Brad utter dismissal was fucking lunacy to the point that Dan Ryckert aka the guy who isn't much of a fan of jrpgs was the one voice of reason (even if its somewhat idealistic) LOL.
I must have missed this. Summation please?

Have they said when their Sony conference archive will go up? I'm planning on watching the Sony conference within the next 30 minutes (I've managed to stay spoiler free up to this point), and would love to watch their commentary, but it doesn't seem to be on the site yet.
what in the hell is going on in here
I don't want to but I'll end up with all three of them.
You are my new waifu <3
I went back and watched the FF announcement on the GB stream and it really is odd how Brad (and to a lesser extent Alex) seem genuinely angry that they are remaking the game.

Look man, I think the problem was that you watched for four minutes of a two hour conference + post show, and are willing to make a judgement on their whole coverage based on it. That's pretty unfair. There were plenty of positive things said all day today and last night, and they had a difference of opinion plenty of times. They might not be jumping around with hype like some other places, but it's not like they were sour on everything they saw today. To me, it shows that people are using "professional" to defend perpetual negativity in which a room full of 6-8 people seem to all be down on the same thing at nearly all times. How does that even happen? You get that many people in a room and usually there's difference in opinions.
But that's just my opinion. Like I was saying, I watched about 4 minutes and changed to something else like people here have suggested doing. I'm only responding back now because a lot of people responded to my post. If you just wanna see a bunch of guys who have seen it all before and are not phased by any of it, then more power to you. I guess I'm still a sucker for the hype once every couple E3s.
there's some sort of irony in how people coming here to complain about GB's alleged negativity and cynicism turned this thread into something altogether more negative than any of the streams were.
Brad wasn't impressed, afterwards he summed it up as a "huge waste of resources."
None of them strike me as the Final Fantasy or Shenmue loving crowd.
They are not
Jeff hates games
Brad only into DOTA
Dan into Nintendo
Vinny into carpentry
Alex is being depressed
Austin.......well he is awesome

I don't know how anyone can take that as an objective statement. That game will literally print money on release. They could spend $100 million in resources on this thing and it would still be worth it for them.
Doesn't work for me
Fulfilling impossible dreams should be rewarded.
here's my question
how much dlc can they cram in there

right let's turn this into a childish "who's worse" pissing match.pretty sure the giantbomb fan's reaction to the gt gif is far worse

I feel like there's a difference between a laid, back weekly show where you play old things and how you act while covering a conference. Giantbomb is certainly one of the sillier gaming sites but there's a time for professionalism and they realize that.pretty sure the giantbomb fan's reaction to the gt gif is far worse

But like you said, maybe you just want different coverage from E3. That's fine, I was right in the stream threads all day watching people get excited at shit and getting excited at times with them. But afterwards I like to come to GB and watch them be the levelers who take emotion out of things and try and break it down from there. Neither way is wrong, but watching a bunch of people come in here complaining that the GB guys aren't acting like everyone else is pretty irritating when GB is one of the only sites where I can get coverage like this in the first place.

I just realized The Witness was a no show. I was anticipating a longer demo and a release date.
Also I disagree with Brad. FF7RE is a fucking HOMERUN for Square Enix and Sony. If that ACTUALLY comes out, it's gonna be another global big deal the same way it was back then. I wonder if it's the game that wins back Japan.
Lightning skin for Cloud
As someone that loved FF7 when it came out, why would I want it again over a full-fledged, new Final Fantasy?
We've already played through that experience. But, I haven't bought a single remaster, so maybe I'm just not the type of person that is being pandered to. If people want to buy the same game again, more power to them, but as someone that adored FF 7-10, this makes me actively dislike Square's direction.
But, seeing the positive praise and how much it will likely sell, it's no wonder they are doing it. Especially with how lack-luster the last few games in the series have been. Why try to build a new experience when you can take a smaller workload and probably see a bigger profit margin?
we'll see, I guess. depends if they're still fighting on a "hearts and minds" platform or if they plan to turn a profit, because the latter...
I mean, shit, that game is going to be expensive to remake. and I know this is kind of a special case, but jrpgs aren't typically barn burners sales-wise.
Dress up Cloud? Buy Golden Saucer currency with real currency?

I just don't get why anyone would want to watch adults jump around like children during marketing spiels *shrug* Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
I thought you were talking about the GT stream?i still don't see where i asked for them to jump around but ok
This makes me really miss the old 1up E3 days. Theres always the right amount of joy/hype as well as concern and cynicism. Giantbomb is just depressing to watch. Why would I want to watch a bunch of guys looking bored and shitting on everything in a medium that I love?
Brad wasn't impressed, afterwards he summed it up as a "huge waste of resources."
I mean, people do want it, and Sony is finally giving it to them, as some of GB said(Jeff included). I'm sure it will do fine.
Skip summon animations for $4.99
man if you've got to make an effort to be excited i suspect you're probably just not excited over the thing in question
I'm pretty sure he is viewing it as someone who had his fill of FF7 18 years ago and would rather that money be allocated to new projects. Which is completely reasonable.I don't know how anyone can take that as an objective statement. That game will literally print money on release. They could spend $100 million in resources on this thing and it would still be worth it for them.

They do get excited about games. Please just stop.Which brings us back to the part where it strikes me like some of them act as though they are prisoners in their careers. How do you go years and years without being excited over the medium you've chosen to dedicate your career to? It defies logic.
How were they depressing? Almost every game got either a "looks great", "looks interesting", or so on and so forth. The one game that I thought had an odd reception was FF7 and that was only Brad being overwhelmingly negative without actually explaining why he thought a remake of one of the most popular games of all time was a waste. This makes me really miss the old 1up E3 days. Theres always the right amount of joy/hype as well as concern and cynicism. Giantbomb is just depressing to watch. Why would I want to watch a bunch of guys looking bored and shitting on everything in a medium that I love? Thats like only watching movies with people who always just points out flaws in movies and tells everyone how bad it is and how much they hate it. I don't need GT level reactions but some joy every now and then would be nice.
