And yes, I had the same reaction the whole conference.

I missed their whole livestream. :( Will they be uploading this on YT?

That was the greatest conference of all time!!!! Past present future nothing will ever top this! I jumped, I screamed, I cried! Horizon could have been game of the show and it was forgotten because Sony had everything!!!!!!!!!

Sony won all e3 s till the end of time!!! Holy shit! How can I sleep!!! This is insane!!!!

I am still emotionally recovering from this.

How can such a conference be topped? Really one for the ages, and certainly one I will never forget.

Hahahahahaha some of you guys are still complaining that the conf didn't deliver lol . Either you are too salty or video games dont excite you. GAF never changes

Open world games don't excite me (Horizon)
Randomly generated content doesn't excite me (No Man's Sky)
Fighters don't excite me (SF5, but I liked the visuals and fluidity of gameplay, it's a Japanese developed game after all)
Games appearing on PC don't excite me (PC is the best gaming platform)

I've never played FF7 but if it's more like an oldschool JRPG then count me in.
Shenmue is not for me.
I've never been a fan of Ico / Shadow of the Colossus type games.

Uncharted 4 is great, I want it, but a known quantity.
I wanted to see actual MGS5 gameplay, not the weird trailer shown earlier today. But nope.

Honestly not much there.

Sony started strong...finished strong with Uncharted but a good 3/4 of that conference was: first on consoles, premiere trailer, fund this game for us cause we don't want to pay for it ourselves and we have timed or exclusive dlc. OH and Vita IS DEAD

If Sony was pandering to us, then I apparently really like being pandered to. Sign me up for another. Pander the shit out of us next year too. Same goes for you, MS/Nintendo. Just dump it all over me.

Now that GAF is functioning again, my thoughts on a Sony conference with huge ups and downs:

"That's an applause line”? "Games are the cultural zeitgeist”? "Full stop”? I have to admit, I thought I was in for a complete groaner from start to finish.

Then finally, The Last Guardian, with a release year, followed by Shuhei Yoshida saying "Fumito Ueda is great, don't believe what you hear about how we drove him to quit. Please don't leave us, Ueda! PLEASE?!” It just felt desperate giving him kudos now after everything that’s happened.

Then on to Horizon. It looks good, but it also looks like the vertical slice du jour of Sony’s conference. I will wait that one out.

Then Hitman with no gameplay, gab gab gab, digital release, blah blah blah, exclusive beta/DLC.

Street Fighter V comes on very VERY briefly and, oh BTW, another exclusive public beta. Public betas appear to be the new exclusive DLC at Sony’s conference.

No Man's Sky had a slog of a boring demo, bragging bullshit that will never materialize (All these stars are solar systems, for serious guys!). I started reading my book at that point.

Media Molecule comes on and starts philosophizing garbage, then shows us what appears to be user created “experiences”. Basically, not a game, but Mario Paint for the artsy poseur in the gaming crowd.

Destiny expansion... yawn. Another Ass Creed… yawn. Final Fantasy Chibi game because… yeah sure why not?

And then… Final Fantasy 7 remake. I’m of 3 different minds about this.
First, I am glad it exists just so people can shut the fuck up about it for the next 5 years before they start asking for it to be remade yet again.
Second, I’m glad that the remake will expose the younger generations to just how truly forgettable this game is without that wide-eyed nostalgia.
And third, I can’t believe they would announce something that cannibalizes FFXV. But then again, I don’t recall them giving a release date, which should worry people, since Square Enix isn’t great on their track record with games. If we don’t get firm release dates for KH3 and FFXV tomorrow, we should be concerned.

And then they followed it up with Shenmue III…. Kickstarter. It was just such a terrible contradiction. “We’re so excited to announce this game, but not excited enough to fucking fund it. Do it yourselves, gamers, we can’t be assed.” It’s just a terrible message when you actually break it down. It was literally just to take credit for something they aren’t even truly involved in, which is just stupid.
But at the end of it, at least we now have the "etherware trifecta" out of the way so people can stop fucking droning on about them. But being excited for a Kickstarter is like freaking out N64 Kid style before you’ve unwrapped your Christmas present.

And it looks like exclusive DLC is still a thing, thanks to Batman Arkham Knight. I started reading my book again.

And then Morpheus happened, right? Blink and you missed it, seriously. I’m guessing they didn’t want to sour their presser with bad news that it’s still not affordable to own. Save that for next year, I guess.

Blah blah Spotify blah blah PS Vue blah blah blah.

And now I guess it’s Sony’s turn to give CoD fans their annual handjob with Black Ops 3! I was able to still read my book, go have a whole cigarette and make a cocktail on the rocks from the kitchen and it still wasn't done when I got back. More DLC exclusive and exclusive beta nonsense to top off that shit sundae.

Then the video wrap-up. "OH YEAH, we need to show off Vita! Give it 10 seconds!!” Sony couldn’t make it clearer that their handheld aspirations are permanently dead.

A lot of time given to Disney Infinity and Star Wars. I still haven’t put my book down.

And lastly, a delayed boot up of Uncharted 4: Nathan Drake Standing Still. I really felt bad for whoever fucked that up so badly.

So aside from the etherware trifecta, there was nothing really amazing to report, and some of that is shit Sony can’t even take credit for but are going to try to anyways, which rubs me the absolute wrong way, and the rest of the conference was just a bore otherwise.

But still, those 3 games alone do put them above Microsoft this year.

Only 2 more of these conferences to go, let's see what other big guns are left to fire. But Sony is clearly leading the mindshare pack so far on the good graces of others.

I think we just became best friends

Well, actually the NMS stuff is legit. I like Sean, it was boring, but these guys are absolutely delivering what they are promising. I just dunno if it will actually be interesting in practice.

They have plenty for the Holiday.

That's the big disparity between "gamers like us" and the reality.

They have huge third party partnerships, every major third party titles, remasters, huge indie exclusives. They got tons of games.

They just don't have the big first party exclusives that people like you and I really look for, since it makes PS4 special -for us- versus how many games we can just buy on our souped up PCs. And we've seen a lot of movement within Sony first parties, but a lot of stuff has been delayed/didn't go as smoothly, and we're seeing the result of that. Everything first party is 2016.

But PS4 has a zillion big games this Holiday. And that's why you will still see it selling very well, whilst people keep asking "where are the games?" It's just in the form of third party games/remasters/indies.

Yup. They really have a ton of games. Not many that interest me, but they are there. Sony is going to dominate this year.

I'm a patient person. I'm okay with waiting until 2016 for this stuff. Until then, I'll continue to clear my backlog, play retro games, and continue to be hype as fuck for those reveals from earlier tonight.

I am merely talking about the announcements themselves. That is where Sony destroyed everything. But in terms of exclusives coming this year and features, I give it to Microsoft with ease.

In my case I like Sony's exclusives better this year. But then I guess me never being a Halo or Gears fan is the reason why.

Horizon Zero Dawn is easily the highlight. TLG looks dated, can't believe it still looks so rough after how many years now? FF7 was just a CG trailer for a game that we played nearly two decades ago and likely isn't coming out anytime soon. Even if you love Shenmue it's still just a kickstarter currently and won't materialize into a game for 2-3 years. Lots of theoretically exciting things in this that amounted to very little impact. All of the conferences were kind of a let down. Microsoft probably wins just for having the most relevant announcement for something happening soon not two years down the road, even then it was weak.

You guys are crazy, E3 2016 is going to be about other studios in Sony'S WWS.

Sony Bend
SSM
Media Molecule
Polyphony Digital
Sony Japan

Remember Gravity Rush, The Tomorrow Children, Rime, Persona 5, Dragon Quest Heroes, Dissidia, Deep Down, Dragon's Dogma, FF14 expansion. I think the people talking about "too much hype, not enough here and now" are forgetting how many games are actually coming to the console. Just like MS said they held back Crackdown, Scalebound, and QB for Gamescom, Sony just showed stuff that fans wanted. Frankly, I'd say these announcements are more of a "bomb" than telling me I can play my older disc based games now.

Halo/Forza/Fable all in the same year. But what really stole a lot of attention that's actually coming out this year? Fallout and Battlefront, and for me personally, Destiny looked quite amazing.

So yeah, from a practical standpoint, and a hype one, all I see is salt in some of these "it wasn't that great post". Hype is the name of the game at E3. And how the heck is announcing a Kickstarter bad? The game is being made for PS4, how does "how it gets funded" change anything?

lol, i wonder what you think about MS's press conference... Halo got CoDified, i couldn't see Gears 4 (really... too dark), Cuphead still rocks though!!!

I might wear a Halo/Titanfall avatar, but that doesn't mean I thought the conference was the best.

Halo was painfully average, I glossed over Tomb Raider, and Gears didn't interest me. Only standouts from it was backwards compatibility, Fallout 4 mods, Rare's game, and Cuphead. Edit: And Minecraft Hololens. Perfectly honest, I forgot almost everything at that conference already besides what I mentioned.

Bethesda was the best to me, then I'd say MS and Sony are tied.

The day has arrived where I find myself agreeing with Welfare.

Ha.

My internet went out near the beginning, so I just saw Horizon and Hitman and wow. Horizons looks like the new IP I have been waiting for. The Hitman trailer was slick as hell, absolutely loved it, one of the best of E3. Wonderfully directed.

For me:

Horizon
No Man's Sky
Firewatch
Battlefront
Eitr
Mother Russia Bleeds
Crossing Souls
FF7: R

And that doesn't count the montage stuff: Journey PS4, Ratchet & Clank, etc.

Hell of a day. Add in Unravel, and Fallout 4 from last night and this has been a great E3 for me:D

Couldn't be happier with this conference, considering that Sony also had to please their partners. Amazing show.
Ditto for this. FF VII is a timed exclusive. Never really got into the Shenmue games. Probably most excited about The Last Guardian, but it's been "hyped" for so many years that it's going to have to be truly amazing to overcome it's checkered past.

With the 360 winning the last generation, for anyone who hasn't yet gotten a current gen console, backwards compatibility -- depending on how big the list grows to be -- is something that could sway a lot of buyers to MS.

But nice conferences by both Sony and MS.
Uh, it got 3rd last I checked.

If Sony was pandering to us, then I apparently really like being pandered to. Sign me up for another. Pander the shit out of us next year too. Same goes for you, MS/Nintendo. Just dump it all over me.

If Sony was pandering to us then liking those games is inherently a bad thing by definition.

And yes, I had the same reaction the whole conference.

Yep. I jumped out of my chair, touchdown danced and Predator "Dylan! you son of a bitch." super-dapped my cousin when Fallout 4 was confirmed for November, than had similar reactions for Last Guardian, FF7 and Shenmue 3. It was all OMFG WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!

I'm guessing you misunderstood me. I'm saying it was done poorly in this case. I'm not arguing about the morality of it. It's pretty obvious that companies have to pander to their audience, but in this case it was done so blatantly and obviously to disguise a lackluster lineup. They announced an HD remake and let us know that a game that was supposed to be out last generation is finally coming out this generation. Then like 90% of everything else was third party stuff.

I'm sorry I'm not blinded by nostalgia, but it was a genuinely disappointing conference.

Blinded by nostalgia for games that havent come out yet? Tell me more of this future you come from. I'm not a fan of all the stuff announced but referring to it as a "lacklustre lineup" when, personal opinion aside, it was wall to wall with some of the most in demand wishlist games out there smacks of what common online parlance would call "salt". Also perhaps stop suggesting that selling products with mass appeal is gratifying an immoral or distasteful desire i.e. perhaps stop incorrectly using pandering.

No Man's Sky had a slog of a boring demo, bragging bullshit that will never materialize (All these stars are solar systems, for serious guys!). I started reading my book at that point.

What are you TALKING about?

WHY would this not be in? Of all the nonsense people talk about No Man's Sky, this is the one that illustrates just how clearly people have no idea what they're talking about.

Giant universe generators like this aren't even unique to No Man's Sky, they've been around for ages. It's just far more visual in this version. There is NOTHING lofty about the claim they're making. It's actually the simplest part of their whole fucking thing.

Shenmu III is 50% funded. Is it a record how quickly it reached $1 million?

Yooka Laylee broke the record for fastest Kickstart to $1m just a month and half ago, now Shenmue 3 is going to do it again. Amazing. iirc Yooka Laylee took like 6 hours to reach $1m.

Honestly, though, it was pretty brilliant of them to make up for the (relatively speaking) weak 2015 lineup by promising that ALL OF OUR WILDEST DREAMS WILL COME TRUE in 2016/2017. They've pretty much won this E3 on that alone.

Still disappointed that they didn't show anything of Persona 5, though. If it actually is coming in 2015 still then it would make sense for them to at least show something of it, considering it's exclusive to Playstation.
