You do realize we're talking about games journalism right? I don't know how to break this to you but Jeff Gerstmann is not Walter Kronkite.
He'd never portray himself as such either but after 6+ years of listening to the man I know Jeff sure as fuck always gives his honest, personal opinion. Always. Despite whatever ulterior motives you have dreamed up that you think he has.

GB singled it out a bunch. I thought it had their biggest, universal positive reaction of anything shown today.
GB did, I'm talking about this forum and everywhere else basically. It's not surprising, just a bummer.

I didn't actually think Horizon looked super interesting. I hope to be proven wrong though
That's fine, I don't expect everyone to get hyped about the things I get hyped about LIKE SOME LUNATICS.

When a grown ass man says "Alright, I'm a professional." and then immediately follows it up by screaming like a teenage girl watching Paul McCartney walk off a plane at the height of Beatlemania, it's hard to take that person seriously as a professional.

If he seriously wants to be considered one, he should act like one. If he wants to look like some hyped Youtube dude, he can be, that's cool, but don't come around pretending like you have any integrity.

He's the professional whose videos start off with this

Calling out his "integrity" for expressing excitement at an announcement seems stupid

I love Brad, and I love Giantbomb, but yeah, that was the legit dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.

The whole importance of first party is so weird to me when it's been proven how ultimately...unnecessary isn't the right word, but it doesn't really change all that much. Will Microsoft benefit in any way of having Tomb Raider this holiday, when it releases in the same death zone of Battlefront, Fallout 4 and Call of Duty? Does Sony really have a whole lot to gain by releasing Uncharted this year when there's SO MUCH coming out this holiday?

It seems like people still harken back to the 16/64 bit days when third party stuff was more complementary and positioned around the next big Mario or Zelda title, when nowadays the situations seem reversed. Yeah Halo is huge but Star Wars and Call of Duty are bigger. Not at all surprised to see first party stuff scaled back and re-positioned in the calendar year with this in mind.

No, but he's he's damn well trying to make it that serious, and it deserves to be. For all of the jokes and dumb bullshit GB does, they also are possibly the most level headed and professional people when it comes down to breaking down the video game industry. Gerstmann in particular. And the fact that you and a bunch of other people want to dilute it down to screaming like a bunch of children at every announcement is part of the problem. That's not their fucking job, and any journalist acting that way are shitty at their job.

Video game journalism isn't destined to be shit, it's shit because people like you are more worried about seeing people popping off with hype instead of watching some people break it down and bring it down to Earth.

Then he damn well shouldn't be calling himself a professional. It's great if he wants to act that way, and it's great that he calls himself out for what he is. But that's not what games journalism should be. That blurry ass line between what a professional video game journalist is, and what some screaming Youtube personality is is a huge reason video game journalism is as shit as it is. People expect the people actually trying to break down the industry professionally to act the same as a dude who isn't supposed to be taken seriously in the first place.

I think they made some valid points, many of which I agree with, some of which I disagree with. I also think they said some pretty stupid shit that doesn't make any sense beyond their little reality bubble. I like watching GB, but they're not infallible. Brad is not the fucking pope.

And yes, they are cynical. Sorry. But I say this as a cynic. You can argue the merits of that world view, but you can't really deny that it's a pretty key part of the site. GB is all about "I dunno..." and then getting really excited about the stupid shit that actually delivers.

I don't think it's really that. It's more that it felt like some cheap YouTube reaction for attention. It's like the guy wanted to be in a reaction gif or something.

Even the other people in the room were giving him uncomfortable looks.

Yep. Horizon received a bunch of positivity from them. Jeff had a few reservations about it being Guerilla Games, which I think is completely fair, since Killzone Shadow Fall was awful.

It was a launch game, every bit as "awful" as Forza 5 if that is the hyperbole.

It was decent for a launch game.

And maybe Adventure RPGs are right up their ally. Take sleek KZ action in a rich world does seem promising.

Guerrilla have a history of making games that look cool when demoed but play like garbage.

Goodness.

And that's fine! That's completely fine, but that's not Giant Bomb.

That's fine if he's just arguing from the perspective of someone who owns every console, or a hardcore gamer who buys everything, but when he says that Sony needs to start looking in their rearview mirror at Steam and $800 PCs he's sort or throwing that out the window and making a commentary on the market as a whole.

What ulterior motive? I'm just saying the guy is a torrential downpour of negativity and has been for years during this time of the year. I'm not sure being "professional" is an excuse.

And that's fine! That's completely fine, but that's not Giant Bomb.

I mean Brad plays all multiplats on a console despite having a good-but-out-of-date PC and the means to have a great gaming PC if he wanted. I really don't know where he was coming from in the post Sony segment.

The conversation currently going on in the thread is gross. On both ends really. :/

Anyone have a link to some form of archive of the Sony conference? I was at the theater, I wanna listen to the giant bomb commentary.

Sorry, can't hate on Bosman and Huber. They've been betting against each other on Last Guardian vs Shenmue on E3 for many years. You need to know the lore behind their reaction :p

I don't think anything Sony announced would have swayed them. Jeff stated on multiple occasions that he didn't care for Sony's first party.

Jeff & Brad come from the angle that they own capable PCs and they need reasons to own a PS4. Sony played it well, they know they're in the lead and they've played the right cards to ensure prospective buyers will consider PlayStation 4 first.

I wonder when Jeff & Brad realize that Sony and Microsoft's console divisions aren't trying to win over PC gamers. They never did before and I don't see why they would change now. They're in the business of trying to win over the people who are going to spend $400 USD on a console. Period.

Well, there are a lot of people who only have a PS4. Or maybe a XB1. People who will never justify 600+ for a PC to game on. And those people will be fine playing every other third party game.

People who don't justify 600+ for a PC when the games are half the price and they don't need to pay for online play aren't worth being concerned about.

lmao @ saying a dude has no integrity because he got excited for Shenmue 3.

Y'all are too much

People who don't justify 600+ for a PC when the games are half the price and they don't need to pay for online play aren't worth being concerned about.

like what? lmao, who says shit like this

To be fair, if Valve was actually laser focused instead of Gabe and co just trying stuff out and hope some of it works out, they would probably be a far bigger threat than Microsoft at this point.

But yeah their comments do seem like they're coming from people who have access to every console and PC.

Why you all angry about what someone said about your favorite conference? Seems a lot of folks feel some sort of way in here.

I watch these videos with them to laugh and cringe at how awful these things are.

I don't watch Giant Bomb when I want to be excited about videogames.

Ya'll people should learn by now if you're still getting mad about them.

this should be the link

it's still in livestream mode for some reason but yt archives instantly

just can't watch it quite yet if you're in germany, otherwise have fun! (oh, also it should still be in their site player, if you need an alternative - that one crashed a couple times, though)

It's interesting that Brad takes this stance because unless I'm wrong, he has consistently played the PS4 version of several third party games for no reason other than convenience even when he has other options.

Pretty much how I feel. Bloodborne came out at the perfect time. Anything to avoid that deluge of 3rd party stuff before the holidays is smart. Until Dawn hits in August. Uncharted collection in October.

Could they have saved all of those and dumped in November? Sure, but it really doesn't make much sense when you have to compete with the Call of Dutys and Battlefronts.

It wasn't Bossman that overreacted. It was the idiot that was sitting next to him. He took it way too far and you could tell the others felt uncomfortable.

Anyone that does that kind of stuff for attention deserves to be shat on.

i'm glad god gave you the gift of deducing who is fishing for attention on purpose and i'm glad he gave you a good colon to shit on people

who's the katie couric of video games
