Dark Souls III leaked info and screenshots [RUMOR - Better Details Write-Up]

Is everyone ready for even more of this game? Idk, From has a strong formula but these games don't seem as special anymore with how prolific they're becoming.

Absolutely. Especially considering that it would be out like late 2016 or something. That's a long ways off still, plenty of time for the Souls hunger to grow even more.

DS2 team with Miyazaki in charge would be the best guess while Bloodborne team is doing the expansion.

Personnel and numbers will change as games reach certain stages in development. My guess is that there is a lot more overlap between the different games than people assume, it's not an A team/B team thing, though I don't know that bit for sure.

Something to consider with the seemingly small number of enemies and bosses.

If its true they all transform during the "eclipse" thats a ton of work to create unique fighting patterns and animations for each. Its entirely possible From decided to focus on quality since they were making 2 creatures for every 1.

So uh, what's going on in this shot exactly? Is that black thing a humanity sprite?

Also bloodstains on your armour :D!
That reads a lot like a feature list of some press materials that says things like "New Weapons, New Armor, New Anything" in some games.

Don't necessarily mean that they are going to use past enemies or bosses.

EDIT: Wait, what is that black mass? Is he... absorbing it? or a gesture and that is a defeated enemied? Eeeeeek

I wonder what engine will they use for this game BB/DS1's? or DS2's?

Around 12 new areas and 15 new bosses sounds quite a lot smaller in scope than the previous Dark Souls games. But since a lot of people have been having issues with quantity over quality with the Dark Souls games this may have been a good idea.

If it means better and more detailed area designs then it's good news for me.

Wouldn't it be neat if the "eclipse" version of the world was ng+?

You play the game through, beat the final boss and get a bad ending. Then play through the levels again maybe in a different order with different enemy placements and new bosses. Then fight the true final boss at the end and get the true ending.

Its probably a world tendencyish system though.

I'm sure there are plenty who would love a souls game each year. Don't think I'm one of them (Though this year I stand to play up to 3 - DeS, DaS and maybe Bloodborne). Even the best of games can get tiring. If it does become a yearly thing, i'll probably just stick to the ones Miyazaki directs.

I've changed my mind. This may not be Bloodborne DLC and is in fact Dark Souls 3.

2009 - Demon Souls
2011 - Dark Souls
2014 - Dark Souls II
2016 - Dark Souls 3

2.5 year development time seems reasonable for a biannual release. Bloodborne was a different team was it not?

Yeah it kinda reminded me of Shadow of the Colossus with absorbing a black goopy mess like that. That weird graphical effect with the smoky pillars rising upwards all around him makes me think it's not just a death animation

And Raining Blood (*riff, riff*) after presumably defeating a boss!

I now want a comical amount of blood exploding out of defeated bosses

I think it may look like BB insight mechanic. During "eclipse" some enemies/bosses will have additional moveset.

I wonder if it's gonna be all of the best ideas from Demons, Dark 1 2 and Bloodborne all rolled into one masterpiece

If you are going to include DeS then might as well include Bloodborne. DS1 team was on Bloodborne I believe.

DeS-Miyazaki's Team(Probably has fewest overlap because it was codeveloped W/JapanStudio and is the first game)

DaS-Miyazaki's Team

DaS2-Tanimura's Team

BB-Miyazaki's Team(Again CoDeveloped)

Ds3-Miyazaki Directing with a mix of OG Souls coders and Ds2 coders as well?

Man I hope they don't delay the pc version again. At least Souls 2 came out not too much later.

I'll have to see the screens when I get home because work wi-fi sucks.

Very exciting news this morning. Hopefully the PC port is a sure thing and the PC release date is not long after the console one.

Only concept art, but the engraving on those stones is in Hebrew.
It's hard to make out the text, I think it says something about the place being a tomb, some woman being buried there, possibly something about god? not sure.
Probably has 0 importance overall.

Hebrew? In Dark Souls? Isn't that a little strange

I guess if Dark Souls III is 2016 and not 2017, would it be fair to say Bloodborne's expansion might be late 2015? I wonder if the overlap between Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and Bloodborne's release impacted the former, especially on Sony's ecosystem.

There's a lot engineer overlap in Dark Souls 2 and BB credits, and some design and art overlap as well if I remember right.

Artists will sometimes Google "ancient scripture" or "ancient engravings" or something of that nature when creating textures of relatively minimal importance for those sorts of things. Not as if you're going to go Full Tolkien and make up your own fantasy language for a throwaway texture on some tombstone or sepulcher wall.

Did Bamco ever disclose how much PC version of DS2 sold?

I don't trust that Ars Technica guesstimation technique.
That's silly.

"That Ars Technica guesstimation technique" has fit with every single disclosure by any developer which I have seen, and also perfectly matches with press releases at particular sales milestones for larger titles. It's the best ownership information we have on any platform.

I don't see why some of you guys think its too early for From Software to be working on a new game so soon.

- Dark Souls releases Fall 2011
- Dark Souls: Prepare to Die (PC version) and Artorias of the Abyss DLC release Summer 2012
- Dark Souls II starts development sometime in 2012 (maybe even late 2011?)
- Bloodborne also starts development in 2012
- Dark Souls II releases Spring 2014
- Dark Souls II DLC releases Summer 2014
- Bloodborne releases Spring 2015
- Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin releases Spring 2015

We know Bloodborne is a collaboration between From Software and Japan Studio. I don't know if anyone has gone through the credits to see how many people work for each dev, but I'm guessing the game was mostly done with Japan Studio's people and then Miyazaki and some key From Software people assisting/leading. Japan Studio does get credited first upon booting the game. So this possibly leaves most of From Software's staff working on Dark Souls II without Miyazaki for 2 years. Then, around the time of release for DS2, a smaller team works on the DLC and later another team works on Scholars of the First Sin. Since Bloodborne was in development for about 3 years, it's possible Miyazaki finished most of his work on the game a year ago while the rest of the team optimized the game for the PS4, fixed bugs, and tweaked things until release. I don't see any reason why From Software couldn't have started development on Dark Souls III in Spring or Summer 2014. A release for sometime in 2016 would give the game 2 years of development, which is all Dark Souls II had. [Edit] Oh, and the Bloodborne DLC is probably being done by Japan Studio with maybe some From Software guys assisting.

I think people like to think of the A Team and B Team as From Software split in halves working on 2 games, but really I think its more likely just a small group of people leading each project. The A Team, including Miyazaki, just went over to Japan Studio to work on Bloodborne, while the B Team was made in their absence to work on Dark Souls II.

Yeah the timeline works out. Miyazaki could have finished his portion of work on Bloodborne a year ago and been working on this.

okay fine D:

People are saying 950k according to steamspy I think.
Wow... that would make it THE platform for Souls.
