Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

As someone who never bothered getting a 360, this made the XB1 a hell of a lot more interesting honestly

Need to read up on solid 360 exclusives
 
can I go and try this out right now? I'm a preview member and I got a couple games on that eligible list. don't really wanna boot the Bone and see nothing

I would be fine with this being a beta list, but my trust with Microsoft is low on this because I bought a 360 based on BC promises and they screwed me by not releasing anything after the first bit.
 
I want to be excited about this, but I don't think BC was handled very well on the 360 at all. We'll see how the games run and how many end up being compatible.
 
This is going to be a tough sell.

Publishers have to a-ok it, so only those that will never, ever release a remastered edition or put it out as part of a collection will let them do it.

Better than nothing, of course.
 
I don't have many 360 retail discs left but I've got a lot of digital content that I would love to download for One. This is very cool regardless though.
 
Really good news. Not sure what I think about having to download the disc games that I own though, hopefully it's not too difficult for them to get the games working.
 
Wait, the list of games is like....20 total right now? Yeah, tempered expectations for sure, then.

I was under the impression it was a full-on XBLA library access, plus select retail games.

Casuals don't give a shit about multiplatform port quality either way. Most of the casual people playing an Xbox One don't care that the PS4 has better quality ports. I remember hearing friends gawking about how "smooth" Xbox One games look. They're blissfully ignorant about things like frame rate and tearing and resolution, and its okay, whatever.
 
Amazing move on their part. Unfortunately I got rid of my 360 and all my games months ago because I never thought this would happen. Should have at least told people that this was coming instead of dropping it on people either way. Great news for Xbox One owners.

It sounds like optimised emulation like they did with Xbox on 360. The effort is on MS's end but the final say is on the publisher to give the final OK. Now with remasters they also have an extra incentive to refuse. BUT.
 
my thoughts:

1. this is a good thing
2. this should be a standard thing, and not something that pops up two years after a system's announcement

this is the sort of thing that gets me leaning towards one platform or another. not just because the system has more value, but because it makes talk about current platforms being backwards compatible with future ones seem more than just talk.
 
I honestly can't see how this is considered anything more than a nice-to-have feature. This is especially true because it is only coming out 2 years after the start of the new gen. Anybody that is still interested in their old games has a 360 to play them. Hell I've got two of them. All this does is give you a little more space under the TV.
