Now see I agree with you that they seem weirdly adamant that the PS4 needs first party stuff when it is the most popular platform for the third party stuff. But you gotta understand that from their perspective, with access to all the consoles, they want something to stand out, and there's not much standing out this year for the PS4 that you can't get anywhere else.

For people who aren't in that situation though, it's a very weird complaint.

But when they talk about it they make it sound like its a problem for the market as a whole, and the fact is that's it's not. It's just a problem for people like them who own every system.

And if No Man's Sky makes 2015 it won't even be a problem for them. Also Persona 5.

I will agree that they seem to be WAY overplaying the importance of first parties in the PS4's case, since well...that hasn't really stopped the PS4 from selling a lot thus far.

Probably, but the comments about the long game vs. steam and the "what am I playing in 2015?" were on point IMO.

I think my only problem is nobody is arguing anymore. There is no counter-arguing at all. It becomes boring and nothing of value is had if they all just agree with each other. Dan has done this well with nintendo in the past few months, but today he has said nothing really. Then again he could just not care about anything shown.

To be fair on Dan it seemed like he had troubles beyond gaming stuff today.

The Sony 1st party talk of they 'have nothing' is weird. They don't have a big game this holiday, but I hate the focus solely on holiday as if that matters to people who play games all year round.

I think Microsoft 1st party releases good games, but usually too predictable for me (Forza/Halo/Fable/Gears/repeat). They've announced some other potentially exciting stuff, but have only showed CG so far for those titles, and it's hard to get excited for a new IP based on CG for a new IP without a glimpse of the gameplay.

I agree with them, though, Horizon looks awesome.

To be fair, they were pretty ho-hum on that too. Everyone's opinion of Halo 5 was pretty meh, Jeff seemed a little interested in Forza, and the most hyped they got was when Dan heard that Rare collection had RC Pro Am, Brad heard it had Viva Pinata, and Jeff heard that he had another chance to shit on Battletoads.

But the crew doesn't talk about how terrible Microsoft's first party is or question why people will go out and buy an XB1 over a gaming PC even though the PS4 is destroying the XB1 in sales.

I don't think the crew has some Microsoft bias, I just think their analysis of the state of the gaming market and what drives console sales is really, really off.

Everything they say is their opinion. They've mentioned in the past that they aren't an IGN or Gamespot that can cover everything. They have a niche and that niche is people who probably own a PS4/X1/WiiU and PC.

Here guys, if you want your dumb shitty hype train we found it for you. Just go watch this Gametrailers bullshit.

Because Microsoft are PC people. If the console market crumbles it doesn't really damage them in the same way it damages Sony and the PS4. They could just move all of their franchises over to PC with little to no worry if people decide they don't want to buy consoles anymore. Half of the exclusive shit they showed today had "Xbox & Windows 10 Exclusive" before the trailers anyway.

Agreed with this assessment.

But they make nothing off of licensing or Live scripts if people abandon the box for the PC which is more in common than the PS4.

I am sure they do not want to lose those billions.

The windows division makes far, FAR more money than the xbox division.

Getting more people entrenched into that ecosystem is not a bad thing for them.

Heck, they are even starting to embed xbox stuff into the PC.

Since when are they talking about what drives sales? Did I accidentally click on an NPD thread?

Is there any way to catch an archive of the Sony stream talkover?

guys i am very very very sad and frustrated that these people are not pooping their pants and masturbating over a remake of a twenty year old game. also i am trapped in a basement at gunpoint being forced to watch these streams. call the police

Microsoft puts out known quantities. You can guarantee Halo, Forza, Tomb Raider, Rare Replay, Gears remaster, etc. will all be solid. They're also games coming out this holiday. Their point was how Sony has little coming out this holiday, and the games they did announce (such as Horizon) look cool, but are up in the air. Horizon is by a developer who has put out games that are mostly viewed as average so that will make them take a grain of salt with the reveal.

You have a really odd definition of catastrophe.

I mean, Brad was the one saying it looked "dire" for Sony. Alex used similar language.

Yeah, I heard then say "how are they going to diffentiate?" Well, Sony clearly already have as people are going out and buying PS4s in droves so...

I mean I too have a PC I built a month ago and I will do all my third party gaming there, but that doesn't have to stop me from being excited about No Man's Sky, TLG, Horizon, Fire Watch or whatever, etc. But there are other people out there who will NEVER pay 600-1000 for a gaming PC as 400 is the upper limit for a console.

Brad says now Sony have to worry about Steam not just beating MS. I just hope they can get thru 2015 without the PS4 crumbling under the weight of hordes of consumers buying Steam machines and PCs.

:/

They own all the consoles
They own a competent PC

This isn't like they only own a PS4 or only an Xbox One. They don't really care about multiplats, and the promise of games next year or the year after really isn't going to sway them that the leading months till December will have great exclusives to the PS4 from their 1st party studios. It's simply what it is, dunno why it's so hard for some people to understand that. This year Sony has an ok to average exclusive line up. Next year is when things start heating up, but it's fair to say that this year isn't as great.

Well, there are a lot of people who only have a PS4. Or maybe a XB1. People who will never justify 600+ for a PC to game on. And those people will be fine playing every other third party game.

Not arguing that, but they are also going to be careful not to cannibalize the XBox. They still would not want to lose millions in subs and licensing, regardless of what makes more than the other. More More is better than just More.

If their opinion is that lack of first party content in the second half of 2015 is going to be a problem for Sony they're dead wrong.

I get where the GB crew is coming from in regards to the relative drought in Sony first party studios output this year. But at the same time, for me personally, the Sony conference was by far the most exciting. Austin summarized it great with the discussion of the exciting new games and the far fetched nostalgic projects that most had written off as a lost cause.

To me I'm not bothered that Sony is lacking in first party games this year. I've got a gaming PC and am perfectly happy buying 3rd party games on both PC and PS4. I'm sure it's a different story for someone who committed solely to PS4 as their platform of choice, without a PC or Wii U as a secondary system.

Since when are they talking about what drives sales? Did I accidentally click on an NPD thread?

Brad questioned why anyone would pickup a PS4 over a gaming PC due to the lack of exclusive games on the PS4.

I mean just Jeff talking about how little CoD exclusivity matters shows me how off base he is. CoD is still fucking huge. They act like Batman, Star Wars, Destiny and CoD exclusive content doesn't matter when it very obviously does.

there you go

I can't wait until Half-Life 3 is announced to a chorus of "Oh well, we knew it was coming eventually." "It's not out yet, so why be excited?"

Alex: The fact that Valve has caved into their fans and made this game is troubling!

Brad: I only care about DOTA 2.

Jeff: I don't like Half Life 2 so I don't care.
"Hey, you guys liked Half-Life 2, right? Here's more of that!"

"Half-Life-ass Half-Life"

etc.

You guys are terrible at poptimism. The idea is to be psyched about Products, not grumble about how other people aren't psyched about those Products.
