Stella has been removed from FFXV; Itamuro writing game; Demo 2 June 9; FFXV not @ E3

I don't really get this. Why change the character? I'm not invested in either character and never was, but it's so strange. "We changed this female character into a very similar character and with almost the same name". Why not, you know, leave it as it was?

Because they didn't change her into a similar character? It's right in the OP, they re-wrote her whole arc and story. Different character, different name.

Especially when a lot of the characterization for Stella that's been released to public are in scenes/sequences of events that are no longer in Final Fantasy XV e.g. Niflheim crashing the party where Stella and Noctis were.

They literally ripped a character with as much story importance as Noctis right out of the game. I wouldn't say they are not "big changes".

Everything changed from VsXIII. The character designs from Nomura only have a face designed by him now (the clothes are from Roenn), the story changed (and the scriptwriter changed along with it), the director changed, the gameplay changed (drastically), the team changed. Heck, the engine they're making the game on is not even finished.

What is left of Versus now? Shimomura?
agree, but other people insisted these weren't meaningful changes and the game was still going to be relatively intact from the first days of Versus.
They followed development closer than i sooo

i guess you could view the glass half full or half empty.

Many Kingdom Hearts staff are still working on FFXV from the Versus days, but they've added some new staff from XIII/XIV.

This is the biggest thing I'm taking away from this.

I've lost a lot of interest in FFXV as a lot of what I was interested in from the versus reveal seems to have already been removed / changed. FFXIII is the only FF that I sold and I didn't even bother with FFXIII-2 and LR...but I'm still a fan of the Kingdom Hearts series.

By now we should have had BBS2 and KH3 but the staff keep getting drafted onto shitty FF projects.

I remember duckroll mentioning the dialog in Dissidia was horrible:

"The script writer who worked on Dissidia Final Fantasy is working on FFXV."

.... On one hand I don't see how the dialogue in Dissidia could've been anything but horrible, On the other, they managed to floor me with how terrible the dialogue in the PSP dissidias despite having that in mind.

*sigh*

So, they removed a character and put another one in her place.

Why that? Just to be sure to remove as many of Nomura characters as possible or what?

That's not how I interpreted it. It seemed he was implying that Kingdom Hearts had better storytelling than Type-0.
I suppose I needed to add more words.

My statement is that FF15 will be a story handed from one arse writer/conceptor to another arse writer/conceptor. From the Vs13 days I wasn't very optimistic about Vs13 having a good story at all, despite those who crowed about the appeal of the setting. So I don't think that this story is 'ruined' now. I think the story was likely to be mediocre to begin with.

I made a comment to a friend of mine earlier this year. That of notable JRPGs upcoming and out, Xenoblade Chronicles will have best world and exploration, FF15 will have the best gameplay, and Persona 5 will have the best story. I'll have to amend that to FF15 having the best graphics, and Star Ocean 5 having the best gameplay. lol

I dont know WHY they decided to jump into feedback loops this late in the game

I realize they are trying to adjust to Demo critics but there has to be a point where you just make the damn game

But the original Kingdom Hearts Staff didn't do BBS it was the Osaka team and there working on KH 3.

And here I thought they would end up being sisters. Smh :/

I was always under the impression she got renamed or rebooted.. Well she got rebooted.

Why are they making changes this big so late into development? I thought they were just brought in to finish up Nomura's project.

I don't think we'll be seeing many more KH game from that team. I doubt anyone but the Osaka team will make them now. Specially if Nomura does leave SE after all the stuff with XV...

*sigh*

Read the thread, Dissidia's script writer isn't writing XV

When the game was first announced it was presented with a serious Shakespearean style story that took itself very seriously. I feel like the game we're finally going to get will be a lot of fan service with a fluff story and world building.

I honestly hope I'm wrong but I have little confidence.

It's messed up. FF used to be my absolute favorite series from SNES through PS2.

FFXII put a crack in the armor. I loved the gambits and offline mmo world exploration and combat. The story was bland and suffered though. After hearing that the main character was changed from Basch to Vaan, the story was supposed to be darker, and the guy heading the project left or was replaced mid development, I understand how the game's story and direction could fall short.

Then came FFXIII and ripped a huge ass hole in that FF armor.

The original release of FFXIV snuck me and held me in place for what was coming next.

Now the deathblow. Finally comes FFXV and its development trials and changes, seemingly here to finish off my enthusiasm for the series.

I hold out small hope for this game, because of the amazing turn around of FFXIV ARR that I hear about. But right now, FFXV reeks of a game that would have been canceled if it were any other name. And so much time, money, and effort has been put in it, so they may as well release it to help recoup a bit of the costs.

I don't want to naysay, but I'm keeping my expectations for this game in check. If SE is concerned that canceling this game to start fresh will do major damage to the FF name, then I hope they realize what releasing a stinker will do to it.

Exactly.

i Agree with everything you said about the past games (FFXII making me the saddest due to how damaging a simple protagonist change can be), but I still hold out hope for this game.

I mean, the game isn't out yet, and until it is there is still a chance it could be good. I know, our standards have dropped severely that we are just hoping for a "good" FF game. But after FFXIII and its sequels.... yep, just please be good.

Why are they making changes this big so late into development? I thought they were just brought in to finish up Nomura's project.

Nomura project would have took forever.

And this stuff either changed over the 8 years or a bit after Tabata and his team joined on.

Why are they making changes this big so late into development? I thought they were just brought in to finish up Nomura's project.

It would make sense if they wouldn't kick out the person whose project they were supposed to be brushing up.

Why are they making changes this big so late into development? I thought they were just brought in to finish up Nomura's project.

Because its pretty much only been in full development since 2011, then they switched in 2012 to just PS4 and Xbone, where Tabata was made co director, so its probably a big possibility that Nomura could have known of some of these changes before him leaving. So it wasn't a matter of finishing up.

This was always at the back of my mind as well. No offence to the Osaka team, but I really would've liked to see the original band get back together for the 3rd entry, asides from KH2FM's combat just being that much more superior to the later entries.

I dont know WHY they decided to jump into feedback loops this late in the game

I realize they are trying to adjust to Demo critics but there has to be a point where you just make the damn game

The feedback was nothing but a smokescreen to make it seem like they actually hearing fans out when in reality all these changes have been planned internally.

I understand that they want to implement feedback. but at some point they've got to just finalize their concepts and finish the thing, for better or worse.

I dont know how they are going to make any money on this game at this point

They aren't. They 100% aren't.

And you know how Japanese developers are, they usually make engines and assets per game and then completely remake them for the next game.

If this game doesn't have a sequel, it will probably be a huge financial disappointment :(

I mean, it's VERY obvious that they don't want to keep dealing with this messed up game so they are going to release it soon and then move on without all this baggage.

A shame, this was one of my most anticipated games since the announcement of the Fabulla Nova Crystallis thing...

Still reserving my judgement of the game until it actually comes out.

Which you know, Duke Nukem eventually was released, this will be too. Right?

I had more faith in Nomura and what he seemed to be going for, and I'm really disappointed that I'm not going to get that. Honestly though, I understand that even if what *I* personally wanted from his vision was possible, making the entirety of his vision while still meeting budgetary constraints and FF production values just wasn't viable for SE. I do respect how practical Tabata seems to be and I have faith in him to make a good game. It's just sad to me because now I do not at all think that the final product will hold anywhere near the same significance or value to me as what I thought I was going to get just a year ago.

Because they didn't change her into a similar character? It's right in the OP, they re-wrote her whole arc and story. Different character, different name.

If you didn't watch the video, it's internally decided that her role in the story doesn't make any sense with the new changes to the script, that is why.

It still doesn't explain the slight change in name and look. The story changed? So what?

The biggest disappointment is that the whole 'road trip theme' seems to be the entirety of the game now; I loved the 2011 stuff and everything before that. And now they cut another female character or at least redesign her + give her an entirely new purpose.

The staff having FF13/14 members now doesn't make things better tbh. I'll wait for the next trailer but damn if this short ATR didn't damper a lot of my excitement for XV. Nomura's vision shown in the first trailers is what made me interested in the first place.

Doesnt really sound like we're getting nomura's original vision anymore. Also getting the writers from dissidia? Yikes, if I was them I wouldnt have said dissidia, woulsve mentioned a different game they worked on but the story in dissidia is hot garbage

Rejig my memory, was Stella in the E3 '13 trailer?

Sad to see her go either way; I prefered her design to this new chick who's taken her place. Good lord, the development cycle of this game must be such a nightmare for all who are involved. What a shambles.

FFXV will literally be Itamuro's first full writing credit. There was nothing else.

We assumed she was, but she was never mentioned by name IIRC.

So, since she was rebooted as Lunafreya, we can assume that was just Luna in the trailer.

People either had a waifu-complex and Frumix's idea rested on baseless presupositions about Luna being a damsel in distress, when we don't know anything about her.

Yeah, people are throwing a fit for nothing.

I don't see any waifu complexes here. People are taking about the characters based off what we've seen of them, nothing more nothing less. Stella was presented as a rival to Noctis with a power similar to him in trailers. Luna is sitting and waiting for him. Some people simply preferred the character who provided something cool and now everything surrounding it is scrapped.

This was always at the back of my mind as well. No offence to the Osaka team, but I really would've liked to see the original band get back together for the 3rd entry, asides from KH2FM's combat just being that much more superior to the later entries.

KH3 is still ages away, no doubt they'll be moving the rest of the KH staffers to finish it off, after they've wrapped up XV.

Why are they making changes this big so late into development? I thought they were just brought in to finish up Nomura's project.

Kagari said she'd already known about this for 9 months on the first page, so it's likely that these changes were already made and in place from before the game was officially rebranded to FFXV.

It's just that they didn't really see the need to document all of the changes to a game fans know little about like an MMO changelog until after they released the demo and sought feedback.

IMO they should consider this obligation settled and save the rest of the information leading up to ship date to trailers and promo materials. Thank you fans, you've been a big help, but we're not going to let you write the story for us.

And considering Nomura wrote Kingdom Hearts' "Chi-blade" nonsense, the new writer seems to have done fine in the demo.

An updated demo is a smokescreen?

Seems like a expensive and distracting smokesrceen to me

According to kagari the supposed changes have been known. Please remember that the demo was rushed out and the car was cut in the process, initially the demo was meant for summer release but you know gotta sell type-0 copies somehow.. And fans patience is running thin these days so delaying the demo was not an option, either way Tabata was and co were screwed from the get-go.
