Well this is very interesting, I'm not sure how I feel about Dark Souls being continued.
DSII kind of rained on my parade a little because of From connecting it to the first Dark Souls in early interviews by implying Drangleic was essentially the south Pole to Lordran's North Pole or whatever analogy they came up with to say no they aren't the same area, only to have the game contradict all that and imply they are one and the same in not very subtle ways.
I love Dark Souls 2 despite the fact it's floaty, bastardized souls experience, but I resent it for being forced to be tied to Dark Souls in flimsy and kind of lore breaking ways when they should have just done a completely self contained world with no ties to the past.
However, since Bloodborne falls under the same rules of Demon Souls and is never leaving Sony, DS3 will have to be a necessary evil for my Souls fun on PC.
The melting sun screenshot is the most Berserk shit I have ever seen and because of this, screams Miyazaki, which would be pretty awesome if he was coming back to Dark Souls for this installment, DSII could have really used more of his influence.
My first thought is, since they're using the old Dark Souls UI as a placeholder and the character's armor looks like a mix of Demon Souls and Dark, the Bonfire creation stuff and the dragons makes me think perhaps this could be set before the time of Dark Souls.
Also while I understand the instinct to say "Bloodborne DLC" That whole goddamn game is built around not wearing armor or shields, why the hell would they suddenly turn the game into a regular souls game with all that stuff, just through DLC? it doesn't make any sense.
I'm also glad they seem to be using the Bloodborne engine, the lighting is back to being the way it should be after being completely fucking broken in DSII, and since the movement and animation is smooth and precise in BB like it use to be in Dark Souls, it hopefully means we won't get floaty animations and lazy hitboxes with a parry system that doesn't work the way it should.
Dragons are back in DS2. Its probably a sequel.
Anor Londo?
That screenshot is more Dark Souls than anything in DSII
Unless it's set well before Dark Souls, then the more ornate feel would make far more sense.
I really think the overall more "normal" medieval feel and bonfire creation implies as much.
Everything was decayed in Dark Souls, and DSII everything had decayed and was rebuilt a ton of times, I would be curious to see a more lively souls world before the cycle has advanced too far.
Remember that bloodborne, helmed by Miyazaki, was created on a modified dark souls 1 engine. Dark souls 2, by from's b team, used a new different engine which is why movement feels different from its predecessor. The screens using the dark1 ui as a placeholder clues me in that:
1) the game is likely based on a modified dark1 engine, probably the same as bloodborne
2) use of the dark1 engine heavily implies that Miyazaki is involved with the game
I was thinking the complete opposite.
Game looks like it shares DS2's sickly lighting engine and dirty looking textures which implies the opposite to me.
Dark Souls 2 SOFTS has better lighting and shadows in the engine than even bloodborne.
Looking from the screenshots its seems to be a upgraded bloodborne engine, and the shadows seems to confirm that. Probably as a comprise for console hardware...once again.
EDIT: If its all legit....
I haven't even finished Dark Souls II or even played Bloodborne yet. :/
"In the engine" ... hypothetical lighting and shadows are better than actual lighting and shadows, lol wtf are u even trying to say
The shadows are not the same in every part of the game. When they are fully enabled they look great. At least that's what I think he's talking about.

Thanks, thats what I meant. The lighting and shadows in SOFTS are technically better to put it simply.
I think the swords on ground indicates recent deaths to the bosses.

SOFTS?
-What are you waiting from this year E3?
-The problem is: we know things, we've seen some games. It's always the same thing: rumors that we hear before E3 general come true... So all this "is DS3 gonna be there?" game...
-We don't want to take you for fools.
can't wait for the dark souls emiya remix
Personal wishlist compared to DaS2
- less content but more pollished and well designed
- no more Link the Fire/ Age of Dark stuff, I want a smaller story out of Lordran
- the farming needs to be reduced, locking equipment beyond insane rng is not what souls game should be like, this is not an mmorpg
- more variety in bosses, please no more giant armored humanoids
- a completely rebalanced magic system: not OP but not nerfed beyond oblivion either
- weapons/armors should go back to DaS1 numbers, there was too much crap in DaS2
Not really feeling the hype this time, I love the series but with DaS2 vanilla, the three DLCs, the Scholar remaster, Bloodborne and its future expansion...eh the series could use a couple years break.
So...inconsistent shadows and lighting are better than consistent shadows and lighting? Okay.
looks like that same old engine.
Dude, ask anyone who criticizes Dark Souls 2 if you should buy it and they'll say yes. It's still a great game worth your time.Gaf made me not buy DaSo II.
hate to say it but im feeling fatigue.. still havent finished DS2 and barely started Bloodborne.
too much of a good thing can be just that, too much. i mean if they put their heart and soul into it and it turns out really good, of course i'll get it and enjoy it but i dunno.. i wish they made something more different, they can't capture the magic of Demon's Souls again IMO if they just use the same basic formula again and again (and no, dropping shields and adding guns wasn't quite enough).
i didn't even really look at the screenshots because i pretty much know what to expect :/ a fast glance was enough.
