If SE is actually making a FFVII remake... I've argued for years that it would never happen because it didn't make financial sense, but oh man. Shame I never really liked that game :/

Both Shenmue and FFVII are games I don't care about.

Why can't Bioware make a proper Baldur's Gate sequel or something? Give me something I want!

When it comes to keeping the conversation going during stuff like this, they really needed someone like Austin as a hire. Such a good pick.

Vinny sounded so bummed about Assassin's Creed.

EA was the only fucking terrible one.

Grades:

Bethesda - B+
Microsoft - C+
EA - F
Ubi - C+

Same reason EA still uses the Madden name, despite the fact that he retired years ago.

Was Bethesda's really that good? The Doom stuff was pretty underwhelming imo and ESO and the card game are both meh. I think the Todd Howard Fallout closer was the high point of E3 so far but the rest of the conference was pretty weak.

To be real, I'm not sure I'd want Bioware to make a new Baldur's Gate. Their writing has seemed pretty weak to me for a few years, their games lately seem carried by the companions and lore. ME3, DA2, DAI, and a lot of the classes in STWOR have had weak main stories.

What did Bethesda do so well? Show a Fallout that looks like ass? Show a CG trailer for a mediocre stealth game? Show an incredibly brown Doom?

Everything looked average at best and even if you're a huge fan of open world titles with shit writing and terrible mechanics nothing announced was unexpected.
Guess what, to me Fallout 4 looked like a very good new-era Fallout. Dishonored 2 is my most anticipated game right now and they seem to be doing right by it (love the new main character) and DOOM looks like a fun fast shooter, like Doom should've always been.

Those are my personal grades. I'll simply say that your opinion and my opinion of games are not the same.

In my opinion, Bethesda didn't really have a lull in the same way as the other conferences and moved along briskly. I am also not as negative about the games as many others here appear to be.

For instance, I am unabashedly excited about Fallout 4. Yes, it's not a graphical looker, but I liked pretty much everything they showed off.

How dare you.

Does the Tom Clancy name really have that much brand power? Because I don't give half a shit if his name is on a Ubi game.

Alex is the best GB tweetordinaire.
If you're on GAF you're probably in the top 1% of informed video game consumers. For a lot of people, they hear 'Tom Clancy' remember playing a game with that on it before and it makes them check it out.

I'm willing to be wrong, but I bet the FF7 remake is using a stylised art style in some way. Remaking that entire game in full current gen graphics sounds insanely expensive.

Yeah, Ubisoft knows their shit and I'm guessing they've got the data to back up that the Tom Clancy name is a really good way to sell your games.

Yeah, the cost is why I've always thought a full on remake seemed absolutely insane, and I have a hard time believing it's gonna be that. A polished version I could believe.

Having never played FF7, does the gameplay hold up well enough to where people (and new consumers) will actually enjoy playing it or is there a lot of nostalgia involved?

If I had to rate them so far, I'd go:
Bethesda: B+
Microsoft: B-
EA: Oh Hoop Gawd
Ubisoft: F- (or A- if you can forgive them for not showing BG&E)

I will now stop talking about BG&E, I promise.

Yeah, people playing armchair CEO really tend to forget that every decision these companies make is driven by petabytes of data that we don't have access to.

BTW, I predict that if Square does announce a FFVII remake, they'll just show a logo and the damn thing will never actually come out.

Seriously. The best thing at Bethesda's conference was a mobile game.

I never liked the combat to begin with, but I think they will need to speed that shit up at least. Also, they need to rewrite all the dialogue and do a new translation.

AC Unity's Paris was so gorgeous, it's a shame that it was wasted on such uninspired gameplay, asinine design decisions and some ridiculous technical issues and technical compromises.

If I was in charge at SE I would make it look similar to Brothers FF7 has sections that should not be in a modern AAA style specifically the cross dressing scene.

At least Bethesda presented well. There weren't moments of me falling asleep or cringing.

Yeah, it was presented fluidly and naturally. Definitely the best conference in terms of presentation.

EA is just nothing but trash.

Microsoft was a safe presentation. Nothing exciting aside from the BC, but even that was ehh.

Ubisoft was fun. Nothing I really cared for, but I enjoyed watching it.

Yeah, I think the only way FFVII remake happens is if they go super stylized on the art style.

But I wonder if fans would accept that.

I bet you they could make a 100% faithful remake with FF XV graphics and some fans still wouldn't accept that.

I'd love for Rockstar to get their hands on that setting and make the equivalent of RDR in it. AC makes such beautiful settings that are completely wasted on the gameplay.

Bethesda I agree, I didn't really find Doom that interesting but it kept my attention.

EA just... no

Microsoft I thought was the best so far. I think the Rare game looks really cool, the desert dog game looked interesting and i'm a huge Halo fan -- plus the indies helped (Cuphead is so cool looking)

Ubisoft was decent. Nothing I was too interested in but had some of the funniest moments imo

I'll admit Todd Howard did a great job at presenting, but I still don't see it as a strong conference given a lack of big announcements or revolutionary gameplay segments.

As for lulls I found all the gameplay to be pretty boring. Doom felt slow next to older Doom titles and Serious Sam, the Ninja Gaiden 2 styled executions didn't help with that. Fallout 3 looked ugly in terms of models and animation, had survival game elements in a world it didn't make sense in, and had terrible dialogue. The 30 seconds or so of Cuphead were more exciting to me than anything Bethesda showed.

We shall have to agree to disagree.

I was very excited coming out of it, and felt some of the systems in Fallout 4 were surprising and cool.

Battlecry was cringe
That card game and the Fallout slideshow were really boring

But overall not as bad as the others.

I forgot about battlecry. But on the card game, that was done and out of the way in about three minutes and we could have a good laugh about it.

But it was paced so much better, like goddamn that fucking EA interview thing...

I wasn't in this thread during the EA conference but I think them flushing the Milky Way down the toilet for the next Mass Effect was an inspired decision. I didn't even consider that.

i woke up, tuned in for twenty seconds to a patented ubisoft shitty scripted gamer conversation while the division was going, and went back to sleep

Bethesda gets points for being lean and quick. It did everything it needed to in an hour and a bit.

Ahem, concept art slideshow notwithstanding.

Remaking FF7 is just a bad call. The game won't hold up to people's memories and hardcore fans will be angry if they change something for the new HD game.
