Sure. We can only hope that the new season inspires people to check out the previous 9 on Netflix. They've got a few months to get caught up. Why ruin the surprise for them?
Because that's not how we handle TV show spoilers? Once its aired it's fair game, especially in a thread about a upcoming season. I could understand if it's a thread not about the show but come on there's a limit on old TV shows.

My best friend's sister is the hugest X Files fan, probably in the world. No kidding. She heard about this and is planning on throwing a party to watch it. I was never a big fan of the show but I really liked the movie. I think they're both great actors and am surprised they didn't go on to star in huge films. Though I guess Duchovny had an issue with alcohol and sex addiction so I understand why he didn't: content to just spend his money and plow through Hollywood.

Putting in spoilers just in case people in this thread are going on media blackout,, but classic X-files episode may be getting a sequel in the upcoming season 10:
Home Again from the same writer as "Home".

That's surprising news.

I want another "Pusher" episode, or something that matches the caliber of Gilligan's best episodes.

Darin Morgan is still on board, right? I'm sure his episode is going to be amazing.

I wonder if the new season will touch on Scully's immortality.

I think it might be best just to leave it alone at this point but it's always been an intriguing little plot point that's been mentioned in passing.

Refresh my memory on this one. Where did that come from? I have no memory of it at all.

Wow. Hannibal S3 just premiered, Gilly's hair turned red, and Streetcar is headed to NYC. All within 24 hours. I am dead.

It first came up with Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, where he says that he can't see her ever dying. And is further followed up on when she investigates the photographer that says that he can't die because death came for him and then got someone else. She gets shot by Doggett and then at the last minute the photographer takes her place, which might make her immortal like he was.

is there a must watch episode list post season 5? i can never get past season 6...i'd just like to pick up the main episodes to catch up to this...

The mythology episodes are noted on the Wikipedia page, I think ("Episodes marked with a double dagger (double-dagger) are episodes in the series' Alien Mythology arc").

Honestly, I would give Season 6 and 7 a chance. They both have some superb standalone episodes:

Season 6:
- "Drive" (Vince Gillian and Bryan Cranston's first collaboration)
- "Dreamland I" and "Dreamland II"
- "How The Ghosts Stole Christmas,"
- "Monday" (It's amazing -- another great one from Vince Gilligan [and John Shiban])
- "Arcadia" (A favourite among many fans -- a very, very fun episode)
- "Milagro"
- "The Unnatural"
- "Field Trip" (Yet another Shiban and Gilligan masterstroke -- this episode is tremendous!)

Season 7:
- "Hungry" (Did I mention that Vince Gilligan's contributions to this show are incredible? This is another example of his considerable talents)
- "Rush"
- "The Goldberg Variation"
- "The Amazing Maleeni"
- "X-Cops"
- "En Ami"
- "Hollywood A.D."
- "Je Souhaite" (Gilligan!)

I'm listing all of these standalone episodes to argue that you'd really be doing yourself a disservice by sticking only to the mythology episodes to prepare yourself for the new season. An embarrassment of riches lies outside the strictures of the mythology, as exciting as that aspect of the show can be, and this shouldn't ignored! You'd be missing out on so much greatness. Seriously.

There's lots of good mythology-centric episodes, as well: "Two Fathers" and "One Son" from Season 6 are major, and "Sein und Zeit" and the rather excellent "Closure" are very important as far Mulder and Samantha are concerned. You should watch all of the mythology episodes, but definitely make room for the standalone gems.

Mythology episodes were easily the worst part of the show after a certain point. If you you are gunna just watch those you might as well just watch everything or you will be missing out on lots of good stuff. Supercollider you forgot triangle I remember that one being great.

i meant best as in general best...doesn't have to be mythology...but i'd wanna be up to date on that front. it seemed like after the awesome season 5 finale...they just totally ignored everything that happened in the main story arc. so weird!

If I remember correctly wasn't the series supposed to last only 5 seasons or something?

The Season 6 premiere picks up where the Season 5 finale left off, though.

Have high hopes for this. Anything will be better than the garbage that was "I Want To Believe". I'm glad that's not the last memory I'll have of M&S.

Do people generally put season 6 on the level of 7-9?

I think 6 was the last consistent season, and then 7 is where it kind of went off the rails, though even til the ends there was still good stuff

I may be in the minority but I put season 8 really high. It had the most mythology episodes and I felt the were fairly strong (if confusing to me). Plus that season 8 finale was pretty intense when I was young. I'd say it was above 7 and on par with 6.

Season 9 I hardly remember and was fairly bored with the show at that point. Looking forward to a re-watch.

I need to watch the series all the way through before this airs in January. I used to watch it almost every weeknight for 2-3 years when I was in Middle school as it'd always be on at 11 PM, I'd watch it before I went to bed. I never have sat down and just watched it, and I haven't seen the whole entire show, any of the episodes with context of what season they were in, and I haven't seen any of the series at all in years.

I've secretly been holding out for them to maybe one-day release those HD-versions they have of the episodes, but fuck it, going to have to try to watch all 200 episodes and the movies before January comes around.

First Dragonball Z is coming out with a new series (Dragonball Super), Full House is returning with a new show, now this.....the 90's (My favorite decade) has officially returned!

The entire run in widescreen HD is now up on US Netflix. If you're outside the US you can use a DNS spoofing service like unblock-us or a browser extension like Hola to access it.

Some alien mythology and some monster of the week has been confirmed. So both!

I wonder what the breakdown will be. Premiere will be mythology. A two parter, maybe? If so, there's the first two. Then 3, 4 and 5 are standalone, and the finale is a mythology episode. Or they could end it on a standalone and use the penultimate episode for the last mythology story.

By the way, this is obvious, but we might get more if this is successful, so this isn't necessarily going to be a tidy wrapping up of the series' loose threads.

Wait, it is!? Why did no one tell me? When did this happen? o.o Last I checked several months ago people were hoping one day Fox would release these.

Well it pushes my intent to watch the whole series before January, certainly.

Have you guys watched the remastered X-Files on netflix?

The quality is superb. A lot of it looks like it could've been shot yesterday. It's uncanny watching this show in crystal clear high definition. It's very strange watching a 90s show like this. It's kind of like viewing those recolorized pictures of World War I - you normally think of that war in terms of black and white, and it becomes weird when you see it as it really was for the first time.

edit: I can count the freckles on scully now

OMG! That's my childhood and tween years right here! I can't believe there is gonna be a new season I remember watching this show as a child and being so afraid yet so mesmerized by it.

I can't wait for the new season, please be good!
