I don't see why some of you guys think its too early for From Software to be working on a new game so soon.
- Dark Souls releases Fall 2011
- Dark Souls: Prepare to Die (PC version) and Artorias of the Abyss DLC release Summer 2012
- Dark Souls II starts development sometime in 2012 (maybe even late 2011?)
- Bloodborne also starts development in 2012
- Dark Souls II releases Spring 2014
- Dark Souls II DLC releases Summer 2014
- Bloodborne releases Spring 2015
- Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin releases Spring 2015
We know Bloodborne is a collaboration between From Software and Japan Studio. I don't know if anyone has gone through the credits to see how many people work for each dev, but I'm guessing the game was mostly done with Japan Studio's people and then Miyazaki and some key From Software people assisting/leading. Japan Studio does get credited first upon booting the game. So this possibly leaves most of From Software's staff working on Dark Souls II without Miyazaki for 2 years. Then, around the time of release for DS2, a smaller team works on the DLC and later another team works on Scholars of the First Sin. Since Bloodborne was in development for about 3 years, it's possible Miyazaki finished most of his work on the game a year ago while the rest of the team optimized the game for the PS4, fixed bugs, and tweaked things until release. I don't see any reason why From Software couldn't have started development on Dark Souls III in Spring or Summer 2014. A release for sometime in 2016 would give the game 2 years of development, which is all Dark Souls 2 had.
I think people like to think of the A Team and B Team as From Software split in halves working on 2 games, but really I think its more likely just a small group of people leading each project. The A Team, including Miyazaki, just went over to Japan Studio to work on Bloodborne, while the B Team was made in their absence to work on Dark Souls II.
