That's like the opposite. I don't see race or there is no such thing as race is itself borderline diet racism.

Lol what? Race is a social construct. Biologically there is no such things as more than one human race.

There is a wide consensus that the racial categories that are common in everyday usage are socially constructed, and that racial groups cannot be biologically defined

So saying there is no such thing as different races =/= 'I am color blind'.

Is this true gaf.
Being a plagiarist on top of everything else is just..

is she SERIOUSLY claiming this very famous painting by JMW Turner is hers??

she did a quick copy of it and retitles it and doesn't bother to mention it's by someone else?? one of the most famous Romantic painters at that lmfao.

it's called "The Slave Ship" which she's creatively re-titled "The Shape of Our Kind" ummmmm lol

Do you have something bettter thsn the comment section of some article as source?

No, which is why I am asking if it's true LOL

EDIT:
It's on her MFA art blog though:
http://racheldolezal.blogspot.ca/2012/01/triptych.html

Triptych with collaborative poetry by published writer, Dr. Josh Dolezal. First Panel: Absence. Second (middle) Panel: The Shape of our Kind. Third (final) Panel: The Return
40" x 90"
Acrylic on Panel, Beautifully Framed as one unified piece
Accompanied by 3 poems that interact in a call-and-response dialogue with the paintings

If you look. It's part of a series. Where that piece is being appreciated by people at a gallary. She reworked his piece into her artstyle. It is a little suspect that she isn't crediting it though.

She also doesn't credit her "son" being her adopted brother, so.. you know. I think she just likes.. obfuscating things.

You opened up the can, where people identify as dragonkin, weatherkin, dogkin, where some kid is barking, it was only a matter of time before people started identifying as "black".

Next up is age, you will see people identify as teenagers. Whereas before it was tongue in cheek "ive been 29 years old for 5 years!", this will have to be taken seriously, otherwise you are a bigot :-)

The lulz will be had.

Is Dr. Josh Dolezal her rap-serenade husband?
Is that who she collabed with? lol
He must be in on all of this.

It seems really inaccurate to call what she was doing "blackface".

It's blackface by the white Spokane branch president of the NAACP who denied the existence of her white father. This woman is mentally ill at best and you should stop apologizing for her because you sound silly.

It seems really inaccurate to call what she was doing "blackface".

Whatever it is, the idea of people seeing what she's doing is acceptable because "she does good", or worse, comparing it to the issues of transgender problems, is just ridiculous.

As for why, some of GAF's own folks have succinctly explained the reasonings on this thread as well, so I'm not gonna repeat it.

She's been fully living with this identity for years. Repeat: for years she has been living as a black woman day in and day out.

It's ridiculous to think that you should have some control over your identity?

Only if by doing so you're not intentionally, purposefully deceiving others for your own benefit.

I don't get how this is seemingly so hard to understand.

If you don't think you would ever be accepted as the person you truly feel you are, why is this so hard to fathom?

People only get one life; I don't begrudge anyone the chance to live it how they want to, providing they aren't hurting anyone.

Blackface is not an identity. It's a costume. A costume she wore as she maneuvered into a position of authority. A position of authority within THE FUCKING NAACP.

You get to decide what's a costume and what's an expression of how a person truly identifies?

If she is giving a lecture as a professor of Africana Studies discussing how her ancestors were deprived of rights, if she misrepresents that a photo of a black man is her dad, and if she says she is black on applications for certain positions, people may have issues with her dishonesty. This is different from saying "I was born X, but I identify as Y", but it is lying about the fact that you were born X.

But she is hurting other people. Not physically perhaps, but emotionally and/or indirectly. Haven't you read the response by some of GAFfers here that clearly expounded that fact, in that they feel she tramples all over their identity?

She clearly hurts NAACP by undermining their legitimacy because holy shit, they elected someone acting as a black person--who posted a tweet ridiculing someone else marrying a white person, can you imagine--as one of their goddamn leaders.

She clearly hurts the social movement of POCs by making it look like a joke where everyone is just too stupid not to even notice a white person playing pretend as a black person amongst them.

Again, I don't get how this is so hard to understand.

Someone modify that Beyonce bleach gif to fit

I said nothing about biology. Race exists because society has created it, it's stupid to say right now there is no such thing as race because that doesn't reflect the reality of our society.

I was responding to someone who was trying to score some gotcha SJWs points and was clearly trying to claim a color blind argument as in lol since race doesn't exist you can't say she can't be black.

Whatever this is it is definitEly not blackface

It is a white woman pretending to be a black woman. Using tanner and bronzer to darken her skin, trying to style her hair in ethnic black designs such as afros, braids, using brown/muted colored lipstick etc. Trying to deny the existence of her white father and her white heritage. Just because she's not doing it maliciously doesn't remove the fact she's reduced the identity of black women to nothing more than a certain hairstyle and darker skin. It's a caricature and almost costume for her.

She went anti-caricature of other-race recognition.

She normalized enough visual features so a satisfactory number of people would fail to correctly recognize and categorize her as her initial state and wouldn't discredit the possibility of her proposed state.
She created the gap and filled it herself.

If she didn't lie the id have no issues.

If she has lied it shows she is definitely trying to pass. Trying to pass and blackface still a far cry to me.

Passing is a term for a reason.
