For those who can't do maths, that's $64 CDN down from $80. I hope they do this in US, will be all over it if it stacks with GCU.

I haven't bought a game in months. Are you telling me they cost $80 now? Have publishers started releasing them on fucking cartridges again?

The Canadian dollar is weak right now, they jacked the prices on games up.

Which is weird cause when the dollar is weak movies still cost the same, but game prices jump immediately, and when our dollar regains its strength it takes them like 6-8 months to re-adjust pricing.

That's fine. When they get drastically fewer pre-orders than in past years perhaps they'll reconsider their promotional approach.

You guys do realize there is absolutely zero point in owning most of these games on Day 1, right?
The only reason we pre-ordered in the first place was due to massive discounts and those discounts are now gone.
These games still cost $70 after tax. Not sub-$50.

When you consider that games should really retail for $74.99 to match the current exchange rate instead of $79.99, this is only a $10 savings.

do they have GCU in Canada-and would it stack with this? %40 off would be righteous

No Gamer's Club Unlimited in Canada.

This is the deal we tend to get instead of having that program.

We're fucked.

We have a regular Reward Zone Gamers Club but it is shit.

Usually I am ok with preordering because I get a really good discount but if it's going to be this shit I am in no rush. I will wait and hope for the dollar to bounce back.

E3 sales are a thing...?

In Canada they have been a big deal for the past few years. $59.99 would go down to something like $39.99.

Last year it was still worth it even with games starting at $69.99. I made out with a few of those titles priced at $45.99.

RIP E3 Sales.

Amazon.ca, plz.

At $79.99 Canadian, it converts to $65.30 US. So why wouldn't I just cross the border and buy from US stores? Save purchases for when I'm going to do some shopping, fill up on gas etc., Or make family buy them for me and bring them up when they visit. There is no reason why games have been quick to rise so much.

Yup. They are being greedy on top of this. If they want to accurately account for exchange they would at least be starting at $74.99. Honestly, they should have stuck with $69.99.

I will just look for Day 1 PSN price fuckups (it happens a lot. $59.99 games in the first few minutes of a store update). They fucked up Rainbow Six yesterday and were offering the game and season pass for $89.99 Canadian. That's with no tax.

The current exchange is $1USD = $1.23CAD, so $79.99 is still ripping us off, even with the weak dollar.

Most digital stores have only jacked up Canadian prices by 10% (or sometimes $10 on a $60 title). Until that changes, I am done with retail.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
80$ + 13% tax. Comes out to be 90$. Hilarious.

Thanks Harper, its not like we got salary raise or anything. We just got fucked.

I have 4 games preordered last year. So I am good.

I know PSN is pricing most games at $79.99 now.

Steam is pricing a few games at that as well but you can still find good deals for PC.

I haven't bought digital on Xbone in a while.

The good thing with PSN has been no tax.

It's even weirder when you consider that many of the games we buy are from Japanese publishers, and the JPY-CAD exchange has been stable compared to USD-CAD. So they're just booking way more profit per unit sale, while our wages haven't increased to make these price hikes make any sense.

End of an era. If nothing else, this will help me save a whole lot of money. I really hope Amazon.ca does what they did last year but there's basically no incentive for them to do so now that Best Buy's pulled this shit.

I only buy PSN stuff at deep discount since I don't have a PS4 yet. As such, I haven't really kept track.

Steam has Fallout 4 up for $70 still, while retail preorders are $80. Steam also doesn't charge tax last I checked. So it's really $70 vs $90.

Canadian dollar sucks. News at 11.

Only respite we have is buying shit on PSN really. Takes a tiny bit of sting out.

I think everyone is in agreement about that - I was basically only pre-ordering Nintendo games, anyway, given the fact that they don't drop in price... but barring some legit stunning E3 announcements (most of the franchises I'm interested in already have titles out), I already have everything I was REALLY looking forward to this year pre-ordered, so the impulse buy element is gone.

Best Buy pre-orders gonna Tank! Tank! Tank!

Yeah. Fallout 4 is definitely a PC purchase for me so at least I know I can save on that.

There will be another Green Man Gaming sale before everything is said and done as well.

I will probably push more towards PC though I think I am going to stick with Rainbow Six on console.

It's surprising to me how good Steam's switch to CAD turned out to be. Their prices are lower, there's no tax, AND there are Steam sales. Plus there's no uncertainty about the price, unlike GOG/Humble/Green Man Gaming with the conversion rate plus whatever your credit card/Paypal tacks on.

I find Green Man sales are a better way to go. I just hit up the latest exchange rate to find out how much it's going to be. Luckily my Amazon.ca card doesn't add anything extra for doing the foreign exchange.

Agreed. Even if your card tacks on an extra 5% conversion fee, $60USD with a 20% discount works out to $62-64 CAD depending on the exchange.

It still makes me sad to think that we have been reduced to considering that a bargain. When I started using GMG in 2011, I was getting preorders for around $35... (granted PC titles were still commonly $49.99).

basically this sale drops games back down to regular price. So hot.

Even if the dollar recovers and game prices go back to normal bestbuy usually refuses to adjust the discount off the updated msrp. This sale is pointless unless the dollar gets even more shitty.

Also the boxeddeal discounts on PSN cards make buying digital even cheaper. You can usually get $50 GC for around $43. All in all you may be able turn that $79.99 PSN game with no tax into something closer to $69.99. Not great, but it's something.

Yep, and if my buying tendencies are any indication it's costing them dearly.

I used to preorder a lot, but $80 has taken me to wait and see status for all but my most wanted titles. I imagine a lot of people are doing the same.

Still available? Do you have the link for that? I'm interested.

edit: Never mind. it's OOS

Yeah, I check back every few days to see if it's available. I have been lucky a few times when I have needed it.

Definitely something to keep an eye on but not the most reliable.

The codes take about 24 hours to show up in your inbox if that is a concern.

MSRP isn't a sale. Looks like I'll be waiting everything out til Black Friday.

Black Friday will probably be 20% off $79.99.

Maybe eb games will have something? They did have a pretty good sale a few weeks ago where they had bloodborne and a few others in the $40 range.

That doesn't even bring the $79.99 games back to $59.99. I can't lie, I'm starting to regret canceling all my orders from last E3 lol. I had everything locked in at $38 (edit: $48 actually) or less. I didn't think games would jump to $80.

I remember a while ago in another thread someone from Sony Canada (or Playstation Canada, whatever) asked what they could do in light of these price increases. Here's your opportunity.
