Dear Sony

You really don't think they have the talent? They do. I don't know on what type budget Helldivers 2 got but it's clearly not AAA.

At least I hope they are getting those fancy offices like Housemarque.

Seems to me they lack vision more than talent.

Some of the choices of games being pushed out have been baffling to say the least😐

Talent exists, but the people making choices can't harness it, one reason being that game funding is still tied to dubious standards. I'm betting a lot of the people doing the work to make these games actually have some vision of what they could accomplish if not spinning their wheels just to collect a paycheck.

Sink even more live-service money on an already over-exposed IP that's never had mainstream appeal?

I mean, talent or experience to make a game like Helldivers or Space Marine. Bungie was acquired for that purpose but they failed. Housemarquee are experts in fast paced action, but only SP. They might pull it off but the learning curve would be steep and the studio should increase its headcount, too. It might be possible, but not easy at all.

If I had to choose, I'd pick the return of Resistance with SP and MP mode, third person, with AA budget and scope. However, current Insomniac is not a good fit for this kind of PS3-era gritty game.

Good point on MLB and I agree. Agree with Helldivers and Tokon as well and that's exactly the strategy I was recommending. 3rd party deals instead of internal studios wasting their energy doing things that are outside their strengths.
Helldivers and Tokon are first party games because they are published by themselves, the platform holder. And beyond their publishing side, even if their lead dev studio is an external team, most of the developers who work on them -like in any other first party game- are from internal Sony support teams, or from external outsourcing firms but still managed by XDEV, which is PS Studio's external development team. Sony also funds these first party games, in case of Helldivers 2 was originally supposed to be released in 2019 after 3 years of development, but Sony allowed them to have a 5 years long delay on top of that to improve, expand and fix it (something paid by Hermen).

3rd party games are those not published by the platform holder, even if can get some money from it due to some exclusivity or marketing deal (which only covers a small portion of the budget). Which in case of PS, means published by anybody not owned by Sony, as could be Square Enix or Capcom.

Sony's GaaS are being made mostly by external teams in most cases specialized and very successful on GaaS (3 of them ended acquired), by internal teams who already worked in GaaS or MP games, or new MP/GaaS teams they set in existing studios hiring GaaS experts. That GaaS investment was made on top of the already existing one for non-GaaS games, which also got increased (even if less).

I mean, talent or experience to make a game like Helldivers or Space Marine. Bungie was acquired for that purpose but they failed.
Bungie didn't fail, Sony first party games make now around twice the revenue they did before the GaaS push, and 40% of it in the last quarter came from GaaS, even if they didn't have any GaaS game release there and instead had the Death Stranding 2 release.

Plus this year they release Destiny Rising and Marathon, plus gummy bears will release pretty likely in a year or two.
