THEY ARE COMING BACK.
AT LAST THE PROMISE HAS BEEN MADE.

damn chills.

It'll probably go down as one of the best conferences of all time, but very little for me. Can't believe I'm actually saying it. But I think people set themselves up for disappointment getting excited for anything from modern Square Enix. And Nomura working on it bette mean KH3 is fucking done or near to being done.

Last Guardian looks cool.

"It looks too janky! What's up with the bloom?!! 2007 called!"

"Why is it a Kickstarter?! Will they never make games we want anymore without taking our money first??"

"I bet it's all a cynical cash grab they JUST started working on after the PC port backlash! I bet it won't come out, just like FF Versus XIII!"

Thanks, SonyGAF, for showing this Nintendo fan how entitled, never-satisfied bullshit isn't just limited to Nintendo fans.

who says those are sony fans complaining? Only real bitching I saw were from some pretty hardcore Nintendo fans on twitter.

But let's not turn this into console war bs

I might wear a Halo/Titanfall avatar, but that doesn't mean I thought the conference was the best.

Halo was painfully average, I glossed over Tomb Raider, and Gears didn't interest me. Only standouts from it was backwards compatibility, Fallout 4 mods, Rare's game, and Cuphead. Edit: And Minecraft Hololens. Perfectly honest, I forgot almost everything at that conference already besides what I mentioned.

Bethesda was the best to me, then I'd say MS and Sony are tied.

Ha.

Fair enough!

Anyone else worried that one of these games will fall back into the darkness again and won't show up for an update at the next E3?
Nope. Japan had a lot of issues last gen that no longer exist or are not nearly as bad.

This gen isn't even a huge step up from last, much more a refinement, and is IMO, the true HD generation. Tons of games will get made for these platforms as development costs rise. Sony and MS will want these consoles to be around as long as possible.

What is this shit.

The press conference is just that, a press conference.

Are we judging conferences on console-exclusive same-year-released games?

Come on now.

All the conferences all were good to great, anyone saying otherwise is foolish.

--

When you look past exclusivity, platform championing, and "possible downgrade" worries, it is one of the best times to be a gamer ever. Some of the stuff mentioned in this E3 conference was the stuff of dreams for literal decades.

I don't know what's worse;

People acting surprised about the fact that a lot of people are extremely excited that three long-awaited (and that's an understatement) games were shown/announced.

Or that some people can't comprehend that others aren't exactly hyped about games that are potentially (and likely) 2+ years away, especially if they don't have the same nostalgia of said games that others have.

Oh well. It wouldn't be an E3 thread without a bunch of children spouting "SALTY" or pretending to fall asleep during conferences.

Why are people salty? We just got the games we've been waiting years for. How is this a bad thing?

I think because there is no timeline for release. Shenmue 3 says maybe Dec. 2017. Nothing on the FF7 remake. And TLG is coming out in "2016". Nothing for NMS release.

I just think some people feel like Sony threw out a bunch of far out games that may or may not appear. These games have been vaporware before and we are here again with release dates over a year and a half out.

Now that GAF is functioning again, my thoughts on a Sony conference with huge ups and downs:

"That's an applause line”? "Games are the cultural zeitgeist”? "Full stop”? I have to admit, I thought I was in for a complete groaner from start to finish.

Then finally, The Last Guardian, with a release year, followed by Shuhei Yoshida saying "Fumito Ueda is great, don't believe what you hear about how we drove him to quit. Please don't leave us, Ueda! PLEASE?!” It just felt desperate giving him kudos now after everything that’s happened.

Then on to Horizon. It looks good, but it also looks like the vertical slice du jour of Sony’s conference. I will wait that one out.

Then Hitman with no gameplay, gab gab gab, digital release, blah blah blah, exclusive beta/DLC.

Street Fighter V comes on very VERY briefly and, oh BTW, another exclusive public beta. Public betas appear to be the new exclusive DLC at Sony’s conference.

No Man's Sky had a slog of a boring demo, bragging bullshit that will never materialize (All these stars are solar systems, for serious guys!). I started reading my book at that point.

Media Molecule comes on and starts philosophizing garbage, then shows us what appears to be user created “experiences”. Basically, not a game, but Mario Paint for the artsy poseur in the gaming crowd.

Destiny expansion... yawn. Another Ass Creed… yawn. Final Fantasy Chibi game because… yeah sure why not?

And then… Final Fantasy 7 remake. I’m of 3 different minds about this.
First, I am glad it exists just so people can shut the fuck up about it for the next 5 years before they start asking for it to be remade yet again.
Second, I’m glad that the remake will expose the younger generations to just how truly forgettable this game is without that wide-eyed nostalgia.
And third, I can’t believe they would announce something that cannibalizes FFXV. But then again, I don’t recall them giving a release date, which should worry people, since Square Enix isn’t great on their track record with games. If we don’t get firm release dates for KH3 and FFXV tomorrow, we should be concerned.

And then they followed it up with Shenmue III…. Kickstarter. It was just such a terrible contradiction. “We’re so excited to announce this game, but not excited enough to fucking fund it. Do it yourselves, gamers, we can’t be assed.” It’s just a terrible message when you actually break it down. It was literally just to take credit for something they aren’t even truly involved in, which is just stupid.
But at the end of it, at least we now have the "etherware trifecta" out of the way so people can stop fucking droning on about them. But being excited for a Kickstarter is like freaking out N64 Kid style before you’ve unwrapped your Christmas present.

And it looks like exclusive DLC is still a thing, thanks to Batman Arkham Knight. I started reading my book again.

And then Morpheus happened, right? Blink and you missed it, seriously. I’m guessing they didn’t want to sour their presser with bad news that it’s still not affordable to own. Save that for next year, I guess.

Blah blah Spotify blah blah PS Vue blah blah blah.

And now I guess it’s Sony’s turn to give CoD fans their annual handjob with Black Ops 3! I was able to still read my book, go have a whole cigarette and make a cocktail on the rocks from the kitchen and it still wasn't done when I got back. More DLC exclusive and exclusive beta nonsense to top off that shit sundae.

Then the video wrap-up. "OH YEAH, we need to show off Vita! Give it 10 seconds!!” Sony couldn’t make it clearer that their handheld aspirations are permanently dead.

A lot of time given to Disney Infinity and Star Wars. I still haven’t put my book down.

And lastly, a delayed boot up of Uncharted 4: Nathan Drake Standing Still. I really felt bad for whoever fucked that up so badly.

So aside from the etherware trifecta, there was nothing really amazing to report, and some of that is shit Sony can’t even take credit for but are going to try to anyways, which rubs me the absolute wrong way, and the rest of the conference was just a bore otherwise.

But still, those 3 games alone do put them above Microsoft this year.

Only 2 more of these conferences to go, let's see what other big guns are left to fire. But Sony is clearly leading the mindshare pack so far on the good graces of others.

Pretty much agree with all this.

Tough call between Bethesda and Sony, probably have to give it to Sony for pure shock factor and knocking 3 games off everyone's bucket list. Fallout 4 is still probably the single most impressive thing I've seen so far though.

So last year Sony brought us Grim Fandango and Yakuza 5 and this year TLG, FFVIIR and Shenmue III.

There is no way they can one up themselves after that.

UC4 alone destroyed them. But UC4 + unexpected Horizon gameplay? A slaughter.

With each Killzone getting progressive worse to play - Shadow Fall is still the worst AAA game I've played in recent years - I was very dubious about their rumoured dino-mech game.

Graphics and overly mouthy protagonist aside, the game itself looked solid. Fast pasted. Twitchy. No QTE attacks or pointless animation flourish. Just punchy combat against incredible enemies. If the game had just been a trailer, I'd still be on the fence, but the gameplay demo sold me 100%.

Can't believe there are people downplaying FF7R and Shenmue3. It doesn't matter if you like these games or not. Heck, it doesn't matter if you have never even played them.

As a person who plays video games, there is no way you can't understand how big it is to get the two of them in one conference.

Is that really any different than MS' show? I feel like that's pretty much the norm for E3 - show the next year's releases.

Wtf are you talking about? It was merely intended as a measure of how fucking impossible it is to try and have a rational discussion right now, which certainly seems to be a pretty accurate assessment.

Try taking 30 seconds to look at someone's post history before you accuse them of being a console warrior.
By saying you can't have a rational discussion on Neogaf because it's like the home team winning the world series? If I concluded wrong from that statement, I'm sorry but it seemed like a straightforward analogy to me. No one mentioned console warrior except you, your post history is your business, no where does my post infer that you were one.

agreed, it's like people forgot all the game announced before E3 even started, or all the amazing stuff coming soon.

EDIT:

Actually, nvm. This is Square we are talking about. I can see why some are worried about it being far off. Okay. That makes sense. In my mind, I still think it's HUGE that they announced they are doing it. And that Sony got to say it at their Conference as well as have it on their system first. But I can see why some would worry, given Square's history. Okay, fair enough.

Not sure I buy into the narrative that Sony were being sneaky though. But I get the concern.

Now that Sony is the fairy godmother of gaming dreams. Is it so crazy to imagine next E3 we will see Kojima unleashing a new "P.T" IP with his new Sony studio?

Konami would have to allow or sell the rights to Sony.

Which isn't too far fetched of an idea because Metal Gear Solid has always been seen as a Playstation series and P.T. Was already an exclusive demo to them.

The only problem is that Konami wants their game rights to make cheap cash ins for the games like gambling machines and whatnot.

Sony will become gods if they can accomplish this though.

I like how you cherry pick a couple of examples and ignore the rest of the conference. They gave gamers what they have been asking for people turn it around as cashing in on Pedigree of developers lMAO

Not denying that I'm in the minority here. But Shenmue and TLG were the "megatons" and they were honestly underwhelming to me. Horizons and NMS were the most interesting things in the conference, but they weren't enough to make it good.

MS gameplay showings were weak, people listing games from both keep forgetting horizon and UC4 looked better then anything MS showed, there there are the bombs Sony dropped.

Bombs? Nobody asked for TLG, FF7R, Shenmue 3. Sony's days are done.
I asked for those games btw

I'm not too interested in the 3 big games revealed today myself, but god damn if my hat's not off to Sony for pulling off *two* of the holy trifecta of most wished-for games. It was great hearing the crowd cheer & seeing people get excited.

I honestly don't know how to react to all these great announcements and games. With my wallet, I guess but holy shit, Sony knocked it out if the park.

Sony takes it. Holy shit, that was amazing!!! Everything that could've happened did. This was the best E3 conference I've seen in a long while. FF7 Remake and The Last Guardian for 2016; I'm so happy :)

I thought that Square Enix's mind set was to release one console Final Fantasy a year, effectively annualizeing the series as a whole.

Following that logic I can see FF7R being a 2017 game while saving FFXVI for 2018.

Gaf Appeal: 9.5/10.

Mass market appeal: 7/10.

Incredible conference for long-time Sony and JRPG fans, though can't help but feel as though many of the today's bombs will go over the average gamer's head unfortunately. Looking at forums aside from GAF, conference already seems pretty divisive. Who knows though. Uncharted looked incredible, Horizon was fresh, and they have Black Ops and Battlefront bolstering PS4's already crazy momentum. Damn I wish there was a price drop though :'(
