I think the problem for me is that their complaints are not unreasonable, but there was alot to like from this and they seem to not say that as much.
Focus on the critiques because that is your job, but also give credit to a fun conference that has some shit that seemed impossible happen in it. This stuff is not binary and they can level the complaints without stepping back from what make this conference interesting.

Did you see him during the stream, though? His eyes were locked on his laptop the whole time and just nodded every once in a while. Makes me think he was just watching a stream of Monday Night RAW or something...

They should have just cancelled the trip. How can they be expected to work so soon after the passing of the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes?

Their hearts are just not in it.

Jeff just said "if you are willing to pay more upfront then why buy games on ps4"? Like really? that is the problem, 12-16 year olds do not have 700-1000$ to blow on pc's, nor do a lot of people my age (26). It isn't exactly hard to realize why Sony doesn't need 7 first party games coming out at the same time, and can ride the 3rd party train.

like in what context is this if? like in who this conference was good for? I mean sure, you and a lot of people are outside his qualifier, but that's why he made the qualifier.

Jeff, we saw Mario Maker for like an hour last night. It's not going to be there.

i think the general thing is that there are no games they would be genuinely exuberant about seeing, the way that anyone else watches them would be.

I can't imagine a single game that Jeff would be very vocally enthusiastic about being announced. Maybe he's just been doing this too long.

Even when you listen to him describe a game he actually really likes on the podcast he always tempers himself to a certain extent during his explanation and discussion about it. It's almost done in a weird purposeful way on his part as a mechanism to not show any true excitement over anything.

Mario Maker.

The point about Steam doesn't really hold water is my one issue with the analysis, Steam isn't a new player and hasn't changed significant as a service recently so the concept that Sony is going to lose ground to Steam doesn't really hold, it feels like a failure to separate the core type who visit message boards an' shit and the wider audience.
The other stuff is basically just factually correct, even Sony was forced to admit the line-up this year is iffy.

I do agree with the guys about the lackluster 1st party, but I dunno I have so much that I want to play on my PC Backlog that I'm ok just getting a few things a year with my PS4.

I've changed recently that I'm not too much of a Pre-order guy. Maybe Unity changed me since I never played more then a few seconds while waiting for it to be fixed and never really went back to it yet.

I've just got so much shit to play it's just hard for me to get excited about new games until the release date actually comes close and I've seen enough to possibly get day one, but most likely I'll wait a month or two to scope things out.

Anyway this is just the ramblings of a man who has a hard time expressing myself so sorry if it makes no sense.

E3 is all smoke and mirrors though. I mean, what are we really talking about? Who "won" a trade show? Sony just seems better at playing this particular game than everyone else.

I get some of their complaints with regards to first party offerings, but there is a point where you are not in touch with the average consumer. Your average consumer is not saying "Why get a PS4 when I can just build a PC for $800?!?"

The valid criticism for Sony is first party this year.

First party in general is a very flimsy criticism that all comes down to personal taste and not actual facts.

Man, clearly MS fanboys.

This isn't about fanboyism. It's about being sick of them shitting all over everything all the time for no reason other than their pervasive cynicism. This is at least 6 years in the making of seeing them with the same tepid "everything sucks" responses to stuff at E3.

What did they add to the conference with their cynicism? What does making fun of presenters add to the perspective I am watching?

i'm not listening to the stream right now, are they talking about 'for most people', 'for gamers', or just chucking the shit around more generally?

It always seems like their statements are general but aren't because they don't mention the things I care for so it could be just something i believe, personally i think they believe they are universal and reflect on reality "world wide". But i don't really care, like i said no one is a king here on the opinion board , no one has the title that prevents them to be ignored.

When your first takeaway from THAT conference was "where was morpheus" then you're not professional, you're just trolling.

I think they were expecting more than a few minutes and a reel with games. Demoing VR on a screen is really hard, you lose all the experience of being inside the game, maybe that's why they just did it that way.

Seriously guys, everything they said was valid. Sony presser wasn't amazing just because it had a kickstarter and The Last Guardian. I'm as excited about those two titles as the rest of you guys, but that doesn't change the fact that overall the conference was lacking in first party stuff.

couldnt have said it better

Why not? I'm a God damn idiot and managed to build a cheap PC 3 and a half years ago that's capable of running Witcher 3 better than the PS4.

Building a pc has become trivial. Especially with neogaf's "I need a new PC" community and reddit's /r/buildapc, and that's coming from someone that despises most of reddit.

You seem very invested in a site you only watch once or twice a year. Do you though.

Very good post.

I definitely thinks Sony plays 'the game' of E3 the best and definitely knows how to pander to their base the best. It's not surprising that people who have worked in this industry for as long as the GB crew has aren't phased by it.

The last 3 years they've been amazing at playing to the crowd and making people happy. But it does distract from the fact that they've been taking a very MS approach by focusing on third parties and now having a weak first party lineup for the 3rd holiday in a row.

In 2013 they hit that price and DRM announcement but left their launch lineup weak. Last year they announced one game to pad out their lineup: LBP3. Obviously it wasn't enough. And now again we got nothing and not even a date for NMS.

This conference was exciting as hell, but yes as always it does feel ultimately weak in terms of delivering something coming soon that I can't get anywhere else.

What an interesting display of certain people in this thread requiring a positive confirmation from the guys to match their own excitement, and when they are unable to receive said matching feelings they go to insulting the Giant Bomb crew in various ways, as if it affects them personally that someone isn't as excited as they are.

if you haven't figured out, over the course of 6 years, that you don't like the site... what the hell are you doing with your life?

probably worth pointing out again that this thread is for the GB audience to talk about E3, not an open door to air grievances with GB and shit up the thread

You're not very good at parsing arguments beyond "This is awesome!" "This sucks!" are you? They made a lot of points that are beyond just "everything sucks."
