most people are not hardcore, and don't have that sort of income to blow on games. That is why Sony is winning with just 3rd party support. its not hard to understand.

i'm not listening to the stream right now, are they talking about 'for most people', 'for gamers', or just chucking the shit around more generally?

Guys is this like, your first time seeing Giantbomb stream? They are refreshing compared to the "OMGGG HYPE TRAIN" you see pretty much everywhere else

Fine line between criticism and cynicism. My girlfriend who knows very little about the bomb crew asked me why I was listening to their overlay and that quote, "It was really starting to annoy her".

I don't understand why people who write about games care so much about platform exclusivity. You're going to play it, regardless of platform. Why does it matter if it's multiplat or exclusive?

GAF has a strange inability to accept anyone who doesn't subscribe to the exact strain of nostalgia they dance around, and takes offence by anyone not sufficiently bowled over by said nostalgia to muster any kind of insight.
I wonder if gamers only surround themselves with friends and family that are in complete lock step with their opinions. Must be pretty boring.

What these guys feel about individual games is like 10% of why I continue to care about GB.

I don't even like or play games like Shenmue/Final Fantasy/Last Guardian, but I can appreciate the sheer lunacy of having them at a conference. All at once! o_o

One of which isnt even a game yet and the other was just a cinematic that showed no more than a teaser that appeared 6 or 7 years ago at the PS3 reveal...

Accept for the blonde dude who goes, "then I saw the Guerilla and was all like,. ohhhhhh" in a condescending diatribe to say that killed his hype for what he saw.

And the others in the panel, crickets. I would have called that out.

Don't forget we should be building Steam Machines instead of getting a PS4.

lol, this shit is a joke. Stop.

I only check out GB a couple times a year and I know why. These guys look like they were atheists attending a fucking bible study. Zero excitement with negative garbage mixed in.

These clowns are old news man. I'm watching GT Live right now and at least Huber and Bosman show some enthusiasm for their fucking profession.

cool post, I'm glad you took the time to come and share

Yeah, this is the reason I like Giantbomb. I'm pretty cynical about games nowadays and get tired of every other outlet getting hyped over a CGI trailer of a game that has a good chance of turning out underwhelming once it releases. I like that they don't go crazy over things like that even though I almost lost my mind over a CGI FF7 trailer.

I can't believe Jeff made Dan work during the Dusty Rhodes tribute show. That's like not letting an employee attend a funeral for a family member.

what games did they think were coming this year? with how long production cycles are, what could possibly have been out by the end of the year that wasn't announced? they just had this argument loaded up and ready to go. easy to take potshots.
new forza was just announced and GT still in production
that's 2 forza now

Is that GAF or Giant bomb?

Because preteens like Shenmue 3, Final Fanasy 7, and a supposedly dead game from 2009. The guys are being harsh, but not unfair, but the audience for these titles are firmly in the older market.

And when your cooler older friends, family, etc you look up to rave about them, the tween crowd will want to play just as much.

I know when I was younger, my 18 year older uncle got me hyped for nostalgic games to him, and I wanted to play them due to that.

Hence why I got into Mechwarrior as a pre-teen.

Honestly what would you prefer if only given 1 or the other. Good 3rd party games or some so-so first parties? I mean honestly I thought CoD looked about just as good as what I saw from Halo. Gear 4 did almost nothing for me, and it's a ways as well.

Because convenience trumps all.

PC gaming at this point is incredibly convenient.

one is asking for a lot more money upfront. its an easy argument to put down. ps4=560. PC= 700-1000 (if you build it), if you are not building it then more than that. No reason to spend that money if you can spend less and not have to build a pc.

Except people will still need a computer for the most part so they still have to buy one anyways. So if you're gonna need one why not spend a little more and just play your games on that? Just as easy to make the argument going the way of PC over a dedicated games machine when you can do both games and PC tasks on the computer.

They're making totally fair points.

Sony's big announcements this year, as hype inducing and legendary as they are, are for a cult game that was supposed to come out half a decade ago and still isn't finished, a PS1 remake we know absolutely nothing about and could be years and years away, and a Kickstarter for a project that they may or may not be really affiliated with, and like all Kickstarters the game barely exists right now beyond scraps of assets and Suzuki's old unfulfilled dreams.

It's effective headline grabbing hype and all super neat (and unbelievable) things on their own, but it does seem a bit like a smoke and mirrors act.

Agree with you there.

When your first takeaway from THAT conference was "where was morpheus" then you're not professional, you're just trolling.

That wasn't their takeaway, it was just something they commented on and discussed, Was a tiny part of their discussion.

Wait, Jeff is "the blonde dude"?

GOTS forerunners so far are Fallout 4 and Horizon in my opinion.

Firewatch, Dishonored 2 and No Man's Sky are all interesting, but they either don't present as well on stage or didn't offer enough details/gameplay.

I hope we see more of Firewatch tomorrow. Seemed like it had humor and just general weirdness. Paired with an appealing artstyle. Want to know mooore.

i am the first to crap on brad for his occasionally uninformed opinions but it feels wrong to watch him be crapped on by someone who doesn't even know his name, lol

If nothing here did anything for you than that is fine, you want more stuff that is relevant to your interest released sooner this year. This one was long term in my eyes but i still hope for Persona 5 because i have a fever for it so i can't relate to people that do not care about anything right now.

Guerrilla has never shown they can write for shit and that trailer sets up a lot of narrative and probably will need strong writing to push it forward for however long it is.

Now if they talked about Guerrilla on a technical or multiplayer basis it would be a comment that was unwarranted.

I am so glad they don't just go full fanboy and freak out over the games.

These guys actually had some great analysis and Austin has made it even better.

Yeah, it's refreshing to not see press joins the circlejerking over announcements.

At first, i wasn't really feeling Austin, but he has been on point with good analysis. Good shit.

Jeff just said "if you are willing to pay more upfront then why buy games on ps4"? Like really? that is the problem, 12-16 year olds do not have 700-1000$ to blow on pc's, nor do a lot of people my age (26). It isn't exactly hard to realize why Sony doesn't need 7 first party games coming out at the same time, and can ride the 3rd party train.

I am not pissed over what GB is saying, but some of the comments coming from them is just beyond ignorant or just plain stupid imo.

This is how I feel being someone who just found about Sony's E3 news and didn't watch the presentation. At the very least, I'm definitely buying a PS4 this summer if I can swing it.

really well said. my feelings exactly

I suppose they could be like that Youtube panel - with hosts bragging about how quickly they pre-ordered certain games. That would be fun, right?

I agree - I was just surprised by reactions. I think it was just three crazy announcements that happened to not excite me much.

I can't believe Jeff made Dan work during the Dusty Rhodes tribute show. That's like not letting an employee attend a funeral for a family member.

Did you see him during the stream, though? His eyes were locked on his laptop the whole time and just nodded every once in a while. Makes me think he was just watching a stream of Monday Night RAW or something...

With gb doing their taking over the conference thing, does this mean no late night stream? or are they going hella late with this?

I think the general thing is that there are no games they would be genuinely exuberant about seeing, the way that anyone else watches them would be.

I can't imagine a single game that Jeff would be very vocally enthusiastic about being announced. Maybe he's just been doing this too long.

Even when you listen to him describe a game he actually really likes on the podcast he always tempers himself to a certain extent during his explanation and discussion about it. It's almost done in a weird purposeful way on his part as a mechanism to not show any true excitement over anything.
