Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

As someone that had no real interest in previous games it looked like... more Fallout.

Obviously that is not a bad thing for most people based on the praise and popularity of the previous games.

The crafting/building system definitely looks interesting but doesn't really seem like something that I'd want to spend too much time doing. I'd say the most interesting aspect for me was the dog.

This fucking thread....................

The funny part is that 90% of the people bitching about it are still gonna get it day 1 like the rest of us.

Damn straight son! My only grief is the animations, the art direction and everything else looks stunning.

I love how the most useless items in Fallout 3 and New Vegas now have a purpose into the whole meta-game. Everything is useable whether it be on guns, armor, building, etc...

Can't wait to get home and see everything that has been released so far.

November 10th is awesome news. I wish more devs would do this and not announce a game 3 years before it comes out.

I'm a bit worried I'm going to ruin the atmosphere of the game by scrapping all the junk laying around, but I guess I'd only have myself to blame.

What do you guys think of the protag being voiced? Necessary change for the series? Don't like it? Indifferent? About damn time?

I'll be honest, I'm not too pleased about it. I've always liked just being a silent wanderer in Bethesda's games. I fear that this will be a huge immersion-breaker for me. Sure, silently selecting dialogue choices and having an NPCs immediately respond like they do in FO3 isn't exactly immersion-building either, but I'd rather have that than a random guy's voice playing through my speakers every time I choose a dialogue option.

Hoping I'll warm to it once I play it for myself, but from what I've seen in the gameplay videos I'm not feeling it. I hope he doesn't talk much when just exploring the wasteland at least.

And I knew it would be a 2015 release!

I am currently playing Fallout NV with maxed out settings, high res textures, ENB and a customized ini.

People saying Fallout 4 looks cross gen or like Fallout 3/NV needs to go to either an eye specialist or a psychiatrist. The only think that is janky in Fallout 4 are the characters and animations.

No issues with the dialogue or voiced mc, it works perfect in ME, Witcher, DA, so no reason for it not to be fine here either. Character creation looks fantastic.

Perfect isn't what I would call it in ME and DA's dialogue system, but yeah it works fine.

The thing is despite being able to customize your character in these games, you still play 'Commander Shepard' or 'The Grey Warden' and they provide you with 3 very defined option within that role, it's restricted in a way, and that's why it works even if it has it's flaws.

In Bethesda games, usually things are a bit more open, you may start as 'the guy who came out of the vault/prison' but from there it's basically up to ou to (role-)play your character the way you want, and the lack of voice acting left a lot of room for your imagination to work, and that's an aspect many enjoy immensely.

Now with Bethesda's usual level of writing at work and the necessary requirements in mind, there is plenty of room for concern, with a big aspect of role-playing potentially being thrown out the window.

God this looks so much better than Fallout 3 or NV and i adored these games. Love the crafting, love the flying, the optional base building, the new shaders, the 'dynamic' dialog :O! GNNNNNNN can not wait.

Sigh. Yet another victim of conforming to pre-defined voiced protagonists like in Bioware's games. Not what I'm looking for in those kinds of games. I'm skipping this one.

Looks kinda cool.

Not sold on having a voiced protagonist, and this is coming from someone who almost exclusively plays narrative-driven cinematic games. Bethesda's one of the exceptions and I'm not sure they've got the chops for this space but I would love to be wrong. I dunno, though, having so many options on things to say before was a big deal. I guess it's early yet.

Our eyes look perfectly fine, and if your eyes dont notice sub par textures, low poly count models among other things, then I believe you should make an appointment yourself.

We've had plenty of open world games to look at lately, especially beautiful ones, and sorry but Bethesda isnt doing much in the technical department based on the competition at hand...

Honestly hard to tell just yet.

Dialogue and writing is the last thing I play a Bethesda RPGs for though, so it'll probably end up being a nonissue for me.

Agreed completely. In fact, the more I think of a voice protag in this game the more I'm disliking it. :/

Game looks absolutely great and I'm day one, will play the shit out of this..

But it's true that the graphics and animations are pretty fkin horrible, that's just the truth, no point in denying it..

I disagree 100% (on the graphics front anyway, animations are still a little stiff).

Out of everything I've seen about Fo4 so far it's the only thing I dislike. Not a fan of voiced protagonists in Bethesda games and games that go on the similar path of creating your own character.

Hopefully there are multiple voices you can choose from though. I like to envision my own type of voice in these sort of games but if there is one I like I don't mind too much. I wonder if you can turn off protagonist VA? That'll be fine for me.

I really, really hope so. But I won't hold my breath.

This looked awesome never had the chance to comment when the live gameplay was being shown but it definitely looks like a great step up from the last game, can't wait.

Never played Fallout before, but this looks awesome to me.

Also, what's the childs name? Did he say they recorded thousands of popular names?

Hello Breckin! How are you Kael?

This is what makes me afraid of even coming onto GAF during E3. Most of it is whiny criticism's of something they've barely seen anything of or even played.

And the rest of it is whiny criticism of other people's whiny criticism because some people are apparently insecure with their own hype.

I have mixed reactions: On one hand, I cannot deny how impressive the amount of things you are able to do in this world but I feel they are making fallout like a theme park than an actual wasteland. This is so much more prevalent when it came to hoarding items which is now utilized for extra fluff (crafting). It's become more about giving the player the maximum avenues to loiter around beyond the quests. Now I'm all for extra-curricular activities but I feel this has become more of a precedent in distracting the players rather than give them a proper incentive to buy into their universe.

It's a no buy for me. I'll wait for the mods to see if they can correct any adjustments. I do hope, by the very least the writing is up to standard because NV is still reigning over other Bethesda mega-projects.

You play as the father or mother, so the thousands of recorded names are for those when you make your character, not the child. We still have no idea what role the child plays in the story (or if it even plays a role).

Edit: But the child's name was Shaun in the demo. It's probably randomised though (unless you chose the name which in that case I must've missed it in the demo).

Not a fan of the settlement and minecrafting and defence stuff, but I suppose that's optional.

Interesting quests and story is where it's at in Fallout and this is looking like more of that. Like with Doom, solid sequeling by Bethesda.

I'am very happy with what was shown, it may not be a complete revolution. but some people were probably expecting to much.

At the end of the day a game is just a game, because of the fact that last gen devs could piratically do what they wanted with game design, the leaps in games are going to be smaller,

Even if next gen consoles had tripple titans 32gb ram and the latest intel i7, the game would play very similar to what could be done on a ps3/360, but just look a lot better.

thought the dialogue looked even more stilted and weird than normal, but fuck it, i'm in. the writing will probably be fine, they'll tighten up the windows, and i won't play it third person and that'll be fine.

that crafting system though. gonna lose my mind.

In Witcher you can at least have more than 4 different dialogue options visible at the same time.

That's an arbitrary complaint, since half the time you don't see more than 4 because it is either leading you through an order of questions (just as Fallout 4 can do) and the rest of the time it bears no consequence that they showed multiple at once because there are always a few harmless options when they do that. Fallout 4 has just as much room to let you pick from a selection of questions, hear an answer, then be given even more in addition to the originals you haven't asked yet, just like Witcher 3. There's room for just as many lines and no less consequence.

The character animations look stiff. The graphics could be better. I'm not keen on the protagonist being voiced.

That said, those for me are minor criticisms. This game looks fucking amazing all in. The world looks beautiful, despite any graphical shortcomings. I loved Fallout 3, NV, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. I see no reason why this should be any different. So hyped, plus it's coming out around my birthday which is pretty much the best gift!
