SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Shenmue is a big reason why I ever got interested in anything Japanese. This has been a part of my while e adult life and to see it announced like it was brings a literal tear to my eye.

I've been stuck at this screen for over 10 years. I had to import this game from the UK when it launched because Sega America wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I preorderd it on the original Xbox with hopes a third game would come. Many E3s have passed and many Shenmue fans dreams have been repeatedly crushed by false rumors and fan petitons.

Well that's all over now that the kickstarter arrived. Shenmue fans are dedicated and I am one of them. I want to get off this decade long cliffhanger. I'll have to buy a PS4 now just to have all the versions. I need a physical copy! This game will be mine and I will avenge my father!

clearly the interest has not died! This should have been obvious. I'm worried this sets a precedent to exploit nostalgia even more. FF7 remake? Yeah ok, they're making it. The way they announced Shenmue 3 makes it feel like companies can artificially hold a game hostage.
 
It's weird how some people think Sony isn't going to put some funds in this. I doubt 2mil is enough to cover the game. This can show the numbers guys that they can back it due to fan support being there.
 
I honestly backed $100 because it allows you to choose a digital version. I don't need another DVD case in my apartment.

Getting my name in the credits is a fantastic bonus, too!

The demo is the reason I backed at $100. No way I'm not playing this as soon as humanly possible.

Sony funds new games left and right without knowing if they're gonna do well or not. It's frigging ShenMue and Yu is asking for 2 mil. Really? Did it need a KS campaign?

Call me old fashioned but I feel kinda cheated. Sonys asking for my money to brag about an exclusive game down the road.. Nah.

2 million is pocket change and I'm sure ShenMue would recover that on launch day. At 30 bucks That's less than 100.000 copies. I'm sure ShenMue would move that number of copies.
 
My only remaining concern is if they'll be able to do it right after all this time away.

But that team looks like the right team. A lot of familiar faces listed on that KS page...

Sega have no problems. They would have to have had a say for the name to be used, even highlighted in the copyright during the video. Also Sega will green light HD versions of 1 and 2 as soon as the kickstarter proves it's viability. Which it already has done with aplomb

He never deserved that weight on his shoulders. A gaming hitchcock. He deserves to finish his magnum opus.
 
The thing is if Sony is the real backer, why is there a PC version too? Why not keep the full exclusivity if they are gonna spend maybe 30 million on this?
 
We finally did it, guys, our long wait has been rewarded. To think they called us crazy for believing Shenmue would happen.

I will gladly pledge for this.

and people gathered for both really excited.

then shenmue iii and i jumped up "SHENMUE THREE!!!" and no one cared.

it was great.

Those same number people are probably looking at the pace of the campaign earnings very carefully.

This could actually be some big experiment in game funding. See with what precision you can fund a project and how much it will sell based on a 31-day crowdfunding campaign.

They can try to look at the rate of earning, as well as the final tally and the number of backers, and they can tell how much to spend on the project vs. the number of additional people who will purchase it.

This is history in more ways than one.

It's not like Yu gets nothing out of announcing the Kickstarter at Sony's conference. That's some great publicity. Plus the crowd reaction might get people googling Shenmue that never really looked into it before.
