Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Well, don't they have to have the engine running competently well before finishing the game?

One would assume that if they manage to port the engine, all they will need to do really is tweak a few things from the game Inti Creates is working on and just bring the code over to the systems. It would be simpler, they probably wouldn''t even need to touch the game much, other than adding the features that they promised like touch and such.

5 million stretch goal to be revealed tonight and it's mode? Get hyped.

I hope it's not Inverse Castle. If anything, I wish for to that to have been included from the start.

New update.

And holy shit, Armature are actually porting the UE4 engine to Wii U/Vita rather than remaking the game in another engine. And they'll share with other devs, this is awesome.

Also. $5m goal reveal tonight. It's a mode of some sort.

Holy shit.

Vita and WiiU saved!

Unreal must have a huuuuge grin on their faces atm!

Someone else will do the work for them, for free!

A) I've never played Harmony of Despair but that online mode sounds exactly like it right? But in that game you had a ton of playable characters (since they could pull assets from all over) but this game will likely only have three.

B) That ending stream is actually at a reasonable hour for most of the world (basically everybody except them). Nice though its a shame it will only be 4 hours long.

Calling it now - Build your own (mini) castle (with online sharing)!

Its an awesome gesture, and very cool of them to do, however by the time Bloodstained is released I'm not convinced those platforms will have much (if any) life left in them.

Yeah this is an amazing gesture by them but I figure there won't be many releases for those platforms that would want to use UE4 by 2017 (maybe I'm wrong though). Should bode super well for those ports though if this all works out.

Holy Shit! A competent Wii U port. NICE!

A lot of people seemed to think this was going to be the case regardless, considering who was working on it. Hopefully this is will mean little to no compromise though.

Honestly they were both stillborn or close to it. This makes it a lot easier for games to be ported though so games that would be a good fit on those platforms could be released in cases they wouldn't otherwise. Also the ports of the engine would have to be done quite a while before the game is.

I've figured out what the 5mil item will be:

Yngwie Malmsteen and Micheal Romeo both guest star on the soundtrack to deliver some shredding renditions of Yamane's compositions.

You heard it here first.
A man can dream...

Dude, not cool. You can't just toy with my emotions like that. :(

That's pretty incredible and noble that they're willing to port UE4 and share it for free. I don't know who would take advantage of that (my guess is indies that still care to develop for them) considering the long-term health of the two platforms, but it's great that they're giving developers that option all the same, especially if conversions wind up being a simple recompile for new target hardware.

As for the mode, I'm gonna guess synchronous online co-op. Perhaps with some kind of drop-in/drop-out mechanism--invading others' in-progress games as monsters a la Souls or even dynamically teaming up to fight alongside them in a more traditional co-op role.

Well I think it may be safe to say we will hit the 4.25m goal by the end of today? That is counting the PayPal donations as well...

So lets hope they freaking show us what the 5 million goal is!!

They said they would, tonight:

Anyway, about that $5 million goal. It's a mode. It's going to make this game even bigger than it was before. And we'll be revealing it tonight. (When we heard Inti and IGA were willing to tackle it, our eyes went pretty wide.)

MMO quest based Castlevania. The real game only begins once you are out of the castle.
LOL

I could see indies taking advantage of that. 2017 is roughly when we expect the next Nintendo console so I won't be surprised if we see a lot of cross-gen indies on the Nintendo front. As for Vita? I could see Sony asking for Vita versions of some PS4 indie games.

Outside of indies though I can't see anyone using it for those two.

They're like $203k from Torment's record with 56 hours left. Pretty safe to say we're about to have a new gaming kickstarter record.

After the last update I am VERY sure that the $5 mil stretch goal is actually a randomly generated castle. Something akin to Rogue Legacy but on a larger scale.

Do you guys even know how AWESOME that would be?!

I kinda don't think so. It's easier to get people excited about one new thing right now than five or six things later on. And given that this is going to be the highest-funded videogame Kickstarter ever I find it a little amusing when the armchair quarterbacks nitpick their campaign strategy. :p
Well sure, they obviously know what they're doing overall, but this 5 mil thing just kind of baffles me. But, apparently I greatly underestimated the last days push, so if it's possible to make a million in two days, I'll happily eat crow. ;)

If it's for the online mode I'm all for it. If it's for single player I wouldn't care for it at all.

What if 5 million is not an inverted castle, but a sideways castle? *mind blown*

I had the same idea for the 5 Million stretch goal.

Not only do you get a Inverted Castle, but also Mirror Castle and Mirror Inverted modes!

And each new Castle environment has stronger and stronger enemies and new items to find.

Genius! Send to IGA now!

Guys, no way is it $5 Million just for the sake of mirror/inverted/second castle. That's way too small thinking and probably was in the plans for the small 500k castle.

As for that image above, building a map that you could invert and mirror (though mirror-ing is easier) that many times and still be traverse-able is probably more trouble than its worth. I guess we would just assume Miriam would have some flying power up by then? But then if you have to fly literally everywhere after like the halfway point that's a bit lame.

I should clarify, I like the idea, but not for the $5 million stretch goal, but rather for IGAs biggest castle" which has already been met at 2.75M :)

I wonder if the castle in Symphony of the Night was designed to be reversible when they started working on it? Obviously they'd have had to make some tweaks if that decision wasn't made until after, but still...interesting question. To me, anyway.

Nevermind the fact that they stated an inverted castle wouldn't be a stretch goal.

Will there be an inverted castle?

You’d really want us to spoil it for you? Even though Lord IGA knows the idea of an inverted castle stretch goal would bring in money, he’d rather keep that one as a question mark for now to value creative integrity, first.

Not to say it's impossible, but it would be pretty crappy for the reasons you provided.

So what is the budget for this game I wonder? What will be the other investor match? Or do they need one at all?

If I understood it correctly, and from the information we have, the investor will chip in with another $5m after the kickstarter has ended, so they'll end up with roughly $10m.

According to Iga it wasn't. It was just something they did on whim and it happened to work out extremely well.

In fact this the very interview where Iga admits that the Inverted Castle was just something they did and worked as is.

Mirroring wouldn't make traversing any more difficult, Since left is right and right is left that is the major difference all major objects and traversable terrain would mainly be the same, just backwards.

As stated in the Iga interview, the Inverse Castle wasn't something that was planned from the beginning, it was just something that "happened" So if they designed Bloodstained from the beginning with idea that a reversed castle will exist, they can plan and implement something like this properly.
