This is driving me crazy - is anyone else constantly being taken to the App Store while browsing GAFs mobile site on iOS? It either takes me to Draft Kings, Uber, or Gilt. It didn't use to be that bad. It'd happen once or twice a day but this morning it seems to be happening every time I go to a new thread.

In the movie Fargo, Jerry Lundegaard is trying to get some money by ransoming his kidnapped wife.

He tries to make a deal for a $750,000 loan from his father in law.

His father in law thinks he only wants a finder's fee, which Jerry believes to be 10% or $75,000.

However, the amount of the ransom is $80,000.

Why didn't Jerry just take this deal?

How many seasons is Game of Thrones going to (expected to) get?
I've only just recently started watching this show and I'm already thinking about buying the box sets. Of course, at the very end, they'll release some kind of complete ultimate collection. But if that's years away, I might just buy the season boxes.

I believe 2, perhaps 3 more seasons are expected.

No, the ransom amount he wanted from his father-in-law is $1,000,000. He was paying the kidnappers only $80,000 for their part.

http://www.moviemistakes.com/film458/questions

Question: Are we ever told exactly why Jerry needs the money? His $750,000 deal with the parking lot falls through and he owes GMAC $320,000. He is going to give the kidnappers $40,000, but then it's increased to $80,000. But he sets the ransom at only $1 million. So what is the deal?

Answer: The business deal didn't actually fall through. Jerry needed $750,000 to proceed with it. He tried borrowing the capital from his father-in-law, who refused to lend it to him. Instead, the father-in-law wanted to invest in the deal himself and to give Jerry a small finder's commission. Outraged, Jerry devised the phony kidnap scheme so he could get the money to invest in the parking lot. (He never intended for his wife to be harmed.) Presumably he planned to pay off the kidnappers and partially repay GMAC with some of the $1,000,000 ransom money, and use the rest for the investment deal.

Wikipedia confirms: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fargo_(film)

Jerry travels to Fargo, North Dakota to meet and hire the two men to kidnap his wife, Jean (Kristin Rudrüd), and ransom her for $80,000 to his wealthy father-in-law and boss, Wade Gustafson (Harve Presnell). In exchange, Jerry will provide Carl and Gaear with a new 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and half of the ransom money. However, Jerry secretly intends to tell Wade that the ransom demand is for $1,000,000 and keep most of the money for himself.

My own question about the end of Fargo is...

When Marge finds Gaear putting Carl's body into the woodchipper, he flees about forty yards onto the ice until she shoots him in the leg and he goes down. The next scene is Gaear in her custody as she drives him away from the cabin. Other police cars are soon seen driving down the same road toward them.

So how did a very pregnant Marge get a shot and incapacited large man back across forty yards of ice and into the back of her cruiser?

So I bought three movie posters online, 27x40in each. I figured I'd just go out and get a cheap frame for each one like I have in the past for my other posters, most of which I guess were 24x36. I can't find a single fucking store that sells frames this size for less than like 50 bucks. When I can go to any place like Target and buy a 2-pack of cheap 24x36 frames for 16 bucks. What the fuck gives?

Yeps, these are the ones, thanks! Though sometimes I see slightly bigger transparent pics posted here on GAF, any chance you know where those come from? Twitch as well (because those are rather small)?

If you google Twitch Kappa Face or Twitch FrankerZ face, on Google Images you should find bigger pictures. AFAIK theres no one place to get big transparent/original images that are used for twitch emotes.

Is there a way to listen to BBC radio stations (BBC 6 to be exact) online that doesn't involve Flash Player or the dedicated BBC mobile apps?

I have volvo s40 t5 which is the one with the fairly low pressure turbo (50 hp boost over regular engine). I heard a few days ago that you should let turbo cars idle for a couple minutes before turning off so that the turbo has a chance to cool down but then I've read in some forums people saying anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes but some say that if it's a water cooled turbo (like in this car) then that's not a problem and you can just immediately turn it off if you weren't racing or something. If anyone knows anything about volvo turbos or just modern turbos in general and could give me advice I'd appreciate it.

I just bought a book on amazon and now I see it as an advertisement in the neogaf banner. What is this called and how are they tracking me?

edit -- never mind google is my friend.

Is it stupid of me to get into an argument with a co worker that says it's okay for people in the South to discriminate against Gays if that is against their beliefs but it's not okay to discriminate against someone like me who is African American? So you can discriminate against sexual orientation but not skin color?

Not "stupid" of you but there's a time and place for a conversation like that and the workplace is most likely not it.

Yea, you're probably right. We only see each other at work and somehow the news or the radio or just a trending topic goes by and we sink into political debates.

Hmmm, the Earwolf one exists. And I'm pretty sure there's a Nerdist one? But I haven't found anything for Feral Audio or Greg Proops.
What I was thinking of would be a place to discuss and recommend podcasts of all kind. Kind of how the Comics OTs are general discussion/catch-all for all comics, Debating whether that would be worth it

Are the Batman animated movies good without having seen the series they are connected to? I've watched at least some of the animated series as a kid, but never seen the movies and some recent talk about Mask Of The Phantasm made me want to. Of course, it being years ago, I hardly remember anything except for the basics. Ideally I would watch both TAS and Beyond first, but I don't think I have free time for well over 100 episodes of them.

Also, which of them are worth watching first? I assume Mask Of The Phantasm and Return Of The Joker, but what else?

Alright, I'm looking for an old GAF thread, it might be 7 years old by now. A guy told a story about having to go to the bathroom really bad, he's driving and he can't stop, eventually he gets to a grocery store, but before he gets to the bathroom he shits his pants. The title was something like "I'm a stronger person than you are, and this is why." I really wanted to read it, but the day it was posted I had to leave my house right after I read the OP, and I didn't look at GAF again for like a month. I haven't been able to find it since.

Your Volvo is good to shut off right away. T5 are indeed water cooled so it keeps coolant circulating if it's too hot even after the car has been turned off.

Should ask in the automotive ot next time for these questions.

The worst thing to ever happen to me, and how I made it awesome

How do I disable the constant "administrator" stuff for certain software? This is the only account on my PC, which I assume should be the administrator as well. It's not even a big bother, just a little annoying to constantly click okay whenever they ask for administrator rights.

Windows Help said:
To turn UAC on or off

- Open User Account Control Settings by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type uac, and then click Change User Account Control settings.
- Do one of the following: To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click OK.

It's there to prevent programs changing settings on your computer without your explicit approval. If you aren't an administrator you can also change that from User Accounts.

I believe the default user account type is "standard". What version of Windows are you using?

I'm using Windows 7 (64bit) and under my account it says "administrator" very clearly. I also see a guest account but it's not activated. Would it be a smart thing to disable the alert manually? Wouldn't that make me more vulnerable for potential viruses?

Every time I post in a thread it adds a subscription which I don't want. It's only been doing this recently. How do I stop it?

Go to Control Panel (in the upper left corner of the screen) -> Edit Options -> Default Thread Subscription Mode -> Do not subscribe on desktop. The setting should be in some similar location on mobile.

When someone or a business is trying to name something, how much does social media and the internet in general factor in? I mean stuff like availability of the website, twitter, tumblr etc because it seems like every other new startup has some jumble of letters as a name.

I often see people reposting their same tweet with the same amount of retweets as they had with their initial tweet. How do they do this?

I'm going to New York (Manhattan) for the first time in my life, next month. I'm from the UK.

What are the best things to see & do there?
