be Witcher/Order pretty but I feel like we all overlooking the main thing that has been suffering in games lately, and that's the QUALITY."

are you implying that witcher 3 doesn't have quality gameplay, world building, and story telling?

witcher 3 has it all, but for some reason fallout 4 should be excused from having poor graphics and bad animations?

I have a feeling a lot of peoples opinions are going to change after we see the game in action at E3
Feel the same way. And its good that Bethesda got out in front of the "gfx" whiners, so they won't deal with double backlash with actual downgrades.

I think we'll be passed this stage of moaning, once more footage of story/gameplay are out and about.

I think the issue is the huge size of these games and amount of content. As long as there's no quest that crashes the game I'm fine.

No matter how you put it. This game looks horrible.

I smirked at first, but the Witcher 3 downgrade arguments in here and nowhere else thread was a smashing success at keeping the 'OCD pixel-counters' and 'sour-grapes no matter what' Gaf contingent corralled in a single space.

I'd love to see a Fallout 4 version to keep the hyperbolic s**t-slinging isolated to a single space where they can tear themselves to shreds while everyone else can discuss the game in an (ironically) non-toxic environment.

On a technical level I can see why you'd say that, but even then I'd say "horrible" is going pretty overboard. But aesthetically I'd say it looks great.

I agree with that. For me personally, graphics are huge part of immersion. Witcher 3 is like one of the few games where I genuinely felt like I was in a forest. This is something that I am unhappy with F4. It might not deliver on that.

I thought the pre-war segment had some good animations. Sure it's not great but it's a step up from their previous efforts.

In what universe did Skyrim look great for its time?
I my universe, but I can see from this thread that there are others who really didn't think so.

I played Skyrim on PC so I probably had any official HD texture packs, but it was glorious.

Fallout 3 I played on the 360 and while I thought it looked pretty good it never wowed me on that level. It was moody though, and filled with danger and side stories.

Looks good to me, I'm kinda glad that they are still using the old engine, meand it's guaranteed that there will be tons of molding for it.

RIFT always ran like fucking garbage for me unless I kept to myself in a forest somewhere, which was real rough considering FFXIV on high ran above 30 frames, sometimes it even hit 60.
So Gamebryo has never given me the impression it's ever really optimized, but yes it gets even rougher when in Bethesda's hands.

In what universe did Skyrim look great for its time?
In a universe not blatantly biased by negativity I would say.

I don't get the complaining. Skyrim was the most immersive game for me personally and it wasn't anything revolutionary from a visual standpoint. Seriously, trust Todd Howard and his team.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get excited for this. I've watched the trailer a handful of times now and yesterday I would have said there was no game I'm more excited for than this, but that trailer just deflated my hype entirely. It's not just the visuals, it's something not quantifiable, idk.

I'm hoping their actual E3 presentation changes my opinion but right now I feel thoroughly deflated. Skyrim never did this for me. Every single piece of Skyrim media reduced me to a frothing mass of hype. And I didn't even get into Oblivion back in the day! But when they showed off and talked about Skyrim, it just seemed like it was two steps ahead of everything else in the industry. This makes me feel like Fallout 4 is one step behind.

BUT I'M PROBABLY WRONG AND IT WILL BE MY GOTY LIKE EVERY OTHER BETHESDA GAME. So nobody freak out on me. It's just how this reveal left me feeling.

Am I allowed to say the player character works for vault-tec before the nukes drop and gets cryo frozen?

I guess I just said it.

I'm not implying that at all. I'm saying that people are complaining about how "bad" Fallout looks. I used Witcher/Order in the example to point out yes, it doesn't look like those games. Not all games have suffered from bad quality but it IS a recurring theme. But the thing people should focus on is the quality cause that is the MAIN thing we have been getting screwed over on lately. People here act like Fallout looks like a PSOne game or something.

And when I say "quality" I mean how well the game runs, fps drops or stable, glitches, bugs, online issues, etc. with/without the need for constant or major patches

If at any point during that presentation we see the world freeze for a character to poorly gab at you, or a loading screen upon entering a small building, then we're going to see some opinions change all right.

If the engine is as small of a leap forward as the IQ is then I really think hype could plummet. Janky animations, horrible uncanny valley NPCs with that weird face zoom during dialog and loading screens for each little area etc. just can't happen again.

How else do you survive 200 years? I guess the story this time is that you're one of the only people who was alive before the nukes dropped and that'll be a whole thing that makes your character different to everyone else.

GTA V and Ground Zeroes came out five and six years after Fallout 3, respectively. Tools had improved substantially during that time. That's like comparing Condemned to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory--absurd.

In that case it's even more absurd to compare Fallout 4 to Fallout 3 and claim that's proof FO4 doesn't look last-gen.

I agree. For a game that would have started development before the specs for these consoles were even known to the devs I think it looks great. I think the art style and environmental detail more than make up for the fact that it doesn't look so hot technically.

The same can be said for other open world games that came out that look better .
The had a extra year and half with system with final specs .
So that don't really mean anything .

You're also looking for your family, who weren't in their pods when you woke up. The entire vault you were in was people who were frozen.

That's certainly weird, my first impression when playing RIFT was "holy shit an open world gamebryo game that runs good and has very little in terms of bugs".

Though it did notoriously have some AMD/ATI issues, I get about the same FPS in FFXIV on high and I was able to run RIFT flawlessly, so maybe it was just poorly optimized for hardware.

The graphics doesn't worry me, because they nailed again the fallout atmosphere from the older games. I hope that world is huge and full of content, since the graphics aren't super impressive.

I wonder how much of the game takes place before the nukes drop. Think that'd be just the intro? Or could there be a reason to flip between the two eras?

I'm surprised that so many people are focusing on the graphics and not the awful animations that seem to be present in yet another Bethesda title. I hoped and prayed that this game would have some decent animations, but it looks like we're doomed to play in a world where everyone has stiff joints. Even the dogs. :(

I'm expecting flashbacks throughout the game with the main character being a semi-amnesiac searching for his family.

Something like that.

Who cares how it looks? Even when fallout 3 came out it looked pretty average. I don't think people play any fallout games because of how they look.
