Yeah I agree that there won't be much salvageable from this wreck, but I do think it's because of overreactions to her dishonesty. Idk man. I'm just trying to piece all this together.

Oh, im still trying to make sense of all this, like I said there is some component of misplaced empathy and self-indulgence. I do think its unfair to say that the response is outrage, just look at the first few pages and its mostly jokes, then people started to compare this to transgenders, how she is doing something good, how black people should uniformly approve this and some got rightly bothered by this paternalistic attitude.


Edit: Just look at the people talking about lynchmobs and tumblr like it has something to do with this, that dismissive tone is what people find annoying and the worse part its that Gaf is one of the best places to have adult talks without that nonsense.

This shit is crazy. You can list her accomplishments all you want, but it all comes down to the lie. It taints everything she's done, and clouds her motives up irrevocably. It's not a sane way of dealing with whatever drove her to this.

She needs help. At the same time, we have every right to be offended by how she lied, and how much she gained from hiding the truth.

If you wants to frizz your hair, fine. Tan all you want. If you want to look like you can pass for black, more power to you. But don't tell people (especially your husband) that you're black. That crosses the line.
 
So lemme get this straight... I'm supposed to be completely outraged when kids at Cochella and Burning Man wear feathered headdresses and gypsy-style gear because they are "appropriating a heritage" even though really all the vast majority are trying to do is look cool. But when a woman essentially wears blackface for years, lies to her husband, her community, the government, and her employer, ect...I'm supposed to act like it's all cool and it's basically the same thing as being transgendered?

Nah. I'm not buying that one.

Depends on the extent of this harassment. If we're talking people just making fun of her, I don't see how people shouldn't be allowed at expressing dissent of her horrible behavior. But things definitely shouldn't escalate to the point of her receiving death threats, Swatting, etc. (which unfortunately is far too common).
 
So tomorrow will be a normal day right? Tomorrow is when the universe goes back to being normal right? Right?!

This story is the first time I've ever heard of the woman. I've now seen many pictures and videos. I don't understand how people could think she's anything but white.

The whole thing is hilariously mental. It's like something from The Day Today.

Who did she hurt by doing this? Like, even with all this controversy, I'm not seeing any of policies as NAACP leader being questioned.

I mean, Batman hid his identity for the greater good of Gotham. Are we sure this isn't a The Dark Knight scenario? "I'm whatever Spokane needs me to be, call it in".

She hurt herself. She hurt her own damn integrity. Good luck getting anybody to trust you over anything after this.

Nah, there is, its just sort of indefinable in a direct sense. It's sort of in tangible but it certainly exists. Even Ben Carson has it to an extent.
