Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

Weird, that was two of my favourite things (love voiced protags, and ME dialogue system) :)

You didn't like Fallout's extensive dialogue choices/branches? One of the best things about the series is all the crazy options with the dialogue and the funny situations that can occur because of that extensive dialogue.

No, I apologize. I just thought you were being sarcastic because you had a nice rig.

It's cool, I'm sorry for not specifying. I think the game looks amazing! You are probably right that my system should be fine. I can be dense when it comes to PC specs and what to expect for performance. I'm always paranoid. I agree with you and think this game looks incredible. :)

I loved almost all of the presentation except the start. I don't really like that my character will be married (also canon straight)

Unless they add adoption and gay marriage or something at the beginning. IDK

VIVA FALLOUT!

Voiced protagonist+dialogue options are probably two of the best improvements in my eyes.

Games where you feel like you're having one way monologues aren't as exciting to me.

Game company shows complete bullshit E3 "gameplay" footage.

"Such bull shots, why not show us how the game actually looks?"

Game company shows their true work-in-progress gameplay footage.

"That looks totally unoptimized, poor lip syncing, shit graphics."

if you are saying this is still a work in progress, the game has pretty shit graphics for being due in November.

for me, i am already expecting a buggy mess of a game at launch. i just wanted something a little bit prettier to distract me from the great frustration that will inevitably be caused by the glitches i will encounter.

I don't see how reducing the number of dialogue options is a good thing.

I hope they still have skill based required dialogue.

This is essentially Gamebryo 3.0 at this point and it shows. Bethesda is working on a very antiquated engine, but the good news is they should be experienced enough to deliver optimized experiences on PC and console, but there should also be mods available just after release.

You kind of need to have a child for the whole setup to work. Though I guess there could be an 'adoption' option for gay couples, which could act as a randomized option.

Ins and outs... like, memory leaks? I have no faith that FO4 will be safe to play day 1.

I mean you have a point. But text dialogue also allows for more choice. And in Fallout, those choices often led to unique situations. A lot of voiced dialogue settles on "general feeling" options or "good and bad" simplified mechanics. Not saying that is the case here, and I agree with your one way monologue criticism, but I equally hate when voice dialogue options become limited, and the choices I make don't represent what the voice actor actually says. That can be just as frustrating.

They have to walk that line of a character being scripted (their personality), and having extensive choices that the voiced dialogue can say. I just hope the writing for this game is on point. That if the dialogue is going to be cleaned up and not as extensive as the text dialogue before, that the choices are really well written and the dialogue options can still lead to unique situations playing out.

Also while I get that text dialogue can be cluttered and voice acting can make your game more cinematic (it can make your character come to life as opposed to how dead text can feel), I think that's kind of a big aspect of "role playing". You are your character. And all that text, allows you to choose who you want to be. I feel voiced dialogue kind of takes that away (not always), and they kind of decide for you the personality and actions of your character. Again, not always, it depends. I personally loved the text dialogue in Fallout games. I always felt immersed in the games and like I was actually my character.

With games like Mass Effect, your Shepard is largely a pre-designed character. You can make choices that impact their personality. But it's still a pre-designed character. With Fallout, your character is a blank slate and you play as them, and make them what you want them to be. I find that is harder to do with voiced dialogue.

Fabulous lighting, great sense of scale, very diverse environments which i was hoping for. bad lip syncing, clunky movement, and for my taste it's just like Fallout 3..its just seems ....boring .....Yet Skyrim is a favourite of mine......

Ugh, that dialogue system looks awful. It's gonna be Bioware all over again where you are constantly surprised by what your character is saying. Everything else looks great though, hope it won't sink the experience completely.

So I get to complain early I guess.

I'd been refreshing the page every 10 minutes or so, my hope is that they just put the product page up but haven't actually activated the pre-order option yet

Is there precedent for that? Usually when I see the "sign up to be notified" it means they are all gone

I can maybe go along with voiced protagonist, but the dialog options were a big step back for me. I much prefer knowing exactly what the character is saying, and skill-based checks appeared to be completely absent (a central pillar in what made NV so great). That and the lip syncing were the two things that stood out to me as "bad", everything else looked awesome.

I don't know if it's been mentioned on this thread at all, but hip-fire shooting had changing crosshairs. A nice little touch that was definitely needed. It sucked aiming with the static mini-crosshair in FO3/NV.

I'll let you know if chat gives me a response.

Just saw all the videos!

H-O-L-Y S-H-I-T !

Very, very, very strong GOTY contender.(we have yet to see MGS V & Halo 5). Finally this gen is starting to roll.

Yeah, that's the one thing I'm not liking about the changes.

Having 4 options in a conversation seems pretty limiting.

Thank God you can turn off the 3rd person conversations. Didn't hear it mentioned first time watching so I worried about that. Don't want to break the immersion.

What makes the Bethesda games great is that it gives you a whole bunch of sticks to poke the world with and see the reaction. This just feels like you will handed a handful of sticks. Give us more sticks Bethesda!

Thank goodness for their new dialogue system. The previous Bethesda games had the worst presentation for their stories and it looks way better now.

Speaking of breaking immersion, I hope the world doesn't just stop completely during conversations.

They said you could choose between first and 3rd person not that you could disable it ... which is a shame because out of everything it's the thing that looked completely stupid .....

"Hello, I'm 'generic white videogame character voice' !" .....

And once again it'll be fun to have your character stand there and say nothing in quest mods .....

This doesn't make sense. The conversation can have just as many questions and lines from your character as before. Doesn't matter that you are presented with 4 to start with. If you ask one and it replaces it with another, it's no big deal.

I just hope that reviewers are going to be this time objective and score the game for what it is, and not because of the fact that the game is made by Bethesda

Neither Fallout 3 or New Vegas had branching conversations like the original games, so that doesn't really fly here.

Why can't one be weary or dislike each game becoming more and more limited? Not sure I understand the argument that just because the others weren't like the first one, you can't be weary of even more possible limitations...

Love everything shown here <3

I just hope the main story is good, but I'm so happy it's coming out this year. Been such a great year for games.

I can understand people having misgivings for a voiced protagonist because they simply want to roleplay in a certain way but there will be no limitation outside the usual thing with fully voiced games where you cannot divulge a novel in a single conversation.

Have they said what platform they played that on? I'm really worried this generation is going to be awesome PC games that are trying to run on a ps4. I wonder if we will get some console footage or specs at E3.

It sounds like it doesn't; Todd mentioned being able to move and act during conversations, like just walking away to break conversation or shooting them.

Doesn't mean much you can in Skyrim too.

It's the same when he shows how to give commands to the dog, that system already was in Skyrim and it was shit.

Once a game becomes iconic and is long established, it becomes harder to separate that when trying to have an objective view of it. Which is fine. Consumers have that same bias. Although I've long been iffy on how Bethesdas games can be buggy as hell, and yet still get 10/10s.

So I see your point. Let's just hope this game is released without a ton of bugs. That their next gen titles see less launch issues.

Sorry for my ignorance. So this game is confirmed to have the same dialogue choices as before? I just hope it's fully fleshed out dialogue where the dialogue really matches the choices.

I need to re watch the video it seems. I do have issues with it from a role playing perspective, but awesome if it is exactly like the past two games and 1:1 the amount of choices. Thanks for pointing that out. I apologize for my previous posts.

I hope they fixed their save game sizes

My skyrim save on PC is over 1 GB. That shit ain't gonna fly on PS4 where that's more than the entire cloud storage
Yikes! I forgot about the cloud limit. Also, ps4 games have considerably larger saves than the previous gen. Getting a little worried here. Hoping Sony announces external drive support like on the one system, where you can back up or move things back, and forth between internal, and external drives.
