oh god i wonder what games will be in the arcade - Afterburner Climax? OutRun Arcade? FUUUU

shit yes, i need more of this classic Shaw Bros shit

we're drinkin and petting stray cats over here in your honor bro!

After burner Climax as an Arcade in Shenmue would be off the hook!! However, it will no doubt be done by Yu Suzuki touched game, so the game to make everyone so absolutely ape-shit will be Virtua Racing, G-LOC, F355 Challenge and more and with all multiplayer online!

Planet Harriers will be INSANE though! INSANE!!!

Please keep in mind that things will slow down after a few days and then pick up rapidly again in the last days of the campaign. :D

Hopefully all the stretch goals get hit.

So much photoshop potential...

If SEGA was happy enough to give Yu the IP I doubt they would have any issue with Sonic and Phantasy Star capsules in this game. Free marketing and all that, besides he's still a highly regarded figure at SEGA and still holds a management position.

My only worry is having some of the arcade games playable haha.

Goodbye forever Shenmue GAF.

Despite all my posts, I've never actually even played even a second of a Shenmue game.

My work is done.

Sayonara~

They didn't give him the IP. They still own Shenmue.

The problem with a 1/2 remaster, guys, is that it will deflate hype. People will go like "Wait, THIS is Shenmue? Yuck" and of course don't expect them to sell on fans alone, because the lack of them is why there wasn't a S3 before.

The wisest move is to release S3 with tons of backstory, and make it look (and play somewhat) mainstream, like Sleeping Dogs or Yakuza.

If Yu Suzuki would have never gotten the chance to finish this, Shenmue's failure would have been his legacy. No matter how much Sega fans like me would have remembered how outstanding his career was, he would have forever been known for not finishing his greatest work.

I am so happy that Yu Suzuki gets to rewrite his legacy.
More dust in my eyes.

Were is that coming from?

Oh and hate to be that guy and all but...

We're not getting Planet Harriers or Afterburner Climax in a 1988-1989 era arcade.
Might want to reel that in just a bit.

There's no way this could have some sort of spillover effect and convince Sega to bring over all the Yakuza games (i.e., Kenzan and Ishin) that haven't come out yet, using Kickstarter to gauge interest?

Well.. just pledged $310, no regrets. (It includes the physical soundtrack, which I was going to get anyway and it's over $100 used in itself, if I'm not mistaken.)

I wish my old Geocities Shenmue fan site was still around. Shit was dope. It had snow falling all over the screen and everything.

Really hope this is the case. $2 million is nothing. Didn't the original cost like $70 million back in the fucking 90s?

Let's hope he put a new stretch goal or, even better, SONY's funding to be massive.

Saying that though, the original game was $70MM because it was the investment for two games.

I don't like this. Kickstarter was not meant for companies like Sony.

Kickstarter is there for the devs to listen to their fans. If a huge amount of people ask for X1 and Wii U version, they should take that into consideration with a stretch goal but if Sony is bankrolling them after fans front them as much as they they can squeeze out of us then what's the point of kickstarting this?

I don't wven know what to say. I'm waking up to these announcements and my god when the rumours are true it all comes at once.

It's as if Sony is trying to make every gaming forum completely melt forever with this stuff. This is just surreal.

Yeah, I keep seeing all these "ZOMG HD REMAKE YEAH" posts and I'm like...those games were so incredible in their time, but I never want to go back to them. I want those memories to be perfect as they are, because even at the time I knew that there were a lot of flaws in the games that I was willing to look past because of how revolutionary the world and its commitment to detail and tone were. Now that almost everything it did right has been absorbed as part of the general game design vocabulary, I think a lot of people would look at those games and not quite get it. I know because even at the time, that was true of a lot of people.

Isn't the physical soundtrack for Shenmue III and not I/II?

In any case, it's not a bad deal. That signed illustration is worth the price alone. I know I'm tempted to upgrade my pledge. >_<

Edit: Wow, I just read that it's indeed a soundtrack of the original release. Great stuff.
