Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

I really hope for Maple Valley, it looked fantastic on last gen, so I'd love a remade version for Forza 6.

Talking of daycycle in the game, I'm not really that bothered about having it dynamic. I'd be perfectly happy for pre-baked lighting:

-Mid-day
-Sunset (dusk/dawn)
-Night
-Wet (doesn't have to be a rainstorm, racing in real life usually is cancelled if the weather is extremely rainy). Some few drops on the windscreen, and different handling is all I really want for this.

This is the post I agree with most in this thread. And yes Maple Valley needs to return in all its glory. It's my favorite track of the Motorsport series.

Yep, as long as it looks and plays great I don't really care about certain things. It'd be fantastic also if we had choices for the different times of day like you suggested.
 
I'd also like to see snow/ice as well if possible.

Agreed on the prebaked aspect as long as there is enough variety of TOD's and you can chose to have multiple TOD's per race.

Yeah, I recall FM4 having the choice for mid-day and sunset for the tracks. With four different day times they could mix it up a little in the career mode you play. Gives it a nice variety.

Allowing the option to remove the steering wheel and driver's hands is the best solution, especially for wheel users. It's such an elegant solution to the godawful always-late shifting animations when using manual gears.

Same. People want night racing - why give a shit how they achieve that technically? The only real negative with baked lighting is you can't easily change the time of day - so no 60x fast forward of the lighting during a race. But that isn't important - you can bake lighting at multiple times of the day and store them on disc so you can still have morning/noon/evening/night races on the same track
 
2D crowds are just cheap imo. and while 3D low poly don't look great, at least they usually MOVE. i don't get how PGR on 360 managed it with crowds that actually reacted to nearby barrier collisions, and yet forza 5's next gen debut couldn't. the only time 2D crowds are ok are miles off in the distance or something where they can give you the impression of a large crowd without being able to see that they're just cardboard cut-outs.
 
So nice to see many friendly faces from FORZAGAF in here, sometimes I feel I'm the only one remaining who still haven't got a Xbox One to play Forza (yes saladine, I don't own one yet!). The day this happens it's going to feel amazing to get Forza 5, Horizon 2 and 6...!

I hope they can spend some time showing these improvements on E3. If not during the main conference then I hope in some interview with the team. I also wonder how big will be the car selection in Forza 6, I remember getting the Porsche DLC day one on Forza 4.

Can't honestly wait for more news regarding this. While it makes it harder since I can't play it I know many hours will be spent in Forza 6 among you all.

I think it'd be a good thing though if it's part of what helped them achieve that 60fps while still having a crowd. Why are crowds even a big deal, this is a racing game, who actually stops the game mid race just to want to look at a crowd. I want the crowd to be a blur as I'm speeding past it.

it's not for when you're speeding past, same goes for carboard cut-out trees, it's for when you break around hard corners, or crash, or spin out. and it's for the fan favorite...photomode

visual consistency is something i care about personally. but i understand if some people don't.

They all look terrible.

The DC guy is going into Hulk mode, the Forza people look like stock photos and aren't actually paying attention to the race and the GT crowd seems to be doing yoga!

Honestly I'm starting to agree with someone who pasted earlier in the thread, no crowds would be better imo. Just give me some jaw dropping gorgeous scenery.


I'd rather they did away with complete realism in one aspect actually; I'm all for laser scanned tracks for accuracy, however I'd prefer they took the track and then placed it in a cool environment rather than emulating the surroundings for the actual track.

How cool would it be to drive along the Nurburgring if it was set high in the alps or the Himalayas? I love the realism in handling and car modeling with sim racers. However I wish they would take some artistic liberties some times.

Some people take this crowd thing a bit too seriously.

In addition, are people forgetting that FH2 had 3d crowds but looked worse than the FM5 2d incarnation?
 
I seriously cannot wait for this. It's going to be fantastic. I'm down for 26 locations too, sounds like they could've added in those glaring omissions from 5.

Regarding crowds though, give me 2D all day long for performance elsewhere. I don't buy a racing game to pull up at the side of the track and complain that the crowds don't look very good.
 
I find that graphics discussion rather funny. Since when are graphical features the most important thing in racing games?

Also do the guys that claim "Forza is just getting where GT was 5 years ago" really think that it wouldn't be possible to do some generic wet track look with reduced grip in Forza? Really? We've had that in racing games since F1 Challenge, GTR etc. That's nothing special at all!

The interesting stuff is localized wetness on a track with proper drying based on where the cars drive. And I don't mean that prebaked driving line the AI uses... Something like rFactor 2 did. Everything else is just a more reflective material on the road surface with less grip and some rain drops on screen...

I really expect Forza to deliver a proper rain model. After all, that's what Greenawalt wanted to include if they would do rain. I they don't deliver I'll be really disappointed.

But to be honest I'd rather see more improvement in the non-graphics side of the game. Like a better career mode. Forza 5 really sucked in that area. Also they should improve the FFB. That "deadzone" around the center feels somewhat weird while driving.

Also they should give you the option to set your wheel to 900° and the game should set up everything else based on the car your driving. Driving a Ford Fiesta? Fine, let me use all 900°. Driving a F1 car? Simply increase the resistance after getting to 270° Just look at Assetto Corsa.

Seriously, do some of you even play the games or just look at them?

I would love turn 10 to implement that camera.

It's not a complete waste of processing power. We all know environmental details are secondary, but they add an authenticity that most fans in here actually want. If the lack of quality in those details is significant enough it can detract from that authenticity just as much. If all the majority of the audience wanted was a bare bones track and car experience, this wouldn't get nearly as much attention as it does.

I would be very surprised if this wasn't added. It's not a very difficult effect to pull off and certainly not as resource intensive as some believe.

Is this guy for real?

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but the feature I'm most excited for with the inclusion of night races is finally seeing cars with the old flip headlights flipped up.

I would also like to speculate that we won't see "baked" lighting as the tracks will need to have several on track lights for night races and those lights will have to make some noticeably dynamic effect on the cars and track. This may not guarantee the inclusion of dynamic time of day lighting, but that degree of effort would certainly lend itself towards it.
 
I don't really see the big deal about dynamic daylight cycles on a sim track racer. Maybe on endurance races, but I would imagine they're a small portion of the races total and I wouldn't be keen on T10 making compromises just for that.

Dynamic weather is more important. So long as we can turn it off and have fixed weather scenarios for time trialling.

Interesting that it's been noted how Daytona is in the game. Surely this means endurance races really are back, because I can't really see much other reason why they would add it as it's not particularly a 'must-have' circuit for any other reason than the 24 hour race (unless it's a real-life alternative of their circuit/oval Sunset Peninsula circuit). To me, that would say there should be some sort of day-night transition.

If they've gone for adding more US circuits in general, maybe we can expect Sebring too? The picture featuring the GT3 cars does look like the final turn there.

Is the screen with the new Ford GT at the New York circuit?
